  1. Very good point Aiyen. I had a feeling it had something to do with not allowing skyrim access when it requests it, and they can not be good for a game like this and then throw a couple hundred mods at it. This theory that is sounding more like a law, winds up changing things for me. The settings I have set enboost to would probably deserve a new look over. As far as Diskeeper being good, to be honest it really really really is that good of a defragging program. It not only takes away some of the manual time needed to keep up with hdd defragmenting, by intelligently writing them to places on the disk that make sense and thus eliminates huge chunks of fragmenting before they happen. And it really is resource friendly. Idk, I have used it for a long time and have never run into a situation like this, but it all makes sense. So, I'll just have to make sure to shut it off when I play, no big deal. I also use another defragmenting program alongside diskeeper, piriforms defraggler. I have a paid license of it, but it is also a free utility, and very good imo for being free. Anyway, I digress. So to be safe just shut it off. Thanks for your inputs Doubleyou and Aiyen, I appreciate it.
  2. So, I use Diskeeper 12. Have for like...ever. Never really thought much about it's background service and what the intelliwrite function could be doing when gaming, never really had a reason to. But earlier this morning, after giving up practically, on why for the love of talos is skyrim ctd'ing at phantom and random moments without any noticeable cause, I have studied the papyrus log over and over for a couple of days to see really nothing that could justify it and I have concluded it to not be skyrim's fault. I have two PC's in the house, mine and the wifey's. Her computer is retarded, tis no joke, it's like 8 years old and still kicking, but for some stupid reason I could never get diskeeper to install right on her pc, and to be honest I gave up easily cause I hate that toaster. So, anywho, her pc no diskeeper, mine yes. So I stole her pc and setup skyrim on it to totally mirror mine, literally just copied and pasted everything I could over the network... yeah that was... slow. So, I then finally started playing on her pc, doing everything I normally do. I thought for sure her pc was just gonna straight puke all over me after a min or two of playing, mostly cause her's is so old and I really didn't think it could handle it. BIG F'in SURPRISE when it didn't, and then when I went an hour into the game, I started trying to FORCE it to crash, it was really pissing me off at this point. I was just like wtf???? how in the world could her pc be slapping mine in the face??!!!!?? SO....three hours went by, and I gave up, settled for just concluding that her pc was retarded and that is why it did what it did, and thats my story and I WAS sticking to it. Until 2 hours ago..... Also to note, that her pc did have a substantially poorer frame rate (naturally) it averaged about 32 with a low of 19 and a high of 38...yuck! I couldn't let it go.... I had to know, HAD TOO! PERIOD. So, I started thinking about ANYTHING I could that could possibly hinder the game, outside of the game. I looked and made sure my anti-virus and malware were actually shut off, no virus', no hard drive errors, no strange processes or memory leaks, etc etc. Till I got to looking over the services that were running and I gave diskeeper service a second thought, and wondered could it be? And I thought, well it does do all kinds of intelligent background procedures at times, and some are always, like intelliwrite. So I said fudge it, I'll just shut it off and see. My initial thought was that I would see some form of negative performance, because of the I-FAAST feature, that boosts file performance. Well, I was wrong, no negative, in fact, it was positive, skyrim loaded up 43 seconds faster (I timed it, several times). A noticeable amount of the stutter I would get while trying to move or look around right after loading (clicking on a door and thus loading a new cell), was gone, not all, but enough. And... no phantom ctd, idk if it's just coincidence or it really helped, I plan on doing more testing with it before I call it. But just thought I would share this and ask, if anyone else uses diskeeper and whether they know enough about it to know if it is linked or not? Any thoughts are welcome. I plan on posting back after enough deliberation on my part with my conclusion. Regards, Slink
  3. Is that something on my end? Or is there nothing that can be done for it, in regards to getting the message to go away?
  4. LOOT has been claiming that EnhancedLightsandFX.esp has 12 ITM records. However, no matter how many times I run it through TES5Edit, it comes back as being clean, it removes nothing. Saw that CuttingRoomFloor.esp was labeled today has having ITM's, I think it removed 4, and LOOT shows it as being clean now. I am using the latest version of TES5Edit, 3.0.32EXP. Anyone know what the scoop is with that ELFX plugin?
  5. Nice vid, good shots of the spiders. And yep, I don't mind my ruins looking a little less ruined :) within reason of course, lol.
  6. Tried it, and I to am enjoying this mod and some of its functions, I think I'll keep this around for awhile. That realistic unequip, I agree is really nice for switching from a bow to my sword and shield on the fly. Nice find btw. I am happy with the function provided in realist unequip overhaul, but seeing how it is totally modular, I think I might deactivate it just so I can see how this pans out. Thanks for the responses all, been really helpful.
  7. This mod is looking really nice! Well done, your attention to detail is really good. Can't wait to see your final product. The idea of making treasure hunting for books, is a really neat idea.
  8. I have used these settings for about 2 weeks straight and have considerably improved gameplay in regards to what most people recommend. [MEMORY]ExpandSystemMemoryX64=trueReduceSystemMemoryUsage=falseDisableDriverMemoryManager=falseDisablePreloadToVRAM=falseEnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=falseReservedMemorySizeMb=2147VideoMemorySizeMb=8192EnableCompression=falseAutodetectVideoMemorySize=false I also run with occlusion culling on to use less vram. Compression is supposed do something similar to what occlusion does from what I have read on enbdev, but enabling it always causes me "pop-in" stutter at cell borders. Now I have been reading lately that 1024 is the max for the reserved setting, and all I know is, that if you are running with graphics on lime me cause I have an enb preset. Then if you go into the in-game enb setting menu "shift+enter", that menu will only allow you to set it at 1024, and if you have it set higher than that and go into that menu it will force it to 1024. But I have it set at 2147, which is my EXACT vram count, because it is my understanding that this is telling my card to reserve this x amount of vram. Boris stated once somewhere that the formula that has already been mentioned, along with saying that if you have say a card that has 512 of vram, and set your videomemory and reservedmemory to both 512 that it would be the optimal solution because you are thus forcing the game to use only your vram, which using as much of vram as possible as we all know is the optimal idea. But I set it at 2147, and enboost does not adjust this value, it is always saved that way, but I will tell you that if 1024 is the max, then something is really weird, because when I run at 1024 instead of 2147 I feel the difference, the game is slightly more stuttery than with 2147. I have tested all these memory settings individually with different combinations, and those settings have been the optimal solution for my system. I literally have almost no stutter. I also use windowed mode, no v-sync, fps limiter at 60, anisotropic at 12, and sub-pixel AA on. I have read so many different scenarios that people report, and at this point I have come to the conclusion that no one but the almighty Boris truly knows what any of this really means, lol. EDIT: Forgot a few things I wanted to throw out here. One, I am pretty sure that the issue with dx9 mirroring one for one memory to vram, was addressed in one of the several patches that dx9 got ages ago, that didn't fully eliminate this, but it did significantly reduce it down. Two, someone mentioned that they used dxdiag to tell them how much video memory they have, I would seriously advise against that, dxdiag has been known to report huge mistakes in how much video memory you actually have. There is a document about it that microsoft published, and the issue has yet to be resolved, I believe they intend on fixing this with the release of dx12, just google it and you will find it.
  9. Sweet look forward to seeing your video magic. :)
  10. Thanks for the info, appreciate it. Yeah I was getting that feeling as I read everything and how long it's been in a beta, plus the author saying months ago that he left unexpectedly than came back, and is looking like he may be gone again. But, I felt since he has it setup as modular, I thought it could be worth a look. Really not finding anything to replace drop lit torches. Supposing that I will have to just drop the mod and the idea altogether if this mod falls flat. So, I guess that just means I'll have to rely more on using the magelight spell to see in the dark, only thing I hate about it, is the light source is just soooo bright it becomes annoying as well. Guess you trade one problem for another, lol.
  11. Wow, those spiders look so much more better in terms of detail. I am gonna have to check this out sometime.
  12. Well, I am finally sick of that mod, is by far uber annoying. It's a great idea, but I don't like how it's implemented. I stumbled upon this mod while digging through nexus for a replacement https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49784/? It sounds really promising with it's ideas. I saw that it has conflicts with Dual Sheath Redux and any equipment that uses slots 44 49 54 56 and/or 60, which I believe the survival gear in wet and cold uses on or more of them. Plus I have a couple of other mods that do use some of these slots. But, the conflict is only present in the alpha build, which has quite a few bugs and problems that need worked out. The stable version doesn't have these conflicts fortunately. So I am about to check this out and see how it does. But I wanted to ask if anyone already has a replacement they use, or know of a mod that achieves atleast something like drop lit torches, but better? If anyone is curious as to what I don't like about it, I don't like having to dual equip just to pick the stupid torch back up. I can't even count how often I forget that I have to do that and then sit there and play with a damn torch either wanting to be in my hand or the ground before realizing that I have to dual equip to put it back in my inventory. Regards, Slink
  13. Not sure what exactly you are meaning. Are you asking for clarification on how or when to rebuild the bashed patch?
  14. No problem, and btw if you haven't already, you should do this for every plugin that is listed as not being needed either by the STEP patch or for reasons stated in the STEP guide, as well.
  15. I think they look really good, and I have to agree with rootsrat, that if you think this is too small of an upgrade to consider. Then what does that say about some of the other mods already inducted in STEP that achieve just as small of an addition, regardless of it's priority. And with it being stated that an all in one is on the way, which provides the user with choice, why not? I like them, even though some have a bit of a mismatch with it's surroundings, nothing is perfect. Just thought I would share my peon two cents, lol.
  16. You need to not even have those smim plugins even listed in the load order (MO right pane) at all. What you need to do is right click (or double-click) the smim mod in the left pane (MO mod list) and then go to information at the bottom of the context menu that pops up (if you right click; double click takes you here directly). Then in the new menu that comes up go to the tab that says optional plugins, and those plugins that are not required need to be moved from the available plugins (bottom list) to the optional plugins (top list). Do this by highlighting the plugin you wish to move and then use the up or down arrows to move them. This will now make those files disappear from the plugin list and wrye bash will know nothing as well. Alternatively you could just delete those esp's from the file tree and be done with it, your choice.
  17. Yeah, my understanding is ddsopt can cause issues creating bsa's, so the ideal solution would be to create bsa's with CK's Archive tool. However it is not recommended to be done with the vanilla files, can't remember the reasons in full, but if you go to the ddsopt guide, there is a section that explains this in a Note Box.
  18. Well just noticed that 2.1 was created a week ago, and states that now the compatibility patch for even better quest objectives is no longer needed if you load it after even better quest objectives. Just thought I would share this.
  19. Now that sounds like an awesome idea coming together. I can't remember if when I installed the male body replacer, if there was a choice like this as well. Is there? If not, could we try and add something like that as well?
  20. Yeah I believe that realistically option 4 with those abs is the better choice. So that's my vote. But now I am just thinking, could it be possible to give an option to the user of STEP, of which texture they like best, and then instruct them to only use that one. Cause I am just thinking, that, a hardened female body isn't always going to be true. Like if you are a magic user only wearing robes, you are more likely to be less pronounced than a female warrior dawning heavy armor and a greatsword. Just a thought.
  21. Maybe it's just me, but it looks like the biggest improvement in regards to tone and definition vs vanilla is in the arms. That level of definition on a female warrior is what I would expect. But the vanilla shot looks like it has the most definition in abs compared to the replacer. But maybe it's just the level of lighting in the shot. Either way, I do concur that the replacer, though not perfect, is definitely an improvement over vanilla.
  22. where is your dual sheath redux patch? Just realized my mistake with that question, sorry. Forgot sum can replace dsr patch. But you got the geniuses in here now so I'll leave it to them.
  23. Wow, those are nice, and I agree that the realistic clouds do offer more depth to them.
  24. From what I am reading the author of that preset and two other (variants of each other) stopped supporting them sometime ago with reason being retirement. If you are hell bent on using it, I would just try the latest binary and see what happens, if it fails, go backwards and try and older binary, etc. I am seeing alot of posts on the web of people asking the same questions, but the these questions were posted at the end of last year. So might have to try and use a preset from earlier last year. That authors last preset before hanging it up was kountervibe or something like that. So the one you are trying could be pretty old. That's my two cents anyways, sorry if it wasn't helpful.
  25. Did this problem just arise out of no where? Or is this a new save, and you just came across it? Also what exactly happens before the freeze? Probably should list your load order as well. List your hardware specs.
