ACCEPTED White Phial Replacer (by Saerileth)
TechAngel85 replied to phryxolydian's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
There are some mods we consider to be so significantly better than vanilla that we include these mods as Core. Another example would be Whiterun Trellis. -

The thing is the mod tables could be formatted in such a way that they resemble a SR:LE format. Changing this is fairly simple with CSS. With that in mind, is it the formatting the doesn't work over time or is the forms you use to edit the tables more of the limiting factor? -

Skyrim in Windows 8 vs Windows 7
TechAngel85 replied to TechAngel85's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Rumor is, Windows 9 will be a step back towards more desktop compatibility. The problem with Windows 8 and the moves Microsoft made on that ground are they forgot about the corporations which I would think is at least 25% of their clientele. A LOT of companies are just now updating to Windows 7 from Windows XP due to XP hitting the end of its lifecycle. I know the company I work for is just doing this. The main reason the companies aren't skipping Windows 7 as they've done with Vista is because Windows 8 is too far of a departure from what users have gotten accustomed to in the past 10 years. That and Windows 8 provides more unique programming hurdles for company's propitiatory software due to changes in the OS so Windows 7 was the easier switch. I'm expecting to see the same things happen when Windows 7 hits the end of its lifecycle...companies will most likely be skipping over Windows 8 entirely. That was a bit off topic...okay, completely off topic. -
Yeah, I've used that page Kelmych linked a lot. The only think I really avoid right now is tables because they're a pain in the rear. HTML code would have been so much easier for me than wiki code for tables.

Skyrim in Windows 8 vs Windows 7
TechAngel85 replied to TechAngel85's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I did. As I said, the INI haven't changed between the OSes. I'm almost inclined to install Windows 8 and dual boot just to do more testing, but I know there are users here that run Windows 8 so I thought I'd post some of these findings first to compare and see if anyone on Windows 8 has some of the same issues. Aiyen reminded me of a few weird glitches that I've also come across. Actually, one of them is the same glitch that's happened twice. NPCs have "fallen" through the landscape and disappeared only to return shortly after. The first time it happen was during the first dragon fight with Delphine. The dragon landed near the edge of the cliff and "fell" into the landscape. He was completely gone for about 3-5 minutes. I finally ran back to the town and returned to find Delphine fighting it on solid ground (pun intended). The second time this happened was while running through the tundra at night I ran across a couple NPCs fighting a vampire. The vampire ran away towards a creek and "vanished" into the the landscape. The NPCs where still standing around on guard waiting to be able to attack it again. After a few minutes I continued on so I don't know if that one ever came back or not. The second issue is Delphine herself. When running from Riverwood to the hill where to the first dragon encounter is, she runs rather erratically. She'll often run off in the completely wrong direction for a bit and then stop, turn around and continue down the road correctly. She did this at least 4-5 times. I don't know how NPC's paths are laid out in the game, but her's is clearly off or far too wide as she runs off the road quite a bit. -
Since I've started my game over after moving back to Windows 7, there are a few things I've noticed during my time playing the game. Note that nothing has changed in my setup besides switching OSes. This is possible because MO is install separately from the OS, so when I switched back to and re-installed Windows 7, my MO setup remained the same. I only had to reinstall two mods and setup the executables again...that's it. Profiles are the same and INIs are the same. Here are a few of the differences I've noticed: Better performance in Windows 8. In Windows 8, I got anywhere from 5 to 10FPS more than I get in Windows 7, on average. It's true and it's measurable through FRAPS. Linus Tech Tips did a few videos (and here) on this very thing and Windows 8 has better performance in most games with lower FPS minimums simply because it has a lower use on the system and due to better core optimization. I've been playing Skyrim with ENB enabled and FRAPS running to grab random compare shots as I play. Because of this I've noticed I'm getting on average around 40FPS; whereas, in Windows 8 I was getting on average closer to 50FPS. So there you have it. Take what you will from that. Some things weren't working properly in Windows 8...from what I can tell... Grass Whether is was the INI settings or SFO itself, the fact is my grasses weren't working properly in Windows 8. I only noticed this because of the switch back to Windows 7. In Windows 8, all the SFO textures were working and I had my iMinGrassSize set to 20 because I thought my system could handle it and it did without issue...until I loaded up the game in Windows 7. I immediately noticed a ton of extra grasses, the SFO grass-flowers (you know the yellow, blue and white ones that fake you out because they look harvest-able but aren't), lupins, a ton more of the tundra grasses, etc...all of this wasn't present in Windows 8... At first, this really threw me for a loop. I thought I had somehow installed the wrong version of SFO. So I re-downloaded SFO and re-installed the basic version. Same result. I finally just determined it must not have been working properly in Windows 8 since Vurt hasn't updated the file any either. As a result, my iMinGrassSize is now set to 30 to gain back a bit of performance. Getting far more loot from animals, bandits, creatures and chests... As the header says, I'm receiving a lot more loot from creatures/NPCs and chests. At least, more than I was in Windows 8. This is most likely a result from one of the mods in STEP and wouldn't be a surprise to most, but the amount and variety of loot has surprised me. NPCs are carrying potions and more of them as well as food items and items from Wet&Cold. Chests also have a better variety as before I'd never have found enchanted weapons in chests; however, I've found a couple since starting the game over again. This all leads me to be believe, just like the grasses, something else wasn't working as it should under Windows 8. These are the things I've noticed so far and there could be more. Again, the only thing that changed was the OS. I didn't have to re-install MO, I haven't rebuilt my Bash Patch, I haven't touched my INIs besides turning down the iMinGrassSize value (up is down in this case) and I only re-installed three mods. I haven't even updated any mods since switching back to Windows 7. Skyrim was installed in the exact some manner through Steam, and yes I had verified my files in Windows 8 before so everything was there and working properly. I found this all to be rather interesting. Thoughts?

Tried everything but: SKSE + Mod Organizer = CTD
TechAngel85 replied to stamstamstam's question in Mod Organizer Support
Make sure you're running SKSE 1.7.1 and in the INI you only have: [General]ClearInvalidRegistrations=1[Memory]DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768ScrapHeapSizeMB=256...which the INI should be located in the SKSE folder. -

If you "updated" MO, you might try uninstalling it (backup your mods and profiles) and then reinstalling it fresh. I have had an issue with updating MO before and things not working right afterwards. -

TechAngel85 replied to stamstamstam's question in Mod Organizer Support
Gopher describes that here: https://youtu.be/PYY1OV2_ZTk?t=3m2s and we recommend not doing it here: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_Installation The only way to move it would be to re-install Steam to a different directory. For example, mine is located at: E:ProgramsSteam. The Programs folder is one I created myself on a separate partition so Windows User Control doesn't kick in when I modify things. You could also add a Library Folder in the Steam settings and just re-install Skyrim to that folder so your not re-installing all of your Steam games. Then you can move MO to the new Steam installation and correct your executables in MO to point to the new location. At least that way you're also not having to reinstall all the mods. -

Did you set SKSE to run as administrator as well? Installing games that you plan to mod in the Programs Files is always a bad idea. -

I think if we set up the proposal in the Pack namespace that would suffice. It'll keep the discussion to Staff and Pack Authors since users would have to be in the pack author group on the wiki to contribute...meaning they'll have to have actually used the tools. -
I'm running the newest drivers under Windows 7 and have not had any issues yet.

I agree with most, if not all, of what Nearox said too. There's a reason SR:LE is so successful and the format/style of that the guide is developed in has something to do with that. I see that he's still using most the CSS I developed a long time ago as an alternative to the STEP:Guide. The only thing I'm not sure can happen is the dropping of the mod tables. S4N would know best on this and would be the main developer along with Z so that one suggestion will be entirely in their realm. Some of the changes suggested though might be as simple as editing pack templates which is how I removed the "Mod List:" text from the table headers earlier. I couldn't figure out a purpose for that text so I removed it. EDIT: Looking at the templates, some of the changes would be fairly easy to make. Once we set up a proposal on some of these ideas and get the discussion, votes and approval some of the suggestions should be able to be done by Staff. Most of it looks like HTML which I'm no stranger to. Calling different parameters from the forums/wiki is another story but if they're already present on the page then moving them around and changing the HTML to fit different formatting will be easy enough to do without needing the Devs to do it. -

Maybe when we get some more ideas and discussion flowing, but if and when we do it'll need to be outside of the STEP namespace so that the users in this discussion can also contribute since the STEP namespace is locked to Staff. -

I thought that might be it. Yeah, those fields for adding that information is locked for users due to it be essential to the STEP Guide. The only two ways around this which I can think of would be to add in a text field which would be editable by users but not contain any relevant installation information, etc because that type of information would be specific to the Guide/Pack and may differ from Pack to Pack. The other way (which I don't know if it's possible) would be to create some type of flag for mod pages that are included in STEP. Mod pages with this flag would be locked to users by default as they are now and mod pages without the flag would be unlocked for user editing. Either way, I'll add this to the suggestions. EDIT: Ninja'ed by EssArrBee...same ideas though! -

Can you post some shots of your MO window, your MO Executable window with SKSE highlighted, your SKSE file tree within MO and your Skyrim directory? Those will be most helpful. -

Any recommendation/suggestions in this area is also good. Core was decided on by the Staff; however, we're not infallible and recommendations on mod removals from Core to Extended will be looking into. Adding this to the OP. Adding new mod pages comes with the territory of being a Pack Author. We'd love to have a vast library of mods for each category. Eventually over time as mods are added, this will be less necessary. What sort of details are you looking to add? -

A few questions not covered in the guide:
TechAngel85 replied to mooncrow's question in General Skyrim LE Support
CTD: Double check your ENBoost and SKSE setup to make sure they are done properly. Tearing: Z-fighting is normal and can be described more like a "flickering" in the distance; especially on mountains. I'm not sure if they is want you are experiencing. See this video. Actual "tearing" is caused by vsync issues or overclocking your GPU too far, but appear as if they are on the monitor itself. Colored pixelation and dots are caused by VRAM issues which only result from overclocking your VRAM too far. It's easier to install the entire Guide first, then copy that profile to a new one and deactivate the Extended mods if you want a STEP:Core only profile. Mods: AppachiiSkyHair - this has been known to cause some issues so just be weary if you start experiencing issues after installing this mod. Player Headtracking - this has caused some issues with some users on some systems, so be aware of that as well. CoT - will likely need a ton of patching with other mods because of all of its edits to the world, so be aware of that. Some custom work in TES5edit might be required. I don't know enough about the rest to say anything about them. TES5edit will tell you of any conflicts. Make sure you use LOOT. Patches: It doesn't matter when you install them. Probably easier to do it during the installation of the mod that needs the patch. Baseline and Resolutions: The baseline is set to be the most compatible with the most systems. If you have the processing power and the memory to handle the higher res textures, then by all means that is your personal choice to install them. If you start seeing slowdowns that you're uncomfortable with, it's easy to change texture mods to a lower res texture set. MO: Merge means - copy and replace. This means existing files will be overwritten if the mod you're merging has the same files. In other words, if there are file conflicts, they will be overwritten by the new mod. Non-conflicted files will be left alone and will be retained. This option is most appropriate for mod updates and patches. Replace means - delete the mod with the same name entirely and install the new mod. This option replaces the mod by deleting it entirely (no files are retained) and replacing it with the new mod that you're installing. You never want to choose this option unless you're re-installing the entire mod.
