General Support Thread

Thanks for input - was hoping to find the specific file name for the texture used in that part of Helgen a big ask I suspect. I found a file dirt02.dds which seemed to have no image in it compared to the vanilla version of this file which might be part of the problem, the normal map is fully present. I'll try and see if I can find this file in HD2K or Serious and replace it or remove it from SRO (probably the easiest option) but only if the resulting file works. Not yet remotely sure how to use gimp to repair or improve the texture or to scale up from vanilla size. More complicated than just increasing the size. Ha hum. Edit: definitely not that file. There is no folder for helgen which would help to narrow it down, just some sort of generic flagstone texture - I'll keep looking. -

Hi, I am trying to get SRO working but when unzipping, every file I downloaded had between 1 - 2 files broken in some fashion. I am trying to isolate which files are causing the problem so that I can remove them or something similar. Here is the first example that I have come across. Many SRO files are overwritten using other newer texture packs but still one or two of the broken files still remain Does anyone know what file this is? Thanks, Â :) EDIT: Oh well the picture was fine in the post and working but now seems to have disappeared - don't really know how to prevent that happening. Edit 2: and now it's back - yay. If using a photo editor e.g. GIMP would it be true that any broken file would show up as purple as in the game? -
DROPPED Unique Region Names (by Thingy Person)

I don't know, it does seem alot but then again I like to get a reminder of where i am and the mod works perfectly fine once all the edits have been made. You only have to do it once. :) -

If you look on the SR guide for this mod a great deal of changes are made in order to make it compatible with SR including Hearthfires. Patches relating to other mods are made later, guide says to use version 5. :) -
CTD and Performance patch ENBoost (by Boris Vorontsov)
Smile44 replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Your kidding? Oh well clearly Boris is on a mission. :) Edit: Actually he says on the download page and the read me that this is very much a work in progress and he hasn't managed to do too much for the performance as yet so probably not ready for proper testing. -

DROPPED The Beauty of Skyrim - Dungeons (by raiserfx)
Smile44 replied to vfxninjaeditor's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I've gone for vanilla plus HRDLC, but with re-defined overwritten by beauty of skyrim a very close second. Re-defined tries to do too much whereas BoS is too bland - I think in all cases vanilla plus HRDLC looks pretty strong and this goes for other graphic threads. -
SKYRIMLE Solstheim landscape and furniture (by Langely)
Smile44 replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
STEP wins for me in both cases, Langleys just seems to smooth out some of the textures so that they lose detail, at least from the pictures shown. -
HQ paper basically seems to be a higher res version of vanilla, I prefer current STEP mods for the look but if improved vanilla is what we are after then HQ paper is closest, from these screenies.

OBIS works really well, doesn't seem to spawn extra bandits but makes them far more variable and interesting - haven't noticed any problems with it. The Way of the Dovahkin is really fun but does make the game really difficult, just when you think you've beaten a set of baddies they get reinforcements. doesn't happen all the time though (thankfully), but again seems to be stable. Civil War seems interesting but have not got much to report as I have not gotten involved with it so far. I am also using quite a bit of ERSO especially Enhanced Dragons and Real Unlevelled Skyrim amongst others. I'm trying to keep the number of scripts to a minimum (not using WOTD) and this seems to be effective. Only cause of CTDs at present is EFF or at least with Vilja present so I am trying some simpler follower mods (ERSO 31) to increase the number and Better Stealth AI to make them not stupid. Hopefully I will find greater stability with followers (really need them in some areas) and may not miss some of the other features, time will tell. I'll post my mod / esp list later today or tomorrow when I'm home next if anyone is interested.

That is as it should be as they have been merged into the bashed patch thus saving you some valuable .esp slots. :)

Forgive me if this is overly simplistic but have you checked the boxes next to the .esp files, in other words activated the mods? :)

Problem with Skyrim Mod Organizer and BOSS
Smile44 replied to perkymcgiggles's question in Mod Organizer Support
I generally install all (relevant) applications in the common folder. Point MO to the required .exe files and no problems. When using MO it is useful IMO to keep the Data folder as pristine as possible. :) -
Noob help required, using WYRE etc
Smile44 replied to TheHistorian's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Quote "I know the mods have to be extracted and then copied over to skyrim/data - The extracted mod produces a data folder, with files (ESP'S etc) (little white things!!!) which were copied and pasted into skyrim/data - Is this correct? What I can't see is how these utilities work?" You would need to put the zip files into the Bash Installers directory which will in the Skyrim Mods directory wherever you placed that when you installed Wrye Bash. There are detailed instructions that accompany WB, if you look in the folder called Mopy and then Docs. Also a Wrye Bash guide compiled by the fellows here is available on the Wiki -(top left of this window). As you are new I would really advise using Mod Organizer (guide also on the wiki) as it is much easier to learn and far superior to NMM. Click on the Wiki tab (top left) then read the guides. Many questions will be answered. Best of luck. :) -
Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback
Smile44 replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Is it just Skyrim Revisited that you have installed or have you added more mods? The reason I ask is that I had the same problem in that every tool at my disposal said good to go, but the game would crash at the menu screen or before. It was due to having too many active .esp files. -
I quite enjoy making the patches, but IT jargon doesn't come easily to me - I don't know if I will ever get to the point where I can easily see the best way to make a patch or where one needs to be made. I have a vague idea but no confidence that it would be correct and fully functional. Maybe it will come if I redo SR enough times I will get it eventually. So as a learning tool SR is effective but more so for some than others. I get why having the patches pre-made would be a huge time saver as well as the .esps but if enough people become competent then getting mods tested and pulling everything together will in the long run be faster and more effective. On the one hand I would not object to such a resource but personally I prefer to build them myself even if I don't fully understand what I am doing.

EEAI is compatible with most if not all combat mods. The .esp needs to be placed after any combat mods as stated on the description page. It is not in itself an AI package but rather an enhancement to the AI of all enemies (not followers), so it should not be used on it's own. Erkiel recommends using a combat mod alongside his ERSO package and chooses DUEL as his recommended mod. It does seem to make fights more difficult, how much more is hard to guage - esp slots are obviously at a premium with a full SR install. :)

So far SR in full on it's own works really well it's when you add other mods that things begin to become unravelled at least for me. Neo has hinted at things he might be including in his guide prior to working on SR - LE. So I as well I'm sure, many others are waiting to see what will be in it, e.g more NPCs such as immersive patrols, inconsequential NPCs, followers, perks, possible overhauls. We will know when we know as I suspect what we will see is a more or less completed version - hence the large amounts of silence from Neo - less distractions etc... So to return to the point, there are quite a few ways to go with respect to overhauls, SU is good, YASH and Requiem are better IMO, the latter is going through some important changes - best to wait for those. ERSO (great mod but way too many .esp files for a full install), ACE etc. All have their merits and require different amounts of tweaking to get working and of course there are a number of separate mods that can achieve the same sorts of results (really like SPERG). The tweaking is the tricky part for any of us for whom mastering the necessary modding skills needed to work out how to get things co-operating well is an on-going headache - but I have high hopes that within this community a fully stable, challenging and immersively amazing skyrim will be achieved. SR will likely need to be fully re-installed when it come out again and of course it is also likely to be linked to major changes to STEP that are in the pipeline. I would try Skyrim Unleashed and report any feedback on here, it will certainly need less tweaking than SkyRe and will require disabling Realistic Needs at least. Details on the mod page. Any testing that you do is invaluable and goes towards making the perfect skyrim, a highly subjective but worthy cause and probably why so many of the top mod authors are getting actively involved in STEP. Until then SR and STEP and by extensions any versions thereof are going to remain a WIP, and require huge amounts of patience which as I recall was the first thing I read on the original STEP pdf. from the Compiler so many moons ago. :) -

Yes I'm using it, have not noticed any issues with it, still need to make the changes outlined in the guide, except the first "copy as override" instruction for what would seem to be obvious reasons. :) -
I have used some parts of ERSO and I really like it in principal. I prefer using SPERG than ERSO's perk changes, and Trade and Barter instead of ERSO 14 - most of the rest of the changes though are pretty useful. :)

Ahh now that makes sense. Thanks for that it seems obvious really, not good with jargon I tend not to see the connections very easily, I did not realise they were related. Thanks. :) -

I'm sure this must have been asked before but as I am re-installing SR and re-doing patches etc.. I've always wondered why we add 1 to the COCT count in some patches making them even more RED more incompatible. There is a reason but I don't know it and would like to. Thanks in advance to any helpful souls out there. :) -
