  1. Hi Just as an update to this thread, I have just about had it with WB. I know it seems ridiculous but with a clean install and through adding texture packages, I find when I start the game, loads of missing textures. I uninstalled all the texture mods and still have the problem. I checked the game out before installing these texture mods and it was working fine. So what's is the problem? Skyrim - textures.bsa is missing. How? It was there before I began installing mods. Steam is re-uploading the file now. If I optimised the texture bsa files with DDSopt and then stick the files in WB as in a normal texture mod would they automatically overwrite the bsa files HD DLCs as well? I know NMM is not as user friendly as WB or as powerful but I never had any problems like this. I hate to have to go back but this is so */$£^%ing frustrating - I almost feel like going back to work.
  2. Your guess was probably correct. In the end I reinstalled the game completely and this appears to have solved the problem - that said I have not started reinstalling textures. The thing with DLC 2 bsa going missing was and is a mystery as it was definitely there and I had run the game with it in prior to installing textures. When installing textures with WB is it better to install each mod individually in the recommended order or build a simple package incorporating the mods as in TPC. I have all the SRO files saved (light and full) so probably best to use those. Anyway this is getting off topic a little. Thanks for the feedback 'Z'.
  3. The border lines are not that obvious to see. They are big though but also faded (in game at least). This is otherwise exactly the same map as recommended in STEP. With a couple of minor ini tweaks you can get rid of the clouds and have full 360 rotation.
  4. I understand your point as it doesn't add a great deal into the game but it is lore friendly and more realistic. That said having a big 3D map that you can zoom around on isn't remotely lore friendly so it's all moot, really.
  5. I'm surprised this doesn't come up in the searches World Map - Skyrim Hold Borders. It's on gems "Same as "A Quality World Map - With Roads" but it adds the borders to each hold (helpful for when you have a bounty on your head)" Worth consideration I think.
  6. Hi I know that this on the surface is a missing textures problem for which there are other posts but from what I have seen they don't cover what I am experiencing. I have been trying to solve this problem with fresh installs of the game / packages etc. but I need some help. When I run Skyrim un-modded everything is fine, but when I add textures through Step 2B, i get purple shapes etc.. which are missing and or corrupted files. Problem is when I uninstall them, I still have the same missing textures - I am using WB to install them and have done so without problems in the past. So I use steam to validate the game cache and it starts on a big file download. Looking in my data folder I find that the Bethesda HD DLC 2 bsa has disappeared from the data folder. In other words WB has uninstalled and deleted it. This happened recently but I assumed I had deleted it by accident - not the case apparently. This is pretty freaky and I wonder if anyone has come across this before. Hopefully something ridiculously obvious - that I am not doing.
  7. I will look into it. To be honest I was not entirely sure what it is supposed to do or where as the information supplied with the mod is somewhat sketchy to say the least, I just played around with it as suggested by Gopher in the video. I flagged it up as a possible point of interest. I'm still learning my way around all the software but I knew my observations were not conclusive in any way. I guess I need to look at what it is doing to the INIs, if I find anything conclusive I'll get back to you. Edit: Not able to look into it at present as an unkown issue is causing me to have missing textures which is new on me - have done this a whole bunch of times never had the purple blobs.
  8. Hi, I was thinking of adding this as a mod suggestion before finding it here. I found about SC from the 'Mod Sanctuary' recommendation and as I have a weak and puny system it was worth a look. I just made a couple of small changes using it and set it to use all available cores and threads. Then tried it out what I discovered was not apparent at first but I soon discovered something useful. I had decided to try different graphics packages to see what worked the best as my system struggled mightily with a full STEP install of 2B conflicting graphics. Back before the whole SRO thing blew up Starac (intemperate fellow), suggested a six mod graphic set up which I tried, but really came into its own when I used bethesda HD DLC optimized alongside Skyrim performance files along with the light versions of SRO, Water, SMIM, Dynamic snow and Vurts Flora overhaul, my frame rate soared. I thought it might be useful to compare screen shots and framerates for these graphics packages alongside a full Step install with the full TPC graphics install to show how much my FPS was affected. Trouble is it didn't work. I was getting 35+ FPS and frequently 50-60 when not too many peaple were milling about on screen. This was even with using full HD versions of everything. Normally I had 18 - 30 with a full step install including TPC. I was assuming that tpc was the culprit and that my hardware just couldn't handle that much detail. The only change was my use of SC. So now I have a full Step HD install running at over 50 fps - with RCRN and RCRN+. This is by no means conclusive but just imagine how much more it opens up for low end pcs. I regularly run with well over 200 mods and am using WB. Anyway I just thought it might be interesting. Obviously the research I was doing with regard to graphics packs is completey pointless thanks to recent "throwing rattle out of pram" action from Himself at SRO.
  9. Yeah what he said. You can use ACE BYOG to tweak prices and other things to balance up most changes that SkyRe makes. I find that adding mods with patches such as Immersive Armors which I really like a bit tricky to get working with SkyRe, lots of gloves boot and heads running around on invisible bodies, so not adding anything in, don't really need to I suspect. Also recommend Skyrim scaling Stopper (full recommended install) and Requiem - both work really well but the perk trees improvements in SkyRe win out for me. I recommend ASIS Encounter Zones (optional file in downloads section) instead of SkyRe's encounter module as it gives a greater range of potential encounters and requires greater caution. The AI with this mod is effective and I am pleased with especially as I can't seem to run Skyproc patchers with my current set up which rules out ASIS and Automatic Variants, a shame both great immersion mods. Anyway SkyRe  - a big thumbs up.
  10. It is probably to do with your load order and the way you installed your mods. It looks as though you installed everything through NMM (could be wrong). NMM does make for messy plugin lists and data folders. It's best to install section A and B manually at least that way you have exactly what you need in the data folder. That said load order is best resolved by BOSS. If you download install and then run BOSS it will tell you the order for your plugins - if you then open NMM, your mods will be placed in that order. You will also get info about your mods e.g. using TES5 Edit to clean your main ESM files. Lots to do... I have been there so many times. If you only have STEP installed it definitely works very well and the subsequent education in mod use is very useful - but for each machine and preference there will be variations. Load order though and or conflicting files are the usual culprits. Hope this helps. :D The other problem could be ENB. Endlessly troublesome - though they can be worth it. You would be better off using RCRN 3.6 along side The Complier's RCReN with ENB - this looks great and works a treat with no noticeable FPS loss. You would need to remove CoT though.
  11. Actually you can do this in Steam by adding the skse_loader as a new game in the steam list then select it and press play. Simples.
  12. Berts Breezehome remodeled - not lore friendly but very stable mod that has all the latest mod cons. Lots of fun etc.. Breeze home as is was always bugged slightly but this is the only mod that improves breezehome and that always seems to work out of the box so to speak. https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8922 Worth a look but would never in a million years be part of a STEP philosophy unless there is a just for fun addon pack of silly mods. I am looking for lore friendly mods that improve existing player homes so if anyone knows of any stable mods that are happy campers in a modded skyrim then I would be pleased to know.
  13. I've just installed your mod over RCRN 3.5. Works brilliantly on my very low end pc. RCRN pure on it's own wasn't quite there. So thanks 'TC' for getting that enhancer out so quick.
  14. Thanks for getting back to me frihyland, reading your list of mods with errors is what prompted me to start a new install. I have 6GB of RAM and 1GB of VRAM, a core 2 Quadcore Q6600 CPU O/clocked to 3Ghz (M/board might be dodgy though as one Dimm socket is disfunctional - BSOD frequently if I use it). I have struggled to get decent framerates > 20 but < 30 and had to drop mods like warzones because my card did not seem able to handle too many moving objects. I tried setting my resolution lower and going for medium setting in the launcher and it did not seem to make any difference to my frame rate when I had lots of mods installed, but have just tried lowering it all on my clean install and found I could get a regular 60 FPS on low settings and 45 + on medium which is new so I am trying to play around with that to get the best combination of settings to give me 50+ and I am close whilst in high settings - in trying to make Skyrim look amazing using a low setting seems to defeat the point of adding textures and effects in the first place. I guess I will have to be patient and install my more organized packs (WIP) slowly and see what happens. I am cutting out pretty much any mod that is not in the green / clean section of your lists. ENBs are out for me as they tend to cut my framerates in half but then again with these new settings I may be able to give it another go. That said I really get on well with RCRN at present. As to my original question I take it that provided load order is correct (I use BOSS but can't quite get my head around BUM yet despite the guide - I have much to learn) I should be able to use a reasonable number of mods in my game without worrying about not being able to get very far. I didn't think that made sense, but I was beginning to wonder. I use Wyre BAsh and NMM, don't have a clue how DDsopt works but I do use Texture Optimizer woohoo. So I will continue my experimentation and see what happens. I remain a big fan of what you are doing here and hope one day to contribute (once I lose my rookie status), may even try my hand at making a mod or two - now where did I put that 15 year old copy of 3D MAXX.
  15. Hi to the inspirational STEP team and friends, since discovering Step earlier this year I have discovered a brand new hobby, one which of course you are all very familiar. I have since experimented with a very large number of mods, reinstalled Skyrim numerous times and of course Step. My system is not great to say the least (GT 440 anyone?), but through a lot of time and effort I managed to get around 233 mods working together (I just seem to want to have everything). I have recently found through the very useful 'Mod Errors' thread, that a number of mods were likely to be causing problems and I am now planning a brand new install (my mod packs could also be organised better - great idea by the way) - I am really keen to get back into the game though but it seems that every time I reach around level 10 my game starts to CTD really badly and this includes earlier installs with slightly less mods. I have started to pick up hints on the forums that the VRAM or DRAM? starts to get filled up memorywise and wont run with too many mods especially as you get further into the game (multiple quest threads perhaps). I would like to know if there is any truth to this before I get into the whole thing again so  that I can plan it better and discard some mods (sniff):(. Any thoughts would be a great help - thanks in advance.
