Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - pre 2.xx
elenhil replied to sheson's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
Sheson, I began to experience a critical error while rebuilding: Exception in unit process line 615: "DynDOLOD.esp" requires master "skyrim.esm" to be loaded before it. Note the small-case 's' un 'skyrim.esm' -
This has nothing to do with Nvidia drivers. I have had the same issue with an AMD card. Disabling the Steam overlay solved it.

How do you guys judge whether a mod is script-intensive or not? I ask this because I was using an altogether different horse mod (kuertee's Horse Commands) and am now wondering if it has been unnecessarily taxing script-wise. Never occurred to me to suspect a horse mod (besides the 'usual suspects' like Wet and Cold, Frostfall, Footprints, etc).

I thought as much, but Teabag said it did not matter since Hunterborn handles loot indirectly, so you won't get duplicate vanilla HB and CACO drops.

Except that there's no business to be had. So business analogies are way off the mark. -
SKYRIMLE Vivid Weathers - a complete Weather and Visual overhaul
elenhil replied to Mangaclub's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Having checked the 'wronged' side of the argument's... arguments I must say I am thoroughly stuffed with that 'copyright' business. No-one can copyright 'style, art, vision'. Impossible. You can't copyright ideas either, only patent them (and God help us if we get patenting - and patent wars in modding). If someone does copy your style, art and vision (all of them artistic terms) , this is not theft, this is the proverbial best form of flattery. So it all comes down to the quality of the alleged 'copy'. If you're a Raphael, and that person's copy is but a shadow of your work, congratulations! If you're a Raphael, and that person is a Picasso, congratulations to both of you. Heck, even if you're a Raphael and - BOOM! - there's suddenly a whole brotherhood of artistic upstarts painting breathtakingly beautiful stuff implicitly contrary to your 'style, art and vision' - even that cannot diminish the latter. -
SKYRIMLE Vivid Weathers - a complete Weather and Visual overhaul
elenhil replied to Mangaclub's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Usability-wise, Manga's mod beats CoT hands down. My install required around a dozen patches to make CoT enjoyable: the three separate still-non-legendary CoT files, the nights plugin, the Minty's Lightning mod's patch, the AOS2 patch, the Realistic Nights' equally non-legendary four-file monster (which had to be edited in TES5Edit to remove SS, COTWP, and ESS dependencies), plus a handful of custom-patches just to make it all work together with the rest of my mods). VW achieved the same with just three files (down to two once Manga releases a Legendary version) and zero custom patching. And without a dedicated Supreme and Volumetric Fog companion mod. And with a MCM. -
My ENB rant - or someone please explain the fascination with ...
elenhil replied to begalund's question in Post-Processing Support
One possible note is that theirs (ENB presets') is a fake darkness. It makes the world look darker to you, its user, but to the ENB-less NPCs the nights are still Vanilla bright. So, they have no trouble seeing and hitting you. Contrary to that, mods like Realistic Nights claim to change the real level of light. Wouldn't vouch Skyrim's engine makes NPC accuracy depend on that, though... -
Well, I'd be so bold as to claim that such an agreement would have required all parties to have a clear understanding of the matter they are disagreeing about, which I am far from sure is the case. Because, otherwise, why on Middle-earth was I, for example, having you, Z, argue that social change ought to be introduced through constitutional amendments ONLY (and not even a simple amendment, as per the degree of entrenchment the Russian constitution has, with its 2/3 majority requirement, but a super amendment with a legally unheard-of near unanimous public support clause)? That may betray a mentality shaped by a certain Constitution of the United States of America (which is not super relevant for those of us who are subject to other constitutions, even unwritten ones, if you can imagine such a thing!), but an actual understanding of what the Russian child protection laws are about, what the status quo in the Russian society is, and what constitutes a change thereof? Not in the slightest. Because, quite simply, for a deeply socially conservative society, it is precisely the 'LGBT rights' agenda pushed (quite vigorously at times) by international pressure groups that constitutes social change, not the constitutionally and culturally entrenched opposition to it. Frankly, I might (with not a small degree of success, I believe) argue that for a nation of heavy smokers a ban on smoking in public (part of a larger anti-tobacco agenda) is a greater social change and an attempt at social engineering than that particular extension of the comprehensive child protection agenda being enacted in Russia (of which a ban on homosexual propaganda to children is but a small part, along with a ban on harmful kinds of advertising aimed at children, harmful kinds of films aimed at children, and many others).

Perhaps you could use Merge Plugins Standalone or something like that? Create a set of mini-patches for specific mods, with a nice FOMOD/BAIN for cherrypickers, and a batch file for merging the selection into a single patch.

ACCEPTED Stealth Skills Rebalanced (by kryptopyr)
elenhil replied to kryptopyr's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I tried SSR a couple of years ago, but the only thing that stood out for me was the overavailability of its specially enchanted gloves. I guess it's rather subjective. Anyway, I swapped it for another SSR (Skyrim Skills Redesigned), whose Thieving Redesigned module, while going far beyond Vanilla (it is, after all, merging Lockpicking and Pickpocketing into a dingle skill tree), seems to engender a more interesting style of gameplay. Its Traceless perk (Not receiving a bounty for a day will clear nonviolent crimes) cured me of my scavescumming addiction, and its unique twist to Deadly Aim (having a larger sneak critical when shooting a target in the back) humoured the strategy gamer inside me. The rest of fine-tweaking (making sweet point size a whole 10% of Vanilla settings, etc) was done by SkyTweak. -
Did this gem of a mod really slip through the net?
-
Come on. You seriously think my couple of dozen leisurely forum posts can have undone a couple of decades' worth of media propaganda and make people 'convert, repent, and burn their heretical writings' (as was the golden standard of debating back in the Church Fathers' days?) LOL! OK, then. Stating your bare opinion was a smaller waster of time, then :)
-
I will have to disagree. Had you read this discussion thoroughly, you'd have noticed that I consistently helped to breach the language barrier by providing that first-hand information, including the precise wording of laws in question (something I am yet to see elsewhere on the Internet). Hence, the barrier can hardly be a real factor. And I will probably have to agree with my opponents in that you're wasting your time on 'opinionating'. An opinion without the reasons behind it is the most useless thing on the Internet (and, by the way, 'all the Cretians are liars' ;) ).

DROPPED Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul (by Shurah)
elenhil replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
That is a bit exaggerated, don't you think? STEP has a non-ICAIO version, so no-one is forcing anyone to use the latter, while ETaC isn't even on the STEP Extended modlist, so compatibility with it is a matter for individual users. I sincerely hope that politics and personalities will not extend beyond the Banter Inn and influence mod inclusion policy (especially to the point of singling out mod authors whose work 'should not be supported'). I, too, have only few hours a day to play the game, and, given that for me checking the STEP community is a huge part of that process, I, too, would like to play it serenely and not see the community part of it transformed into a PC (the other PC) platform for anti- this-or-that-thing activism. -
Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - pre 2.xx

I wonder what sort of performance and extra heap memory impact will ultra trees incur. Would anyone be so kind as to benchmark this new option on a Core install? -
Guys, I've been playing with TES5Edit looking for mod conflicts, and it seems there is a record not covered by STEP Patches: ICAIO is overwriting AOS sound edits in WeatherMountains [REGN:0004D7FD]
-
OK, now I get it. Thanks!
-
So, that page should instead read 'if installing the listed mod and not installing either Core or Extended Patch' (not plugin), right?
-
So the problem is here giving 'a list of patches for mods in STEP that have patches that will need to be downloaded if installing the listed mod and not installing either STEP Combined Plugin'. Which, taken the other way round (that is, when installing either STEP Combined Plugin), seems to suggest that these patches aren't needed.
-
STEP patches requirements state that users of a combined plugin do not need to install dD-Dragonborn-Dawnguard-EBT Patch.esp (well, actually, it says it the other way round, but still..). And yet, with LOOT constantly reminding be otherwise, I compared dD-Dragonborn-Dawnguard-EBT Patch.esp and STEP Combined PluginHF.esp and found them having zero duplicate records. Which, I believe, means that the former was not merged into the latter, right? So, is the wiki wrong?
-
Completely BTW: what were those tweaks to EBT?

DROPPED Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul (by Shurah)
elenhil replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Shurah, if you're still planning to work on Guard AI further, would you mind making them more of a nuisance for a thief character? Like, following the player if you're sneaking or simply following you around Jarls' quarters (so that you won't 'accidentally' pocket that gold lying around)? -
Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - pre 2.xx

I've been trying parallax lately, installing newer versions of the same textures/meshes I used previously. Would I benefit from 'updating' DynDOLOD output?
