  1. I have a ultra widescreen monitor too. I think that most of us who are dope enough to have a ultra widescreen monitor know to look for mods to make games that don't support our totally awesome wideness. It's just par for the course, and games are still being made that don't work out of the box.
  2. Ah. My first computer was a potato too. You could try using BethINI on the Poor preset. Basically, you're going to need to crank everything as far down as you can stand.
  3. And another related setting: Skyrim.ini [Display] fSunStaticTimeUpdateScale=0.1000fSunStaticTimeUpdateScale is used when bDisableShadowJumps=1. It sets the amount of time in seconds that passes between updating the shadows with the sun. There is no transition using this method. Ironically, since there is no transition used with the default bDisableShadowJumps method, it is more jumpy. However, with small value of fSunStaticTimeUpdateScale, as is default, it just provides a gradual movement, that although it flickers constantly, can be easily ignored.
  4. To update this for Skyrim SE, Bethesda added a new setting that controls this: bDisableShadowJumps toggles whether or not sun-shadow movement is controlled dynamically outdoors, resulting in constantly moving and potentially flickering shadows in relation to the movement of the sun as time passes. Disabling this will result in sun-shadow movement being dictated by the fSunShadowUpdateTime and fSunUpdateThreshold settings, as utilized previously in the non-Special edition version of the game. Skyrim.ini [Display] bDisableShadowJumps=0
  5. After doing more testing on the INI files, I have found a setting that fixes the constantly moving shadow effect and re-enables the old form of controlling sun-shadow movement that we have been used to via the fSunShadowUpdateTime and fSunUpdateThreshold settings. It seems that setting bDisableShadowJumps under Display to 0 will return us to this former method, removing the constantly flickering method of shadows always in movement in relation to the sun. I think that this setting boils down to user preference than anything else. With this new information, I recommend the user to set this according to your preference. The following settings controls sun-shadow movement in Skyrim Special Edition. Skyrim.ini [Display] bDisableShadowJumps=1 fSunShadowUpdateTime=1 fSunUpdateThreshold=0.5 bDisableShadowJumps toggles whether or not sun-shadow movement is controlled dynamically outdoors, resulting in constantly moving and potentially flickering shadows in relation to the movement of the sun as time passes. Disabling this will result in sun-shadow movement being dictated by the fSunShadowUpdateTime and fSunUpdateThreshold settings, as utilized previously in the non-Special edition version of the game. fSunShadowUpdateTime sets the speed of sun-shadow transitions in seconds. Setting this to 0 will cause the transition to be immediate, but jarring. bDisableShadowJumps must be set to 0 for this to have any effect in Skyrim Special Edition. fSunUpdateThreshold sets the time between sun-shadow transitions. A value of 0.05 is equal to 1 second, so a value of 1 equals 20 seconds. Increasing this also increases the distance the shadows will move during the transition. Setting this to 0 will cause the shadows to constantly be moving outdoors with the sun (not recommended). bDisableShadowJumps must be set to 0 for this to have any effect in Skyrim Special Edition. The following is the old STEP recommended settings for original Skyrim for sun-shadow transitions in case the user would like to use it: Smooth sun-shadow transitions fSunShadowUpdateTime sets the speed of sun-shadow transitions in seconds. It is recommended to be adjusted to minimize the transitions. The value here increases the speed of the transition from one second to a quarter second. fSunUpdateThreshold sets the time between sun-shadow transitions. A value of 0.05 is equal to 1 second, so a value of 1 equals 20 seconds. Increasing this also increases the distance the shadows will move during the transition. It is recommended to be adjusted to minimize the transitions. The tweak here increases the time between transitions from 10 to 30 seconds, causing the transition to move the shadows three times as far. Default Sun Shadow TransitionsTweaked Sun Shadow Transitions fSunShadowUpdateTime=0.25 fSunUpdateThreshold=1.5
  6. It is not legit.
  7. That can happen if you adjust shadows a particular way.
  8. I have spent way too much time studying the Bethesda INI files.
  9. OK. I think I can manage that.
  10. Uncheck Disable Precipitation in the Detail tab. It appears that Darkwater Pass requires precipitation to be enabled, or else it will crash to desktop. First time it crashed, it actually crashed my entire machine! I guess I will have to remove the option from BethINI now that we know it can cause crashes. Thank you for reporting this! Always keep... [Weather] bPrecipitation=1
  11. You can paste in spoilers: [spoiler] Content [/spoiler] Or you can use pastebin
  12. Could you post the problematic INIs?
  13. I am unable to reproduce this. Seems to not crash upon visiting on BethINI High with no mods other than ENBoost and SKSE.
  14. I will try to look into this today. If you would, could you post the resulting INI files causing the crash? Not always does it produce the same results for everyone.
  15. I use all of those except for New Vegas Reloaded. I am confident that it will be compatible, but if it isn't, it should not be hard to fix.
  16. I haven't updated Skyrim SE for a while, due to SKSE plugins constantly being out of date, and no real content added in the updates last I knew. I never saw shadows on grass as being a problem. I never really noticed much of a performance hit, though I'm sure there is one. It is located in the Skyrim.ini file, not SkyrimPrefs.ini. I have seen tweaks attempting to remove a supposed "black crush" floating popular, but I haven't changed my mod setup accordingly. If there is an invalid tweak in SkyrimPrefs.ini, it should not cause a crash, but merely be ignored by the game.
  17. It is almost impossible to entirely remove Z-fighting on distant mountains. What are your INI settings?
  18. I see you are using the Poor preset. The shadow issue is probably caused by my hacky "Remove Shadows" method. I haven't tested it thoroughly, and that must be a buggy spot. Where is that location? I tried looking for a torch location, and it evidently isn't the same everywhere. As for the beard and hair issues, that could be a buggy texture, but I am thinking it may be a decal problem. Try increasing Decal quantity and see if that helps.
  19. Please post your INI settings.
  20. Skyrim Special Edition's shadow settings are insufficient to produce what you are desiring. You can only get the shadows you want reliably with original Skyrim. You cannot turn down the shadow filtering in Skyrim Special Edition, so the only way to increase the sharpness of the shadows is by increasing the shadow resolution, which tanks performance. For instance, you can increase the value of the shadow resolution to 16384, and the shadows will largely look the way you want, but there still will be the blurring you are seeing that makes it look like shadows are doubling. As for the constantly moving effect that shadows have outdoors, that is because the sun-shadow transitions have been "fixed" to move at direct speed, and since time passes by so fast in Skyrim, if you stop to look, you can see the shadows constantly moving. In original Skyrim, and earlier version of SSE, the sun-shadow transitions could be modified so that you would hardly notice, but that seems to have been "fixed" AKA broken. My current shadow settings that I have grown to like (very performance-friendly, rather soft shadows) Skyrim.ini [Display] fFirstSliceDistance=2800 fShadowDirectionalBiasScale=0.3 SkyrimPrefs.ini [Display] bDrawLandShadows=1 bTreesReceiveShadows=1 ffocusShadowMapDoubleEveryXUnit=450.0000 fInteriorShadowDistance=3000.0000 fShadowDistance=8000.0000 iNumFocusShadow=4 iNumSplits=2 iShadowMapResolution=2048 iShadowMaskQuarter=4 If you want sharper shadows, all you can really do is increase iShadowMapResolution.
  21. You need to install BethINI in its own folder to prevent this from happening. I have a fix planned in the next update.
  22. I just got finished testing out Touring Carriages on Skyrim Special Edition. I did a run from Solitude to Riften, and I didn't experience any pauses whatsoever. I even tested setting it to 200000, and there were no pauses. Where are you getting this information from? When I did my research, I was going by information directly from a BGS developer located here: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1487930-getting-a-lot-of-script-lag-going-over-10000-ms-sometimes/?p=23340131 Also, PS3 and XBOX uses 2000 for this value, and actually 2000 is the default value, and 500 is a Bethesda modification value, so I'm not so sure that this is a problem. Thanks for the detailed bug report. I have created a fix that will be included in the next update.
  23. That is because I use a mathematical formula to set those values for the light fade slider. You would need to set them manually to try other values.
  24. 1. There are multiple types of blurring. Not sure which one you may be referring to, but a picture couldn't hurt. 2. I am not sure that you can entirely do that with the grass fade. You could try setting the fGrassStartFadeDistance lower and increasing fGrassFadeRange to compensate. 3. TerrainManager settings are virtually identical. Read the information in DynDoLOD documentation to gain a good understanding of these settings. 4. fMesh settings do significantly impact the game both visually and performance-wise. I don't know if it reduces the poly count, as I never tested for that. 5. Decals do affect performance, but not terribly badly. Visually it makes a lot of difference. Particles don't seem to impact performance too much in my own testing. There isn't too much benefit to changing it, unless you use a mod that emphasizes them.
  25. Thanks for the information. I had never heard of that before, and I would not be surprised that what I heard is incorrect given the vast amount of misinformation about INI tweaks out there.
