Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

Recommended Posts

EssArrBee,

Last night I finished a play through of F&L in NV and had a great time.

A couple of things I did notice on the way through, that I thought you might be interested in.

Mind you, they could easily be due to my mistakes!!

Stuttering on two occasions - stair cases at camp guardian very severe, and occassional (random) stuttering in the concorse at McCarran airport. These were the only locations.

For many of the DLC interiors (except lonesome road), I saw a blank "nothing" at the transitions between cells? For example, in the SINK and in the Sierra Madre casino, you could not see through the doorways, you could walk through them and attack through them, just not see anything through them. Same occurred in the caves in Zion canyon

In the battle for the dam, in one of the powerstation zones (01 I think) you couldn't see any of the characters, NCR or legion or companions, they were there and fighting. I just fled the next zone and could see every one again.

The game would sometimes freeze on fast travel. This appeared to become more frequent later in the game.

That said, I was easily getting an hour of play between freezes, often 2 or 3.

I hope this helps.

Overall, thoroughly enjoyed the play through, well done!

Unfortunately, stutter is part of this game we can only limit it, not completely remove it. You might do the texture optimization or talk to the author of NVSR, Skyranger. He is a nice fellow and may be able to offer some advice on tweaking NVSR to help you out.

Blank transitions of cells may be out of memory errors. The game sometimes will not crash and just go on without loading anything. Not sure why it would happen in DLC, unless texture optimization for DLC isn't working correctly. I haven't reviewed the DLC so there may need to be a few textures left alone that Kelmych or me don't know about yet. That is if you actually optimized any textures in the first place.

I think everyone has a few freezes on fast travel. I try not to use it, unless I'm testing new mods and without fast travel I can go a bit farther before any crashes. Having a heavily modded FNV just creates problems for the engine and can become a buggy mess, but three hours is pretty good if you save often.

I'd probably need your system specs to know a little more about what might be causing the issues with cell transitions.

missed one, again in Sierra madre casino, non of the keys associated with Vera worked. I used console to obtain required object to get me to next phase. Couldn't get into her backstage dressing room nor the dresser in her hotel room.

That sounds like something YUP was trying to fix is actually broken. You want to report this issue to the YUP thread and see if they know about this. THe readme for that mod is extensive, so if that is supposed to be fixed they may not know it is still broken.

Thanks for the reply, please don't take the post as a complaint, just some information :)

I found these points minor to the flow of the game and got out of camp guardian asap!

I completed DLC texture optimisations as per the guide,

re system specs,

intel i5 4670k 3.4Ghz, no oc

16gb 1600Mhz ram

eVGA GTX770 4g video card

WD blue 1tb HDD, (game installed here)

120G SSD (OS installed here)

I will follow up with YUP, thanks

I'll post on the YUP thread

I like all feedback, even if it is critical. Everything helps me see things from a different perspective and makes the guide more well rounded.

I'll have to go through the DLC after I finish testing the mods I'm currently doing to see if optimization messed up the textures somehow. If it did then me and Kelmych can figure it out. Thanks for the report.

So, I'm back up and running. My character didn't break (atleast no signs so far) when transferring over my let's play.

Cool, Kman. We have auto embed youtube videos on the forum, so just paste the link and it takes care of itself.  :;):

In other news, I'm about done testing NVBII. I can't break it, so that speaks to how good the mod author is. I'm also testing Steve Bison Hotel at the same time. I don't see any major incompatibilities, so fingers crossed. Mike Hancho does good work and his mods seem to always add a lot to the game.

NVR3 adds so many little things to the game, I can't really believe how much work went into it. I guess that's why it took two years. I'm still a little torn between using FCO or NVR3, but the more I play the better NVR3 the more I like it. Cassidy should get her hat back, but that is my only complaint so far.

I still have to do A Thorny Situation, which I guess I could do tonight, so that would add in two more NV Uncut mods. I'm leaving Betsy out till I know the fix for it is going to be implemented and I'll move on to part 7, 8, and Outside Bets.

There is a patch and a replacer. The one you are using is the replacer.

The perk is added by Project Nevada if I'm not mistaken. KFE is just supposed to do the same thing as that perk, but for water bottles instead of the empty Nuka and Sunset bottles. I fill up a lot at the NCR sharecroppers farm because of running back and forth from raider territory, freeside, and Camp McCarren. There are a couple other places with valves, but I forget all of them.

Ok, I might just not have searched enough. I think it might only be the valves with non-radioactive water, since at least the water tower in Novac, as well as a few other places I tried with radioactive water didn't work. But next time I get time to play I'll try a few of the places you mentioned.

So, I'm back up and running. My character didn't break (atleast no signs so far) when transferring over my let's play.

I really like that intro   Keep up making those videos!

So, I'm done testing NVR3, I like it a lot. I still miss some stuff that FCO does, but I'm going to use MadOak's method of deleting the NPC records from the FCOMaster.esm so some of the extra FCO plugins still work and NVR3 can be used. NVR3 has a ton of ITMs and UDRs in both it's plugins and I haven't gotten a response from the author about it yet. I keep bugging them, but until them I haven't noticed anything wrong with cleaning either plugin.

Directions for deleting the NPC records from FCOMaster.esm are going to be easy, so FNVEdit novices shouldn't have to worry much about procedure, it's very simple.

Also, added NVBII and will probably add the NV Uncut mods today, I seem to get some crashes around the Thorn for some reason and want to see what's up before adding A Thorny Situation. Back to work...

I'm back... I've noticed some major performance issues with my modified F&LNV setup so I was going to get ENBoost running to see if that helps (my system is a beast so I know it's not the problem - i7 4790k, 16gb RAM, GTX780Ti), but I can't seem to get enb working with 4gbfnv. I've tried both wrapper and injector versions, and the injector version is working fine with 4gb outside MO, as soon as I try to use it with MO, it just fails. I've tried running the ENBInjector both inside and outside MO, have added the exe to the list in ENBInjector.ini to no avail. Any suggestions? I've heard of performance issues with both 4gb and ENBoost. Should I just run ENBoost?

Also on a slightly more comical note, some of my NCR troopers have no clothes on. Just underwear. Which is mildly amusing, however I imagine, not intended. I did notice the same on some random raiders, but thought that may have been intended, because raiders.

As the LOOT masterlist gets updated with proper tags it will remove the naked people. You'll just need to rerun your bashed patch.

Did you put the d3d9.dll in the exes folder for the wrapper? Did you run the injector.exe before running the game with the injector version?

Yes and yes.

Well, texture optimization helps more that enboost does. Enboost will help mostly for out of memory crashes. I'd bet you could go with 1k exteriors and there would be a bigger performance increase.

I'll have a play around with it and see what I come up with. I actually have a feeling that you could potentially copy the falloutnv.exe out of the exe folder into the main folder and that would make running enb even simpler. From my experience with similar fallout3 large address aware enablers all the 4gb program does is change a flag in the exe file that makes it large address aware, and therefore able to use more RAM. This would remove the need to move the dll file into the exe folder, and possibly eliminate the issues surrounding ENBoost and the 4gbfnv.exe. After moving the exe back into the main folder (after backing up the original falloutnv.exe) you would then run fallout just using the skse loader.Unfortunately I'm at work at the moment so I can't play around with it, but I'll come back and post any results.
