Realistic Lighting Overhaul (by The Realistic Lighting Team)

Recommended Posts

Realistic Lighting Overhaul is the new lighting mod that replaces Realistic Lighting with Customization. It is usable now but not complete. It currently provides interior lighting, some lighting for spells, and a preliminary version of lighting for weather. Updates to provide exterior lighting will be available shortly.

This mods goal is to provide all the lighting fixes needed including flickering and elimination of shadow striping, and to do so without the use of post processing such as ENB. It would eliminate the need for mods such as Relighting Skyrim, Volrath's various lighting fixes, and Enhanced lights and FX. It is intended to be compatible with any Weather mod such as Climates of Tamriel. It includes the Particle Patch by Mindflux.

Now that this replacement of RLwC is finally available, more extensive comparisons among lighting mods and lighting fixes, and combinations of these, can be accomplished.

A lot of detail is available in the description page; this is just a summary of some key features.

Now compatible with Enhanced lights and FX. Also now recommends the Skyrim Particle Patch by Mindflux.

4.0.5 (27/1/13)

- Added Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Imagespace/Lighting/Lighting Template Support for Dungeons and remaining interiors.

- Made a version of RLO without any cell changes whatsoever - this now makes RLO 100% compatible with Enhanced Lights and FX. Only use one version of the mod!

- Added Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Dungeons + Dungeons for ELnFX - This is a temporary esp which will add RLO lighting without full mod features as of yet. Does not alter any cells and is compatible with Enhanced Lights and FX.

- Added Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Minor Cities & Town Interiors + for ELnFX esp which will add RLO lighting without full mod features as of yet. Does not alter any cells and is compatible with Enhanced Lights and FX.

- Added Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Major City Interiors for ELnFX. Does not contain any cell changes. This is compatible with Enhanced Lights and FX.

- Fixed an issue with the placement of FXfireWithEmbersLogs01 in Whiterundrunkenhuntsman

Where it is stated and who recommends Skyrim Particle Patch? The author?

I can't find it.

In the mod's Description under Unofficial Lighting Patch heading:

There are dozens of mods released that fix all sorts of issues with dimming lights, mesh connection problems, shadow striping, lighting template fog issues, flickering and a whole host more. Every single esp in RLO is basically an Unofficial Lighting Patch. We fix issues that affect the lighting and also include the wonderful Particle Patch by Mindflux. This means you will no longer need shadow striping fixes mod, removed interior fog mods, mods that fix lighting placements, missing lights and so forth.

So no need for the patch any more.

He has always recommended the meshes and they were in the first release of the mod. This is what he had to say about it just minutes ago

"It is still part of the mod, its just optional because not everyone wanted it."

If you go back to like page one or two on the forums or the last two pages on the mod page you can see he has always recommended it.

I am actually curious what the step team thinks about this mod.

In less than a week or 2, this mod has gained a tremendous following that many in the community have stated to be the best lighting overhaul in nexus.

It also gained 1000 plus endorsements in less than a week and also was complimented by the nexus creator himself darkone.

I have been reading in the comment section and personally pmed the author and have gotten some positive reactions to this mod.

Many have stated, that this mod surpasses the current RCRN and is a successor to Realistic Lighting with Customization that is compatible with Climates of Tameril.

So basically you get the amazing weather system of climates, but also get the best of the interior/exterior lighting with no post processing. It also states that there is little to no fps loss compared to rcrn which has a noticeable fps hit.

Just by these little tidbits about this mod, for me personally I cant see how this mod doesnt replace RCRN as the main lighting system. I understand that you guys are going to recommend many post processing options, but this one seems like a no brainer.

Anyway, just want to see the thoughts of hte step team and the community regarding their thoughts on this mod.

RCRN has no FPS hits unless you're on an old system. Look here. I've been a RCRN user (combined with SkyRealism) since I've been modding. I've tried all of the major lighting/weather mods and RCRN was my winner every time. With that said, I've been testing both RCRN and Realistic Lighting Overall (RLO) with 2.2.1. I have a few complaints about both...

RCRN is great at natural lighting; however, I don't like how it thickens some interior fogs (Dragonsreach) and it hazes distant views with what looks like more fog in certain exterior lighting.

RLO, I'm been fairly impressed with so far. It fixes the fog issues that RCRN has; however, has a few of it's own faults. One being some of he lighting from some fires/lanters is too yellow (this could be the combination of the ENB though; I haven't tested that yet) and the other is during certain exterior lighting (cloudy for example) the whole exterior lighting is dimmed. This is just a bit weird because it doesn't feel "cloudy" but rather just "muted" lighting. I should note that this is caused by the old 3.5 weathers though. I'm hoping they fix this muted exterior lighting when they get the new weathers up.

I've only been testing for a few hours, but thus far I'm leaning more towards RLO beating out RCRN. More testing is needed though.

EDIT: I wanted to share this shot with you guys:

RLO only  >> SkyRealism Cinematic with RLO

The second shot with SkyRealism is just stunning to me and it looks even better in-game.
