Not a bug per-se with S.T.E.P. but just a warning - shot across the bow. Unless MO/MO2 get's patched when Win 10s Fall update drops MO will crash in certain tasks (FNIS is one of them)even with the dx9 memory fix going in as there have been some updates to the kernel, it's a verified bug in MO Tannin speaks about it here. https://github.com/TanninOne/modorganizer/issues/1124  :/ Time to go back to dual booting :P

  1. Disable Automatic updates in Steam -> Skyrim Properties -> Updates tab by setting it to [Do not automatically update this game].

Should be: [Only update this game when I launch it].

Thanks.

I'm still running Windows 7 and this is why. There has been absolutely no good reason to update from what I've seen of Windows 10. Now I'm extra glad that I decided to stay on Windows 7.

If ther  is any uncertainty, uninstall and then reinstall Skyrim from scratch to this point.

Also, the image showing as Figure 1 isn't correct:

1. It contains the bashed patch esp

2. It's missing the DLC esps and BSAs

3. Textures.log shouldn't be there

4. The description should read: These are the only files that should appear in skyrim/Data/.

5. The Data folder also contains 3 subfolders: Interface, Strings and Video - you may like to mention those as well for clarity.

Just a thought - to save overhead here and ensure consistency, why not just remove the paragraph under "Establish a Clean Skyrim Install" and link to the Revert Skyrim to Vanilla section.

According to MS there may be an upcoming fix in 16289+ before the fall release so next week will tell the tale. Until then, I'm dual booting. Already have Win 7 set up on a 500gb SSD :P

That guide is really old and likely needs a good run-through by one of the staff to spruce it up. However, I did correct a few spelling errors.

Fixed. Thanks.

Example setup image: file path for the Skyrim INI points to skyrim.ini, while the images on SPM's mod page point to skyrimprefs.ini.

The images at the top of the mod pages are just for looks. It's just a small gallery of images typically pulled from the author's page. As such, I've updated them to remove the image with the erroneous setup as to not confuse users.

I seen that on the issue tracker. It good to have users in the modding community in high places. Especially so high up they can submit bug fixes the MS Devs. ^_^

For Disease Descriptions it says:

STEP Extended Patch users DO NOT need to install this mod. For Version, select only Vanilla (unless you use Realistic Needs and Diseases), and for Official DLCs, select both Dawnguard and Dragonborn.

But this isn't a Core mod.  Wouldn't the above only make sense if it was a Core mod?

You might like to note in the notes for Wiseman303s Flora Fixes that the SMIM patch can be merged with the main file.

This is always user preference so there is no real need to say it.

Greg is correct. There are users who do not use the STEP Patches so the instructions are written for them.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've run across one that I'm not sure has been addressed before regarding "Hearthfire Extended by Kinaga" on the wiki page https://wiki.step-project.com/Hearthfire_Extended#Recommendations

The STEP instructions have the following warning:

Warning: Do NOT sort the masters for this mod! The author states that doing so will break the mod. (<--I didn't see that in the description page.) The author will take of this issue for the users for the next release (no ETA). However, you may clean the one ITM from this mod without issue.

This warning is a tad confusing. Are we supposed to deactivate this Mod, or the .esp when we run LOOT? Or is it a warning against sorting it in the Left column of MO, if MO presents a warning to sort it in the left column?

Also, the wording of what the author intends to do is a little confusing as well. Probably just some typos, but it muddles up the warning even more.

Could you clarify this warning for us?
