If I DDSopt my textures, can I skip the HRDLC in step 2.F. ?
EssArrBee replied to KiloWatts's question in DDSopt Support
You can depending on how much VRAM you have or how close you get to the 3.1Gb limit. I'd recommend to use the Hybrid + Vanilla normal maps unless you optimized the HRDLC normal maps to be 1k or lower. -
Starac used to say that people that made textures from scratch were the ones that were doing it wrong. He was special somehow because he took someone else's work and layered his own on top of it. Anyways, lets bug Cabal about finishing Whiterun (and maybe Daedric armor?), then we can discuss our feelings about touchy modders. I was wondering if the area that leads up to the jail is a mesh problem since the stones stop blending. Here's what I mean:

Skyrim Crash/freeze every 20 min
EssArrBee replied to 404NoNameFound's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I shortened the post up a bit. I'm not really sure about your load order though, nothing jumped out at me, someone that uses SkyRe would be better at that. -
Is there a way to add categories for personal use to MO? I want to label the mods like the guides do instead of the way they come by default.

In WB pull up the tab with all your esp/esm and click on the mod you want to tag. Then in the bottom right corner there is a box that says tags, right click on the box and add the relev tag. Remember that relev means that the mod takes existing items in the leveled lists and changes them, so those changes get inherited to the bashed patch.

The best part of SRO was the Dawnguard update and I really liked what Starac did with Markarth, but after using Cabal's textures quite a bit yesterday I'm ready to say that I like most it. I'm still not crazy about the stone path, to green, the buildings the that have the hey roofs could get a redo, and I'm still undecided about the stone stairs. I still want to see about those last 20 or so textures Cabal wants to upload, maybe that will help it look even better.

installing based on skyrim revisited but using wrye
EssArrBee replied to barry's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yes BAIN ready installers work just fine with MO, it detects a bunch of different installers. If you do STEP use that install order, if you use SR then use the that install order. -
SKYRIMLE Hectrol CAVES DELUXE HighRes Retex (by Hectrol)
EssArrBee replied to thalastwon's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
After looking at your compares tech, I think Snow and Rocks is the best and closest to vanilla. I do have to disagree that Beauty of Skyrim is even close to vanilla though, just look at the first Mines set of compares on the right side of the images, way to far from vanilla IMO. Beauty does look really well done on it's own and the colors are great, but I think that the shapes it conveys are not really matching an enhanced vanilla look. Also, water doesn't determine the smoothness of a cave formation, the mineralogy does. I've been in some pretty nasty places carved out by natural springs or shallow seas because of the granite and rhyolite. I hate granite unless it is made into my kitchen counter tops. -
interesting, i didnt know that. I bought skyrim when it came out, but I didnt stop playing/modding oblivion and switch to skyrim until january/february of this year .. and by the time i found SRO it was blacklisted. So ive never really known much about it, its origins or its author. But yeah some of the textures in the landscape section or dirt cliffs were seemingly identical to vanilla, and for some reason i used to think that most of his/her work was done from scratch or heavily modified from vanilla. guess i was wrong :) You could try asking Rafuel for a greybeard robes retex, but I haven't seen him around for a while. He had finished all the Dragonborn robes, the archmage, and was working on the mage's robes before disappearing. Not sure now if we will get anymore out of him, shame to cuz he did great work.

On the GDO note it says, "No NOT clean with TES5Edit. ITMs/UDRs are intended by the author." Pretty sure that's 'Do NOT'. Also, why are there still BCFs for Book of Silence? It comes with a wizard now.

I'd maybe like to see a couple more cities next, but Cabal should finish the BoS textures for Skyrim. I could see skipping the DLC to move on to something else for a while, I imagine that only working on weapons and armor is a grind this far down the road. SRO was pretty much textures layered on top of the vanilla textures to make it appear that it was in the same style as the game, or as close to it as Starac could get.

I don't think I agree. The important point is not whether it's true to Bethesda's intent or not but rather whether the result (in context in game) is better or worse at conveying the style the user wants. If I want a shiny clean high fantasy look and these textures provide it then I should use it no matter what Bethesda's intent was, similarly if i want a dark brooding decrepit look and the textures provide that. Of course users all have different desires, so to be effective a mod review should point out how well the mod goes in achieving a particular atmosphere, not just how true to to Bethesda's original intent a mod it. (Remember if reviews for mods for consideration in SR and SEP packs are to be included here then judging how well a mod fits to the most restrictive definition of STEP is not the principal point of mod reviews here.)right, but im not talking about any user, im talking about STEP. I thought ive read many times how STEP is about enhancing the game without deviating too far from the game's original intent. perhaps i misinterpreted the goals. I only can give my 2 cents as a 'member' of this community.. whether or not my opinion is considered by those in charge is up to them EDIT: and by no means was i suggesting that this mod was too far from vanilla. i was merely pointing out that, in general, we try to find a balance, thats all. And in fact, if anything i was advocating FOR this pack in response to the post before mine that was indicating the textures looked too 'new looking' or something along those lines Looks like we might have to throw up a bunch of compares to start really getting a sense of what this mod really changes. I feel like the certain areas are spot on for what STEP advocates at enhancing the vanilla feel of the game, even more so than say SHD. That being the Whiterun houses and Jorvaskar too (which is really well done, just look at it from the Skyforge). Maybe a couple other parts are a bit outside that STEP definition like the interior of Dragonsreach and maybe the stone paths change the colors a bit to much. It'd be hard to just leave this mod out as long as SRO is without a host site.

SKYRIMLE Use both Xbox 360 controller AND Keyboard SIMULTANEOUSLY
EssArrBee replied to youtoo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
When you use the multi-tap mode and the consolidate loot/harvest/talk check box, then you don't need to remap anything, just leave them as 'esc'. Horse inventory just walk up and double tap 'activate', loot/harvest/talk while riding double tap 'activate' (while not in combat, activate in combat is fast dismount). -
I was using this last night with the vanilla textures and just a bout everything he hasn't done was not sticking out in any way. You can tell the difference with the walls right away ans the stones are smaller, but they don't look like they are a different art style. The interior of Dragonsreach is a bit different though, the wood is a richer brown color and it looks amazing, much more so than SHD, and the colors pop even better than SRO. I'd hesitate to say that overall it is far from the artistic style of the vanilla game, but of course it has a darker look as most of Cabal's work does. As for the roofs, house exteriors, and stone paths, I don't think there may be a better option. I imagine with something like TPC this Whiterun would just look amazing.

Discussion thread: aMidianBorn Whiterun by CaBaL Wiki Link Just gonna throw this up here since it's probably going to be essential soon enough. The pictures look ridiculous, as good as the work Neil MC did FNV. EDIT: Forgot to mention they are 1k textures. Accepted for 2.2.9 Extended

I don't think it has an issue with STEP, but you may check the mod page for further info. I can't imagine it working with existing saves though and the intro can be such a chore almost two years after release.

If you go to the Steam website and look at the two post cards on the right of the daily deal the one in the back is tomorrows deal. You can't see it, but if you click on the image of the back card and drag it to your address bar it will tell you which game is on sale next. Here's the image of tomorrows deal: Â Something to Shout About! I'm guessing that this means $15-20 for the LE. Also, XCOM for $10 and the GTA games are all on sale, complete pack for $12.50 is a steal.

SKYRIMLE Use both Xbox 360 controller AND Keyboard SIMULTANEOUSLY
EssArrBee replied to youtoo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Why does Convenient Horses require the esc key? I use the multi-tap mode with a controller and it does all the CH stuff quite well. My problem was with the Dual Wield Parrying, I had to figure something else out by editing the controls text file to get what I wanted. -
I'm thinking that someone may be able to build a controlled method of purging the cell buffer with an extension. Think of it as using pcb in the console without having to do it yourself. I'm not sure if you can request data from the cell buffer on size, but if you can then when it hits a certain percentage of it's max just purge it and boom you're good. It isn't a perfect idea, though we are still just now getting a handle on where this problem actually occurs. I'm sure someone will figure something out.

Anyone recommend Dark Souls? It's only $7.50 for the prepare to die edition. Also, I recommend Mark of the Ninja for $3.75 and Sleeping Dogs for $6.24. It's day 7 of the sale so might be last day to grab some stuff.

I've done that, but I'm getting some missing masters for mods that have the DLC esms as masters.

Is there some special procedure with SkyProc patchers and v99? I've been trying to setup MO to see what all the hoopla is about and I'm liking everything so far, but SkyProc is the only thing I can't figure out. I've tried moving them to to data directory instead of virtual one, tried updating to 32 bit Java. What else is there that I'm missing?

SKYRIMLE Hectrol CAVES DELUXE HighRes Retex (by Hectrol)
EssArrBee replied to thalastwon's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Well, caves and mines are basically the same thing. They both happen to be built into mountains for the most part, so them being similar isn't a big deal. -

No need to correct double posts, one of the mods will be by to delete it. Anyways, I'm really partial to Hectrol still, but Beauty of Skyrim is quite good. I'd be happy with either of those.
