GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
EssArrBee replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Has anyone tried out the mod optimization page I wrote up? I need feedback on how well it works, if anything looks really crappy after optimization. I'm mostly worried about the body replacers (Type3, Roberts) and Millenia's WRP and WotNM not optimizing properly. Also, does performance increase across the board? For me interiors were never a problem, but exteriors were, like the Strip, Freeside, and Novac. I got between 5-10 FPS in those areas going from 2k to 1k textures. I might even go with 512 normals to pick up a few more FPS. Give me the plugin and I'll look at it. -

If you ported it over from Adam then just make it look like the Adam PN patch helmets. Load both in FNVEdit and make sure they have the same effects. -

What mod is it? Good idea, but not sure I like the approach the author took with it. Black Mesa Research Facility? No. Pet store? Yes. -
Why do mod authors choose RAR over 7z?
EssArrBee replied to DoubleYou's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I have WinRAR license. Got a lot of stuff I didn't need while working for the Gov't. I have licenses for all kinds of custom software from IBM, Redhat, Oracle.... all the big guys. I have never used most of it, probably 99% of it including the WinRAR license. Tax dollars at work. I think that this is the whole compression vs container argument. Usually something reserved for the blackhole that is the Videohelp.com forums since it matter more there than anywhere else. You see children, file transfers weren't as efficient when our systems lacked bandwidth and power, so we had to come up with a system that allowed us to only transfer things in pieces, so RAR came out with the ability to split up archives into multiple parts so if one part was incomplete then it could be redownloaded. That has mostly been solved with much faster download speeds and CPUs that don't take an hour to decompress a videogame, so those split RAR files are a thing of the past. RAR became very popular and because of that people still use it. Creature comforts or something. -

This is not true, use FNVEdit and follow the instructions available on the PN nexus page. I made the PN/ADAM Combined patch with it. -

Those BSAs only have a could couple textures each. They can be skipped without harm. EDIT: WTF autocorrect? -
I thought bash tags were on the bottom right. Also, if they aren't there then right click the Bash tags box on the bottom right and add them yourself.

X,Y,Z subrecords are the position of the objects in the cell or worldspace. Z position is the vertical axis, so it keep objects from being trapped under floors or above ceilings. I don't remember off the top of my head if that subrecord is mergeable with Bashed Patch but you'd have to the check the Advanced Readme for Wrye Bash. NVEC has tons of its own fixes, so it may have moved the object to fix its position and YUP may have done the same, but they just move them into a different place. Neither fix is really right or wrong as long as it done. -

It is the same process pretty much. You can even choose to extract the BSA straight the working directorymod extracted folder with MO. -
I'm waiting a couple days for some mods to have a bit of time to update with the latest UP fixes. Then I'll update the STEP Patches and make necessary changes to the guide. I only actually saw a couple changes to the STEP Extended patch, but none to the Core patch, so it is just a minor update. Usually Arthmoor is pretty good about updating his mods with the latest UP fixes within a week of release, so that might also require some more changes to the STEP Patches. For the time being you can remove cultist mask decap fix without issue.

Priority is done by the order in the left pane. MO figures out which one loads last and makes it visible in the virtual directory. -
Is the perk per level tweak set to 1=.5 or 2=.5?
-
I think this video is from Gamescon. Looks like Prototype with swords and axes.
-
No, do not remove any plugins. Wrye Bash patches certain records in the plugins, but not all of them. Mostly it patches the leveled lists, so if a mod adds items or changes the stats from items, then they all get added to the Bashed Patch in an attempt to merge all the content.
-
They don't exist yet. Accidentally added the to the step patches thinking EBQO would be updated already. I have access to some of the stuff from the unreleased version because I made a lot of patches for it. It was just an error on my part. I don't think it will affect a lot not having them.
-
I've had an issue like this. Try resaving it as a jpeg.
-
There would be thousands of possible combinations for that. For Extended probably millions of combinations. I would never finish getting to all of them before an update would be necessary and I'd have to start all over. Plus, the separate patches are already provided by the mods that need patches. I'll update after a couple days to allow for modders to update their mods if they are going to do so.
-
Yeah, I may have added support for EBQO and those mods thinking it would get updated, but it didn't. If you load the EBQO and those mods then there will be a couple Quest records that need to get forwarded. Umm... basically just forward the records from CRF and AMB to the whatever generic patch you have or the combined plugin.

Cant run fallout new Vegas with mod organizer OH NOO!

Does the UI mod you have installed work with Czech version? I don't know how all that stuff works and if the characters from language are all the same as English. -

Kelmych brought it my attention that I put the Vanilla Extracted folder as the folder to extract mods into in Step 4. It should be Mod Extracted. Also, NVAC is under review for moderation. Does anyone know why or what happened? Queue doesn't seem like the type of guy to steal code. -
They only show if you have the corresponding mods installed. It purposely checks for the plugins or it just doesn't even ask you. I have a newer version of EBQO that isn't released yet since I was helping to make patches for it when I did the STEP Patches so they might not be released yet. Probably just one of those whoops moments that I didn't even realize what I had done. So, you aren't using Cutting Room Floor and AMB Content Addon, correct? Those are the two mods you need to remove dependence. THe EBQO stuff are not masters, so they don't need to be deleted. Those records can be left in the STEP Patches without messing up anything else. You just want to delete the records from the STEP Patch that exist in the CRF and AMB mods.

DROPPED Main Font Replacement (by Valistar)
EssArrBee replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I guess whatever language that is is fine, but there is no replacement characters for anything that ins't an English letter or number. So any language with different characters will have problems. -

Try opening the <MO>overwrite folder in windows explorer and moving the files manually to the <MO>modsuHUD folder. If it doesn't work, then it will tell you why. I'm guessing windows got a pissy about something and permissions changed for one of the files or folders and it messing you up. I've had permission issues sometimes and always chalked it up to Windows gremlins. -

Hopefully, when I implement New Vegas Redesigned 3 it will get much better. Fallout games have had this problem for a while and body replacers seem to exacerbate the problem. @Everyone: I finally took a little time and made a rough, rough draft of the DDSopt guide. https://wiki.step-project.com/User:EssArrBee/Fear_and_Loathing_Texture_Optimization I'm probably going to clean it up a bit and work on the formatting, but it's all there for the most part. I listed the body mods for texture optimization on a preliminary basis, but I may move them to an optional section if they don't work out. I haven't finalized anything yet and didn't have time to test if Roberts and Type3 can be optimized. I imagine if they are kept in a lossless compression format that fidelity will be fine in the normals. Also, consider skipping Poco Bueno if you need to reduce the size of exteriors. You may just want to switch Poco and NMCs around so NMC loads last. It optimizes quite well, while Poco seems to get washed out and blurry. Look at the sidewalk when going from 2k->1k to see what I mean. That will let the 1k textures from from NMC overwrite the exterior stuff from Poco and everything else from Poco will be fine. If you have greater than 2GB of VRAM disregard this for color maps, only normals should be reduced in size to save that precious VRAM.
