Most of the recent Yukichigai fixes are already in the guide. I'll add the vault 106 fix and the Pitt fix. The Updated Unofficial Fallout patch has some of the Yukichigai fixes and will be adding others in the next update. When the next update is posted I'll remove the individual fixes from the guide that were incorporated into this update.

I find this Semantic Media Page on formatting very helpful since I rarely remember all the character combinations. Perhaps the STEP wiki guide should include pointers to a few pages about the simpler parts of SMW that almost everyone uses.

Thanks. I added it to the Fallout 3 guide, with a few modifications for FO3. I tested it using the enblocal.ini parameters you showed, and it seems to be working fine.

The "Optimizing Vanilla BSAs" tab in the BSA guide includes the pointer to the thread that fireundubh mentioned. Perhaps this pointer should also be on the last tab.

It always makes these folders (Mod DDS, Mod TMP, Mod TSN) while sorting the textures. It deletes them before it finishes; they are temporary folders. If they are still around when the processing finished there is a problem.

Currently it's only here on STEP. Which sites did you use when releasing information? I'm not sure how many people are playing Fallout 3; it's probably dependent on having Fallout 3 GOTY in a Steam sale at an especially attractive price.

My intention has been to use the Roberts body since that what Fear and Loathing uses, and to use the Breezes mod only for the clothes it adds (which are compatible with both bodies). I need to change a few of the instructions in the guide so this happens properly.

I thought I had eliminated all the Fallout version errors but as always there are more errors. It's fixed now.

Clear and Present Danger - A guide for modding Fallout 3 This thread is for reporting problems when using the "Clear and Present Danger guide for Fallout 3". This includes errors in the guide, problems in following the guide, problems with the mods included in the guide, and problems running Fallout 3 when following this guide. Please post any problems such as these in this forum. It's also best to post them here vs. sending me a PM. Often I won't have an answer but the other readers of this forum might have a good answer.

Clear and Present Danger - A guide for modding Fallout 3 This thread is the feedback thread for the Fallout 3 guide that complements EssArrBee's "Fear and Loathing in New Vegas" guide for modding Fallout New Vegas. While Fallout 3 is older, some friends of mine who never played it got interested when they recently bought Fallout 3 GOTY at a Steam sale. I said I would provide them some information on mods and utilities they might want to try. After that, well ... it kinda grew to be a bit more. I looked in detail at the "Fear and Loathing in New Vegas" guide and found to my surprise that many of the better mods available for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas were very similar, and that there were also many new mods for Fallout 3 that weren't available for Fallout 3 the last time I played it in 2010. Since I really liked the style of the "Fear and Loathing in New Vegas" guide, I made a copy and used it as the starting point for the Fallout 3 guide. A lot of the "Fear and Loathing in New Vegas" guide text and structure has been preserved. It is intended to include a set of mods in each category that were a reasonably representative set of the better mods currently available for the associated category, including ones that I (or other participants in this thread) had used and liked the last time playing Fallout 3. I also wanted to include some mods I had never used that seemed quite interesting and worth trying. Of course, since it is an evolving guide there is a lot of flexibility to add and remove mods in the list. There has been a reasonable amount of testing of Fallout 3 with the entire set of mods in the guide loaded, but I wouldn't characterize the testing as extensive. There is still a lot of testing of some of the optional texture especially for clutter and weapons. EsssArrBee has been working lately on evaluating exterior textures choices to try to come with a set with good quality and acceptable performance; this also needs to happen for Fallout 3. Since Fallout 3 is older it may be easier to get good performance; the resolution of the textures and meshes for Fallout 3 are usually not as high as those for more recent games. Many of the initial mods added to the guide are the Fallout 3 versions of mods in the "Fear and Loathing in New Vegas" guide; this simplifies some of the testing needed. There is more detail on this at the beginning of the guide itself. I wanted to have a theme for the guide that is closely related to the Washington DC area, to the Fallout 3 storyline, and to the overall set of Fallout games. My choice was "Clear and Present Danger". Fallout 3 is much less whimsical and more serious than the other 3 Fallout games (and IMO even more dangerous from the outset than the recent Elder Scrolls games), and the Jack Ryan series of books/movies have at least a few good relevant quotes; I'm open to suggestions on supplemental themes. I continue to work on updating the LOOT mod cleaning instructions and Bash tags for the mods in the guide to include in the LOOT masterfile. Since Fallout 3 is old, many mods have ITM and UDR errors shown in FO3Edit. Bash tags are critical in providing the data Wrye Flash needs to provide compatibility among the varied mods included in the guide. With the proper Bash tags and existing compatibility patch mods, it doesn't look like much will be needed in any manual merge patches - at least among the mods in the guide that are not marked as optional. Wrye Bash is also being expanded and evolved to include the Fallout 3 and NV games, and eill eventually replace Wrye Flash for use with the Fallout games. This is the feedback thread, so look and see what you like and don't like and what's missing and comment. Fortunately here on the STEP forums there are always lots of useful comments and feedback. If you have troubleshooting questions or comments please enter these in the "Support" thread. If you want to suggest mods to add to the guide please enter these in the overall STEP "Mods" thread, using the Fallout 3 tag to identify the mod. I'll update this post as the guide moves forward, adding comments on some of the issues that seem to be of most interest.

GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
Kelmych replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
I like to optimize them anyway since it is easy to do when optimizing all the vanilla textures, and I can compare the (hopefully better) replacement textures with the optimized ones to see if the replacements are noticeably better. -
Why do mod authors choose RAR over 7z?
Kelmych replied to DoubleYou's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Like DoubleYou, I prefer 7-zip for compression performance and ease of use. I don't own a winrar license since I always preferred 7z once it came out. -
GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
Kelmych replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
If you're trying to use both a YUP and NVEC I'd suggest having YUP plugin load after the NCEC one so it overrides the changes that are common but let's NVEC unique changes to be used. -
GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
Kelmych replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Oops. Update.bsa does include textures and the screenshots are correct. The folder has been added to the guide text. Thanks for reporting this. In addition, the batch file contents were added to the list of files in the Working Directory to make it clearer where to extract them. -
The vanilla BSAs are smaller when they are BSAs vs. loose files. The HRDLC only replace a portion of the vanilla textures; there are many that are not replaced. You could possibly move the HRDLC BSAs to another drive after you create the optimized versions, but I wouldn't suggest removing any of the Skyrim - xxx.bsa files or the DLC BSAs.

Mod Organizer and Skyrim on separate drives
Kelmych replied to tehpandemic's question in Mod Organizer Support
I have Skyrim installed on an SSD, and MO on an HDD. However, I have the Mod Organizermods directory on the SSD since those files are the files that are provided to Skyrim using the VFS. MO allows configuring the location of the mods, downloads, and webcache directories. -
GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
Kelmych replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
The line in the FNV Quickstart tab of the DDSopt guide with instructions on extracting the batch files into the "Working folder" is in the paragraph just below the screenshot figure of the contents of "Vanilla Extracted". -
Unfortunately like you I've seen this happen infrequently but often enough that it is quite annoying. I've also occasionally seen these unresolved references in mods themself when they are updated.

Cant run fallout new Vegas with mod organizer OH NOO!
Kelmych replied to hamburgerhelperman's question in Mod Organizer Support
Did you run the fallout launcher under MO or by clicking it in the Fallout New Vegas folder? You may need to run it once from the launcher outside of MO. -
DROPPED Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized (by Vano89)
Kelmych replied to Farlo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I wouldn't say the textures in this mod have better optimization than that provided by DDSopt, but they were chosen to have reasonable quality in spite of reduced texture size. The lower VRAM usage is a result of using smaller textures. The textures in this mod are not the same as those produced by DDSopt optimization of the vanilla HRDLC textures, but for some systems they can provide a better trade off of quality and VRAM usage when limited VRAM is available. -
ACCEPTED aMidianBorn Book of Silence (by CaBaL)
Kelmych replied to EisDrache's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
The table of STEP mods in the DDSopt guide also recommends that CaBal's mods should not be optimized unless it is necessary for texture size reduction. As Aiyen mentions, reducing texture size on textures that are highly optimized by the original author can noticeable reduce texture quality. -
DROPPED Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized (by Vano89)
Kelmych replied to Farlo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
It depends on how much VRAM is available on the graphics card and what versions of other Conflicting Graphics STEP mods are used (the HRDLC and this mod have less effect on VRAM use than the exterior textures from the Conflicting Graphics mods such as SRO and Serious HD). When ENBoost and the latest SKSE are used to increase the effective VRAM available to the game, the guidelines in the instructions for this mod are likely to be a little conservative. You might want to try 2 versions of installation instructions from the guidelines and see whether the less conservative one works sufficiently well. If you use instructions that involve a mix of textures from this mod and from the HRDLC then it would be useful to use optimized HRDLC textures vs. the pure vanilla ones. -
DROPPED Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized (by Vano89)
Kelmych replied to Farlo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
There are threads in Mod Anthology for all mods that are in the STEP guide. I'm not sure I know what you mean by using the Bethesda Hi-Res Optimized mod with manually optimized textures. The textures in this mod don't need any further optimization with DDSopt. Is that what you meant by manually optimized textures?
