raycrios Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 A couple weeks ago a Merging tool with much better GUI and ability to fix formids in a plugins with scripts (uses PEX decompiler) was released to public beta. Highly recommended! https://forum.step-project.com/topic/9082-wip-merge-plugins-standalone-public-beta/ Edited: it's not a script, it's a standalone tool. Sorry for missinfo.
oqhansoloqo Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Cool. Question though - how will this benefit the guide? Can this merge script do the job better than the current merge script mentioned and used in the guide?
raycrios Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 Cool. Question though - how will this benefit the guide? Can this merge script do the job better than the current merge script mentioned and used in the guide?AFAIK, it's a replacement for the old script which will be discontinued. Functionally-wise, as I understand, this script might be able to correctly merge plugins with scripts. But didn't test it myself yet.
oqhansoloqo Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 As far as I know, all of the mods that EssArrBee has merged in the guide work just fine, as they are, merged with the tool listed in the guide. Being that EssArrBee has not been much interested in working on the guide lately (I don't blame him - these things get old after a while and you have to move on to other things at some point), I doubt he will be modifying the guide any time soon (unless he decides to, of course...) in order to switch modding tools when the current tool works as intended and is fully described in how to install and use. Likewise, I'd be reluctant to switch tools listed in the guide when the tool currently in the guide works fine - as far as I know - for merging the mods listed in the guide. It is good to know about this new tool though, because it may be helpful to some other users who may wish to deviate from the guide and do their own custom mergings. Thank you for mentioning the tool here, I'm just not sure if it's worth spending the effort to change the guide to it though.
Adonis_VII Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) I wouldn't say change merging instructions to the standalone necessarily at this stage, but it may be helpful to add information about in the the "Note:" section under the script as an alternative, similar to how EssArrBee mentions that manual Merge Patch can be used instead of Bash, but doesn't support that method himself. EDIT: grammar Edited October 7, 2015 by Adonis_VII
EssArrBee Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I have no plans on changing it until the beta is a little further along. It's pretty stable right now, but since Mator doesn't exactly make the merge script with FNV in mind, I will wait a little longer. I'm keeping an eye on stuff like that even if I'm not around. I'll probably be around more soon.
hishutup Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I dont really know what its lacking for FNV.If anything its definitely better than the script. I doubt MP will ever be able to handle and compile FNV, Ob, FO3, MW scripts because the compiled data is contained in the plugin and there is no CLI compilerMP should be able to already handle scripts like it does for Sk Anyhow, if you have any idea let mator know or inform me and I can add it to the asana project
raycrios Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 Tried this merge tool and must say it's way better. First of all it's much easier to use, it integrates with MO very well. It will check for errors and it will not merge mods with errors. Finally, it can recompile scripts, fixing references in them, so you can merge mods with scripts.
