Audio Overhaul for Skyrim 2 not working.

Question

Posted

I just switched to MO the other day and all my mods seem to be working fine with the exception of the Audio Overhaul for Skyrim 2. I tried installing to a completely clean install of skyrim with no other mods, and it still didn't work so it's not a conflicts issue, I checked the data tap and the sound files appear under Sound - fix, the latter of which I believe to be made by the mod.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what the problem is, have anyone else encountered similar problems?

Ok the only things I can see that are different are the versions of the codecs you have installed compared to mine.

That in itself isn't an issue since I take it you have Win 8.1 installed and I have Win 7.

There have been other oddities reported with how Win 8.1 works with some tools, like MO, but I wouldn't have thought audio codecs would be one.

I'm still not convinced that is the issue though. If it was I would've assumed more problems would have surfaced before this one.

I can think of ways that might get around this situation but I'm loathe to suggest them without 1st-hand access to the system.

Not much else I can add I'm afraid, sorry.

I too am running short of other suggestions.

Could it be a problem with the DirectX install, and that's why VLC plays the sounds and Skyrim doesn't?

This of course doesn't cover the fact that loose sound files extracted from one of the Bethesda .esm archives does work, while sound files from other mods don't.

Could it have something to do with the archive section in the inis?

Im just throwing anything out anything I can think of.

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Invalidation.bsa, Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
SInvalidationFile=
Maybe try a BSA

Yeah what I meant was, what am I screen shoting?

Edit: I've found a temporary solution to the problem. I simply install the sound mod manually to the Skyrim Data folder, and then launch the game through MO, this seems to fix the problem.

I wouldn't give up because most of are still curious what the solution is.

What if someone else has the same issue?

We would have to go through the same process with them.

Hence why I used the word temporary, but I ran out ideas three pages ago, so I'm pretty much relying on input from you guys.

Well, AOS has always supplied loose sound files, and there's no intention to change that, so honestly, I don't see how a system not being able to read sounds from BSAs would result in AOS' sounds not playing as well.

Since installing the sound files manually to the /Skyrim/Data folder worked, it seems the issue involves the mechanics of MO in some way. But I'm still at a loss for any further ideas on the reason why this is happening.

Please do the following:

  1. Make a profile with only Skyrim and AOS active and run it.
  2. Once at the menu, open the console (~) and type saveini and press enter. Then exit.
  3. Paste the contents of the newest Mod Organizer log file (not ui log) on Pastebin and give the link.
  4. Also, go into the ModOrganizer\profiles\name-of-the-profile-you-used and paste on Pastebin all the files in there and give the links with their names.
  5. Finally, go into the ModOrganizer\overwrite folder and find the INI file created from the console and paste its contents on Pastebin and give the link.
