rootsrat Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Nexus Link Retexture of pillows... not much more to say. Not sure if the pillows retextures are currently provided by STEP to be honest and I'm unable to check (ramsticks RMA in progress...) so if anyone could provide some info that would be great.
Aiyen Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 This retexture makes me sleepy... Not much to say about it really... vanilla is low res meh, and this is a quite decent upscaled version. Only real issue I could imagine with it is if someone prefer a bit more blur to their textures since it is rather sharp by default.
DoubleYou Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 SRO has a similar pillow texture. Will need to compare.
Guest Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) This mod makes me want to re-make the pillows, but I really need to keep that thought locked in my vault. I made one ages ago that I could carry around for myself, but I must have cleared it out. I have had some sort of odd fascination with pillows ever since I played Morrowind. This does look upscaled and I don't think it is that much of an improvement at all. Edited June 25, 2014 by Guest
Octopuss Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 The SRO texture is horrible as far as I can remember. There's a decent texture in Skyrim Ultra HD Texture Pack. This looks good enough though.

Guest Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Yay! That round pillow though... Needs more round. Also need an original stitches version, so it is still going in the mind vault. Oh and more creases.
fadingsignal Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Hi! I'm the creator of this re-texture. I'm flattered to see my stuff turning up in the STEP project forums, even if it doesn't make the cut! I can confirm this is not an upscale, these are 100% new textures. I'm obsessive about keeping the vanilla look/feel/colors and paint in a lot of the original markings, etc. I put more time into this stupid pillow set than I care to admit, ha!There are 3 variations, the rough burlap, smoother cotton, and a white cotton. I added normal map ripples to all of them as well that I didn't put into the screenshots (I should update those!)
DoubleYou Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 The white one probably won't make it, but the rough burlap and smoother cotton might. I have it installed at the moment and wish to make some compares. BTW, there are some more very similar pillows in Dwemer ruins that are merely a recolor of the other pillows. If you could only just make a recolor of yours for those dwemer ones, we might even get some more nice looks. I believe seeing one of those beds recently in Markarth. Or was it in the Excavation Site in Markarth where you kill Nimhe? Can't remember, but it looked like it could use some love.
Aiyen Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Just to clarify! I did not mean upscale in the bad way (Just load in texture upscale, and apply noise and call it a day!) But it does remain so true to the vanilla that one have to really look for the changes! But still nice work and thanks for taking the time to work on the pillows, and welcome to the forums!
Guest Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) Aiyen you backtracker! I thought the base was upscaled, smoothed, then detail layers were added on. You did a pretty good job getting the tones right then if you made it from scratch.. I also thought it was 4k for some reason, but it is 1k. Definite improvement (at 1k) then, but you could perhaps make the stitches look more individual perhaps? I think there could also be a leather stitches version too, as leather is quite abundant in game. Edited June 29, 2014 by Guest
DanielCoffey Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Leather would pick up staining from hair oils in the vicinity of the head which would make it interesting to create. The X stitching on finer materials would probably be changed to something smaller such as diagonal stitches... unless the Xs are just supposed to be decorative.

Haha no worries! I hope I didn't sound defensive there, I'm personally a little disappointed when I find textures that are just resized vanilla textures with filters. Glad to be here! I'm relatively new to Skyrim and modding and you guys are doing great work with this project.Hey, welcome to the forums, Fadingsignal!
