TechAngel85 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Yeah, that is mainly lighting. There is no way to get a perfectly, seamless body because the hands, head, feet and torso are all separate and thus there are going to be a seams somewhere. I think vanilla also has some of this in certain lighting as well. I'll have to look into it. I have the vanilla meshes extracted as well. Just have no idea how to edit them at this point. Thinking about asking Brumbek for some advice.
TechAngel85 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Okay, I got Autodesk 3ds Max 2014 (apparently 2015 is available but the nif tools don't work with it yet) from one of my old college professors to be able to edit meshes...I've never used this program before so don't expect gold. I might not be able to do anything at all...looks rather complicated and daunting! However, I'm also waiting on a reply from Brumbek about the body meshes so I'll wait until that arrives before even looking at the meshes.
TechAngel85 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Okay, so I couldn't resist... I'm no expert but to me there looks like some obvious issues on the meshes and or UV mapping (I have no idea which I'm looking at) on the back and inside of the legs as well as the obvious gap at the underwear line. To me, it looks like there is some work to be done. But this is just from opening the file up and viewing it. Still have no idea what I'm doing.... This is basically what I'm seeing looking at the back of the mesh; whereas, the front is completely smooth...
Aiyen Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Those issues are fairly "well known".. at least I recall reading about them over a year ago. They normally do not present any issue due to the underwear.. but is a major issue for nude models... hence why any replacers have that fixed. Also if you really want to get serious about body and mesh stuff then loverslab is probably a much better place to go ask/look... the people over there pretty much do nothing but that after all... Once you dig down past the nexus resentment, and the.. not entirely appropriate stuff etc.. then you can find a lot of gold mine posts with detailed instructions and hints. Overall what I found out last I digged into it was that the lighting issue is simply not possible to entirely solve... part due to engine stuff.. and unless you want to redo all animations as well! And that is probably an infinitely more daunting task then simply correcting UV´s and adjusting poly counts! :)
TechAngel85 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I'll be reading a lot and watching a lot of tutorials before I'm able to edit the meshes properly. I can play around to my hearts desire but when it comes do to it, I don't understand what the heck I'm doing. Haha!
Aiyen Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Oh I know the feeling.... Character models is all sculpting and then converting into lower poly´s though... since it is infinitely faster to do it that way with the tools for that. However ofc. then come the ... insert long string of annoying swear words... nif format conversion. For all the ease and comfort that is modding skyrim.. then nif is perhaps the single largest most annoying thing... even more annoying the every curve ball that the CK can throw at ya. Such an annoying format that is not really supporting in anything modern anymore. And everything considered then nobody seem interested in making things work with it. Oh well nif ranting off! Just hope you find something good.. I am really intrigued by what you have achieved here so far! So keep it up!
TechAngel85 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Thanks for the encouragement. I'm literally starting from ground zero here with learning the interface, toolbars, buttons etc. before I move on. Might as well learn to do it the right way.
Simondererste Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I guess having a shimmering from any magical effect(like eating salt) on your body reveals every neck seam? For testing: Using far behind in the load order should do the job?
TechAngel85 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I guess having a shimmering from any magical effect(like eating salt) on your body reveals every neck seam? For testing: Using far behind in the load order should do the job?I have not tested this. I have actually barely touched the head texture as it was already really high quality. The only thing I did was tone down the lip color to a more natural tone so that any color applied in-game during character creation wouldn't be over emphasized. I might be able to lessen the seam a bit but I'm not possible. As I've stated before...although I haven't confirmed it, I think the game applies additional processing or at least different processing to the head over the rest of the body. This makes sense as it is the predominate part you see while playing. The torsos were never designed to be unclothed during gameplay. At any rate, most remaining seams are going to be due to textures not matching up the UV mapping as they should. I still haven't learned enough about this to do anything useful to fix it. Patience though as I have purchased an e-book (3ds Max Bible) to help me learn.
TechAngel85 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Ahahahaha! This is entertaining! I have the female body opened up in 3ds Max. In learning about xView which shows issues in the meshes. Hahahahaha! Open holes, overlapped vertices....several things to fix here...now how to fix them? I'll keep reading my e-book... Just so happens the open holes are where some of the seams are (around the lining of the underwear, inner thighs, etc).
Nozzer66 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Ok have added this one for the new Extended + REGS + Requiem play-through. And first impressions only so far is that the presets for every race look about 5 times better straight away. :) Nice work, Tech.
tregolani Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Like Nozzer, I also added the SFBO to my STEP:Ex playthrough, and right away, the women look incredibly better than they did before with just XCE. Thank you Tech for all your hard work!
TechAngel85 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Thanks guys! This still has a long ways to go to be 100% fixed, but I've gotten a good start on it.
tregolani Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Thanks guys! This still has a long ways to go to be 100% fixed, but I've gotten a good start on it.Just curious, but any ETA when the next update will be coming out?
TechAngel85 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 No, the next update will require me editing the meshes and to do that I have to learn how to use 3ds Max. That'll take some time. Just diving in as I normally would isn't an option because of the shear power and complexity of 3ds Max so I'm trying to learn properly instead of just jumping in, playing around and not really knowing what I'm doing. If any issues are found please report them so I can look into them (screenshots are most helpful). I can probably fix anything that isn't a mesh or UV mapping issue. If there are any feature suggestion, you can also post them here as well.
