https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48933/?New meshes and textures for gems. Now flawless and normal gems differ more. They look quite OK on the author's screenshots. I'll need to check 'em out in game, as always with this kind of stuff the results may differ from rig to rig. Some details from the modpage:

For this small mod, I copy + pasted the default gemstone's normal maps 16x over, used some effects, and downsized it. The result is better a look for all gemstones. Take a look at the pictures, the Emerald shows it the best. Also, none of the gems except for the Diamond have proper shine. What I mean is, if you go into a dungeon and drop 1 of each gem, every gem except for the Diamond will be pitch black. This mod addresses that, as flawless gemstones should shine and reflect light, even in dungeons. This makes the gemstones even more reflective in bright light, also. This mod does not add the extra shine effect to the non-flawless gems, as I figured they shouldn't be as pretty looking. The normal map is applied, however, to all gemstone.

As I posted on the author's Nexus page, the normal is 256x256 and the cube map is 512x512. It appears that the cube map could be compressed better but I am unsure if DXT1 is appropriate for a cube map or not.

The biggest win for this mod is the alteration it makes to the meshes to change the behaviour of the gems in the darkness. It almost falls into the bug fix category with this change.

I was one of those who got the flat, opaque gems with this installed. I'm not sure why, if I recall I even toggled off my ENB to see if maybe that was the problem and it wasn't. I can try it again. Would love for it to work because they look much better than vanilla in the screenies.

As I said above, I have the problem mentioned in the comments about opaque gems. Here's what they look like for me. Imo it's a common enough problem judging by the comments that might not be a good fit for STEP, at least until a cause can be found.

Anyone care to post screens of vanilla compares?

Thi9s seems like a no brainer, but cannot say for sure unless there is a good difference. Also, the author claims that the vanilla gems glow in the dark and these do not. Evidence thereof would be nice, as the mod screens on Nexus show no vanilla compares :/

Got some screenies...

Coming soon... (apparently PNG files are not allowed...  so now I have to retake them... )

EDIT:

Nope...it's just broken...

Nevermind, you have to use a link that ends with an extension...

Now the screenies!

The only thing I don't like about this mod is that it turns the regular diamond into a "grey" diamond. I'm sorry but even the worse flawed diamond grade (i3) isn't that bad. Some of the flawed gems need work as they aren't clear/glassy looking at all. The author says this is an issue with the Particle Patch for ENBs (included in SMIM as well)  and that he doesn't know how or the time to fix it. Disabling SMIM did not fix this for me.

Is that with ENB mate (if so we need unmodded vanilla shaders and such)? Also... I hope they get the gallery feature back up and running soon.

Not my first rodeo... ::P: Pure vanilla lighting there. The gems just react unnatural in the lighting and look terrible. I can see why the author has tried to fix them. lol Daylight shot is around noon and night shot is around 10pm.

I think these look good at night, but pretty saturated and unnatural in daylight (screens above, vanilla lighting); however, this is too lighting dependent, I think, and requires that any raters judge by look in-game under vanilla lighting.

I abstain from rating this for inclusion into STEP.

Those screenshots posted a few posts above are pretty terrible and they don't look like the gems in my game. I've been using this mod for months now. Hopefully the mod author will keep working at resolving the few niggling issues that remain.
