Agreed. On smaller monitors such as a 16 inch (which I use) you honestly cannot tell the difference between the performance and full versions with the exception of certain low impact (from a performance perspective) featues such as water reflections and water parallux. Even the full versions have less of an impact on performance than certain other ENBs out there that are rich in eye candy and contrast/bloom effects. RealVision also has one of the best supporting communities I have seen on the Nexus.

Wins for ease of entry (install instructions & author/community support) and frequency of updates (almost as fast as Boris, ha ha). With three main options plus full and performance versions, its easy to find a look that's great for you.

It's the one that I keep going back to. Good all round enhances my game without stylising it too much one way or another.

I have decided to go with this ENB with the version 2.2.7 of STEP.

Since this ENB preset requires CoT, are you able to tell when to install CoT and when to install RealVision starting from 2.D Fixes section on?

Once you have finished step 2.D (Fixes), continue with step 2.E (Interface). Before you start with part 2.F (Conflicting Graphics), install the weather mods of Climates of Tamriel and the actual ENB in the following order (as advised by the creator of RealVision)

 

I highly recommend option B, from RealVision.

  • Project Reality - Climates Of Tamriel V3.1
  • Supreme Storms for Climates of Tamriel 3.1 (optional, but recommended)
  • Climates of Tamriel - Weather Patch (do not use Climates Of Tamriel - Weather Patch - Kountervibe ENB!)
  • RealVision ENB
Once you've installed these weather mods and his ENB you can start the Conflicting Graphics section 2.F. At the end of this section, you'll have to install the lighting mod (again, I highly recommend option B, but if you prefer another option, then I suppose you switch ELFX with RLO)

  • Enhanced Lights and FX 0.4.2 (do not forget to install the SMIM Meshes from ELFX optionals too!)

Indeed, if using Mod Organizer then you won't have this problem and I highly recommend you to do so.

However, it sounded like he was using NMM so I gave the instructions based on that.

Based on the above, I can see CoT doesn't have any conflicts, while ELFX main mod and ELFX SMIM have several ones.

What do you think?

I'm sorry but I cannot help you any further from here as I have never worked with Wrye Bash. I'm used to using Mod Organizer, where you can always decide the installation order of mods, even after you have installed them (by simply dragging them in their appropriate installation priority). I would still highly recommend you to try out Mod Organizer. It would really help you out in the long run and you can even combine it with some functions of Wrye Bash.

 

Mod Organizer gives you insane flexibility and it also tells you exactly what is overwritten by what. But for now, all I can tell you that ELFX is supposed to overwrite SMIM. For further detail on the installation order I'd highly recommend you to take a look at Neovalen's Skyrim Revisited guide over here. It's has not the exact same set-up as the STEP guide, but it gives you a lot of information about installation orders and such. Since the current guide isn't finished yet, you can also take a look at his older guide over here. It is outdated and not supported anymore though, but it will still give you a good impression on the installation order of certain mods, along with CoT and ENBs.

Thank you Faylon. I will probably try out MO if I will go through this heavy modding again in the future.

I'm going to check the link you pasted here, in the meanwhile let's see if anyone else can provide some insight. At the end of the day, I only need to understand whether I can overwrite what ELFX asks for or if I should roll back and install CoT-ELFX-RVENB first and then continue with section F.

Probably after section F. You will want ELFX to overwrite SMIM. CoT shouldn't have any file conflicts so doesn't matter where you put it. 

 

As for RealVision ENB, put it before section F in your install order. If you are using the manual install of RVENB, then also download the particle patch and subsurface scattering optionals and put them in the same position.

 

edit: after installing, check which file conflicts remain. ELFX doesnt neceessarily have to win every conflict.

      The vanilla cotton plant is modeled somewhat after a flowering commercial cotton plant: Google Images of cotton plants
      Herbalist's Guide to Skyrim depicts it after the tundra cotton plant, which is more like a grass. Google Images of tundra cotton
      This mod blends the two, giving it the leaves of a commercial cotton plant and the flower of a tundra cotton plant.
      I consider this a significant deviation from vanilla, so I would not recommend for Step, but it looks fantastic.

      There are 3 completely unrelated tweaks, each packaged in a separate ESP-FE plugin. I'm only recommending one of them for STEP:
      Roggvir's Amulet of Talos: Gives a unique name to Roggvir's Amulet of Talos so that it doesn't stack with every other Amulet of Talos in your inventory and treat the whole stack as a quest item.
      The related quest starts when the game starts, but only becomes visible in the journal after talking to a certain NPC. If you pick up Roggvir's amulet off his corpse before talking to that NPC and triggering the remainder of the quest, it will be stuck in your inventory as a quest item until then. Without the above fix, it will stack with other Amulets of Talos and prevent you from dropping or trading them.
      In my last game I looted Roggvir's corpse right after his execution, because I'm a bad person. I kept his amulet in my inventory for several in-game months as I didn't know what I was supposed to do with it. Talking to children was very low priority, because I'm a horrible person. Thankfully I was using this mod which allowed me to loot, trade or gift many other Amulets of Talos without this quest interfering.
      Long story short: it's a very simple and useful fix. It reverts the EBQO changes to vanilla so some patching is needed. You might consider incorporating this mod's change in the STEP CR patch, with appropriate credits, if you don't want to add one more mod to the guide, as it appears to be open-permissions.
      The other 2 tweaks are more subjective:
      Falion Is Rude: Prevents Falion from greeting you when entering his home during business hours if you've never spoken to him before, so his introductory dialogue doesn't feel so out of place.
      I use it. It makes Falion not greet you like any common merchant the first time you enter his house and have not encountered him before. This is consistent with him being rude when you first encounter him outside. Requires patching to merge its changes with RDO's. 
      I Know How Marriage Works: When you first speak to Maramal about marriage, you have an option to tell him that you already know how it works instead of the vanilla "no" and "maybe" options.
      I don't use this one. Can't speak about it.
