exploiteddna Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Here is a compare of one of the several ash landscape textures. This may be sufficient for the ash landscape textures because they all look the same, they just are different in terms of scaling, alpha channels, etc. Anyways, here is one more set of compares to add to the repertoire.(Vanilla is HRDLC + USKP)  Vanilla-No STEP    >>    Core-STEP active     >>   Core-Step plus Langley Solstheim __________
WilliamImm Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 Again, my vote goes to Langelys, the look of it looks the best to me.
EssArrBee Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Isn't there a mystery modder landscape for Solstiem as well? I like the vanilla myself, since it looks the most like flat ash.
WilliamImm Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 Telvanni Reborn? I think it just covered the mushrooms and the Telvanni releated textures - was there another one? Only conflict I saw was between the furniture.
exploiteddna Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Yeah this and serioushd are the only ones that cover the landscape. I don't like vanilla, it's too blurry. I think SHD looks most like volcanic ash. Info like langleys though. I can't decide between SHd and Langleys.. Ive used them both extensively on my own games and still haven't picked a favorite Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk 2
TechAngel85 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Again, I've for STEP and not Langleys. STEP Core look much more like fluffy ash what would have fallen like snow; thus, looks more realistic. As for the comments on the wood, I'm still for STEP because Langleys changes from the vanilla intent of the texture. The decal on the wood in vanilla is a carved/burnt/engraved decal. On Langleys, it no longer looks carved or burnt in. It appears to be embossed rather than the vanilla's intended engraved look.
exploiteddna Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I agree with your assessment of the ash, and you do make a good argument for the wood. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk 2
exploiteddna Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 @ William: Where is the furniture texture used? It is dlc2darkelffurniture01.dds so not very helpful in terms of what it is used on.. Now that I think about it, it may actually be used for all of the dragonborn wood furniture
WilliamImm Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 Langely's looks the most like the kind of ash you would expect to find on Solstheim. That, and it looks to be vanilla-like in apperance.
exploiteddna Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Here is another set of compares. The main purpose of this set is to show the door texture that is used for all of the Redoran hut doors in the Raven Rock area.  Also you can note the differences between the ash and road textures. In this shot, the ash textures are more similar to each other. (keep in mind there are 15 or more different color maps for the solstheim landscape in this pack. While a lot of them are similar, some are not. Thus, I am trying to make sure that all the different textures are shown)   Vanilla-No STEP    >>     Core-STEP active    >>    Core-Step plus Langley Solstheim __________

That' date=' and it looks to be vanilla-like in apperance.[/quote']i do agree with this. in that first compare of the ash, the langleys is definitely a lot more similar to the vanilla, regardless of how realistic it may or may not be (it almost is like small little round pebbles or rocks)
TechAngel85 Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Langley may win for ash, but for the wood it's SHD hands down. Again, the compares above. I don't like how drastic the wood in changed in Langley. The vanilla door looks like it "belongs" better than the Langley door. You can also notice there are parts missing from the table in the Langley shot. The author most certainly doesn't go for a vanilla "look and feel" in his/her re-textures.

I think it would have been better if he included the wood related textures in his other pack (Langleys wood stone and metal) and left the landscape textures as its own separate pack. But i suppose that's neither here nor there at this pointÂ
exploiteddna Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013   Vanilla-No STEP     >>     Core-STEP active      >>    Core-Step plus Langley Solstheim __________  Vanilla-No STEP     >>     Core-STEP active      >>    Core-Step plus Langley Solstheim __________These shots are showing Solstheim's "ash tundra", according to the name of the textures. The pictures speak for themselves. *cough* Langleys wins this round *cough*
