How it works: it decompresses the BSAs, transforms .ogg files to .wav and the re-compresses everything except .mp3 files back into BSA archives. It also changes the structure of BSA files slightly. The immediate effect I think I saw is that background noice on the radio was reduced and the songs sounded sharper. But it might be a plaacebo, I have $80 headphones and the test "Before" was with my daughter at home; while the "After" was "in controlled environment" (she was at kindergarten). If someone with $300 JVC or Bose can do a test and share the results, it would be great.

Anyway, @zilav can probably enlighten us more.

I will add it to the guide for the time being, as it extremely easy to install.

This mod has been updated on March 30th:

'Meshes.bsa no longer gets split into Meshes2.bsa - its content gets directed to Misc.bsa instead.' (Changelog)

Instructions for this mod would now be a bit more simpler, especially for the INI edits.

Hi, I'm following step modifications for Fallout New Vegas. But in this guide there is 1 thing I don't understand:

in 01-Tools (FNV BSA Decompressor) it mentions at the end to make some changes in the fallout.ini file.

and one of the changes it mentions is 'Fallout - Meshes2.bsa'

[Archive] SArchiveList=Fallout - Invalidation.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa, Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Meshes2.bsa, Fallout - Voices1.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa

this file doesn't exist, as far as I know, neither in the original game, nor after making the bsa decompressor.. is it a typo, or is this change really necessary??

thanks, and sorry, English is not my native language

I think the easiest way to verify is to run Mod Organizer and click Archives in the right pane. This shows a list of all BSA files in the game folder and all mod folders. If you don't see Fallout - Meshes2.bsa after the guide is completely installed, I wouldn't worry about it.

EDIT: The only reason I can think of this instruction to exist is if FNV BSA Decompressor splits the meshes archive into two files, so you might verify you ran this correctly. The guide mentions you should exit Mod Organizer before running FNV BSA Decompressor.

In case of this now being a bit of an older guide, it might be good to also read the descriptions and mod pages for the relevant mods. This mod for example has been updated three times in the meantime, and it should be no longer necessary to modify the INI file in this particular case.

From the mod's changelog (please see the last line):

"Version 1.3
Fixed the missing Vorbis update and removed an unnecessary file.

Version 1.2
Added an option to redirect output to a custom folder (it still defaults to Data like it used to).
Made UI consistent with ESM Fixes.
Removed archive invalidation BSA to let it be handled by Mod Managers.
Better wording and fixed typos.

Version 1.1
Meshes.bsa no longer gets split into Meshes2.bsa - its content gets directed to Misc.bsa instead."
