Adding this from the main DynDOLOD thread to offer context for anyone interested:

Spoiler

"Child > Parent
"Low" is the old default that just happened automatically.
"Medium" will take care of trees in cities. Vanilla Riften has some aspens that are then visible, so I'd use that.

Parent > Child
Since it replaces the Whiterun and Solitude Exterior patches from older DynDOLOD Resources, enable that check box if you are interested in proper surroundings and used those patches before. Especially helpful for Whiterun, Riften and Solitude if you use mods like Legacy of the Dragenborn where you can actually see outside. Do not use if performance is more important and then just don't peak outside. If large reference bugs workarounds is used, you can disable large references in child worlds from the SkyUI MCM to regain a bit of performance.

Make sure to read https://dyndolod.info/Help/Child-Parent-Worldspace-Copies if controlling things individually for a specific child world is needed."

The link in the following instruction at https://stepmodifications.org/wiki/SkyrimSE:2.3 goes to a 404 page:

I hope I don't actually need Visual Studio, but rather runtime libraries?

Link updated. It's actually linked from the DynDOLOD Alpha mod page. That content is transcluded into the guide table entry.

You can navigate to any mod page by clicking the link associated with the 'W' just after the mod name in the tables.

Is there any explanation for all the DynDOLOD .ini edits in the guide please? I just use STEP for some sort of rough baseline, but I am otherwise not trying to replicate the entire thing,so I don't want to mess something up. I will also likely use Community Shaders.

Those changes are specific to the Step build, so if you are not using that strictly, then you can ignore most of those changes. We have not yet tested CS beyond confirming it loads at this point. Many of the changes apply to ENB, so it's not clear yet which may or may not apply to CS. The DynDOLOD documentation and INIs have the details of what these INI settings do.
