Comparison shots of FO's Realistic Print option replacement textures.

For testing FO-RP textures, I only kept the textures folder and hid the interface folder containing the font replacer and the book.swf "style sheet", otherwise the different formatting would not allow side-by-side comparisons with vanilla.

Vanilla > FO-RP

I thought the replacement textures were enhanced versions, but I was mistaken:

  • They're quite limited. All the ornamental letters (such as the O above) are replaced but only a few drawings are covered.
  • They're simply the vanilla textures with a different tint.

My take is that they're designed to go with the dark brownish color of the text used by FO's Realistic Print, and provide no benefit or improvement on their own.

Here's a shot using FO-RP textures and "style sheet":

For me, fonts are too small, I changed in skyrim.ini fDefaultFOV to 65 (other FOV stays at 80 as of STEP) and it fits well to the screen while reading books and much more comfortable.

What is your game resolution ...and monitor/desktop resolution (they won't necessarily be the same)?

HD - 1980x1080 both. I have externally connected Sony TV (non-smart), so with 1,5-2 m to TV the reading of books with 80 FOV were tough.

1. FOV 80 (STEP default)   2. FOV 65

1. FOV 80 (STEP default)

2. FOV 65

Your situation is unique, so Step's default is still the better pick for normal gaming resolutions and monitor << 1 m from the eyes.

Well, probably, I just thought many people are playing Skyrim with wide TV screen (46" in my case) and mentioning they may tweak FOV setting to suite their reading needs may be worth to mention, cause I didn't find any other specific ways to change font sizes for Books and Notes.

You can change the size of the font by editing Convenient Reading's INI file. Double click Convenient Reading on the left pane and then click the INI tab. Select the Convenient Reading.ini and on the right change both iBookFontSize and iNoteFontSize to a higher number. The default is 15 which I personally found too small. I changed them both to 20 which is Skyrim's default font size.

Great, thanks. I saw recommendation for convenient reading settings on internet, but somehow missed to find the ini file itself in my installation. Now it works, so either ways are good or even in combination of FOV and convenient reading settings.
