I wouldn't typically mention mods that involve music since they aren't usually relevant to STEP goals. True Medieval Tavern Music might be an exception as it replaces some background tavern music in Skyrim with music that would have been played in taverns in a time period consistent with much of the lore in the game. In the short time I've used it I felt it does a better job than vanilla Skyrim in conveying an immersive feel in the taverns.

I just tried this out in game after listening to the sample, and it's brilliant!

I also tried out Bards Sing on Request ONLY, and LIAT. These combined give a much more immersive feel to the tavern, as LIAT will start to have folks streaming into the tavern in the evening. That's a way a tavern should be.

I did notice the music took awhile to kick-in, but with the combination of these mods, I thoroughly enjoyed just sitting at the bar and "people watching". :P

Me too. I have been running these together for awhile now. There is another one with dice games for taverns.

Perhaps we should some some (or all) of those you suggested into STEP? I assume they all have an ESP, anyone checked for conflicts yet?

I would suggest at least adding this one. I haven't check of conflicts...I don't have the whole mod list up in WB yet. Just a small group of about 10 mods for testing and for testing vurt's stuff.

Yes, we really have a long way to go to test the whole thing ... at a certain point, we will need to put a hard stop on letting anything else new into 2.2.1 :whistling:

That's what I've been saying, but we can easily add smaller mods and replacers only while the bigger things are finalized.

True Medieval Tavern Music installs files under Data\Music\. They have a .xwm extension, and I don't know if they contain scripts or not.

LIAT and Bard Sing On Request Only have ESP's, and I have not checked for errors/conflicts. We can mark these for testing for the next release, no need to overwhelm 2.2.1 with new additions.

The .xwm files contain only music using a Microsoft format as mentioned here . There are no scripts. True Tavern Music replaces 4 music files in vanilla Skyrim.

If we include it in STEP 2.2.1 or a later expansion we will still need to test it, but since it is just music that replaces some vanilla files the testing will be more straightforward than for some mods.

Smaller mods are easier to test and approve, so they're not much of an issue as long as they're stable and compatible with other STEP mods.

True Medieval Tavern Music works like a charm. It doesn't play when the bard is singing/playing their music. Once they stop, the Tavern music kicks in. Bard Sing On Request Only still needs to be tested, as it is an obvious companion to this mod.

I recently tried all three companion mods:

TMTM + LIAT + BSORO

My thoughts are as follows:

BSORO has conflicts with multiple other mods (any mod that changes the bards in any way). Merge patches are a must if using this one.

LIAT I found added WAY too many people to the point where I couldn't move half the time... busy is one thing but... The animations were seemly random and there was a large % of women compared to men... which I found odd.

TMTM worked well, however unlike the default (soft) music I found it to be rather lively/loud making me wonder where it was all coming from (i.e. wanted to search for a bard band or something)... so that was a little immersion breaking for me.

Re: BSORO

Are there mods currently in STEP that this is conflicting with? I haven't checked.

Re: LIAT

I agree on the animations, but the number of people I find quite appropriate most of the time. There is certainly a case to be made about where did such a large group of people come from for small villages such as Riverwood.

Re: TMTM

The choice of music is very good. The only problem I have with placing a restriction on choice of a mod like this with the lack of a source (bard band, etc.), is that you essentially label all music as immersion breaking when exploring.

Sounds like LIAT and TMTM are mutually required to not be out of place.  I agree that LIAT adds too many people, it could be a fire hazard ;)
