Hey guys: A question.

I am trying to setup new Oldrim and SSE STEP builds. I think your SRO WIKI pages need updating. Took me a LONG time to puzzle out the https://www.moddb.com/ information for SRO. Everything except the "Original" patch say it's for SSE; but it could be used for Oldrim as well, which without further explanation seems wrong. Your STEP SRO WIKI didn't clear it up, either. No mention of how/why one can use the SSE files on Oldrim. It took poking around and reading all the posts here on this forum to finally explain how this all works and how to install SRO on Oldrim.

For Oldrim: Your WIKI says to download the first 3 parts, then the 1.7 update. That's out of date now?. According to this forum, the 1.7 update has been replaced by (2) 1.8 updates. I believe the install order for Oldrim is the first three 1.7 version parts, then the 1.8 update (Skyrim_Realistic_Overhaul_1.8._Update.rar), then the 1.8 Original update (SRO_1.8._Original_Skyrim_version_update.rar) on top of it all. (5) files total. Correct? And maybe mention that the 1.7 files and the main 1.8 update are, in fact, supposed to be used for both Oldrim & SSE, and that it is the "Original" patch installed last that makes it work for Oldrim.

For SSE: Your WIKI page says to install the first 3 parts, then "Install the update file, choosing to merge as well." You should probably add a caution not to install the "original" file?

In the Oldrim WIKI you say you can install them separately or merge them into one. For the SSE WIKI you just mention Merge. Shouldn't you be consistent?

I know you're focused on SSE now; but there are those of us who still play Oldrim. Might be good to bring it up-to-date?

My version, from a "STEP Beyond" document I'm working on, of post-2015 improvements to STEP for LE:

1. Get all 5 components of SRO, from:
   https://www.moddb.com/mods/skyrim-realistic-overhaul/downloads
These are manual not MO2 downloads.
2. Extract all of them. This is basically a mess that needs to be repackaged
so MO2 can work with it.
3. Create a folder called "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 SE", and a "Docs"
   subfolder under it.
4. Rename "Skyrim_Realistic_Overhaul_Part_1\readme.txt" to "Skyrim Realistic
Overhaul 1.7 readme.txt", and move it to that Docs folder.
5. Move the contents of "Skyrim_Realistic_Overhaul_Part_1\data\textures" to
"Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 SE\", so you have "textures" next to "Docs".
6. Drag "Skyrim_Realistic_Overhaul_Part_2\data\textures" to "Skyrim Realistic
Overhaul 1.8 SE\", and let it merge into the "textures" folder there.
7. Drag "Skyrim_Realistic_Overhaul_Part_3\data\textures" to "Skyrim Realistic
Overhaul 1.8 SE\", and let it merge into the "textures" folder there.
8. Rename "Skyrim_Realistic_Overhaul_1.8._Update\Skyrim Realistic Overhaul
   1.8. Update\readme.txt" to "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 Update readme.txt"
and move it to "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 SE\Docs\".
9. Drag "Skyrim_Realistic_Overhaul_1.8._Update\Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8.
Update\data\textures" to "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 SE\", and let it
merge into the "textures" folder there, allowing it to replace any files.
10. Use 7zip or your archiver of choice to zip up the combined "Skyrim
Realistic Overhaul 1.8 SE" into a new archive.  Wait for the long archive
operation to finish. This is now your installer for SRO in an SSE game.
11. Rename "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 SE" to "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul
1.8 LE" (I mean the folder, not the archive you just zipped up).
12. Rename "SRO_1.8._Original_Skyrim_versions_update\SRO 1.8. Original Skyrim
version update\readme.txt" to  to "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 LE Update
readme.txt" and move it to "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 SE\Docs\".
13. Drag "SRO_1.8._Original_Skyrim_versions_update\SRO 1.8. Original Skyrim
version update\data\textures to "Skyrim Realistic Overhaul 1.8 LE\", and
let it merge into the "textures" folder there, allowing it to replace files.
14. Use 7zip or your archiver of choice to zip up the combined "Skyrim
Realistic Overhaul 1.8 LE" into a new archive.  Wait for the long archive
operation to finish. This is now your installer for SRO in Oldrim.  Move
it to your MO2's downloads directory.

See STEP 2.2.9 for where SRO goes in the load order:

Does Starac/A.N.C.I.E.N.T consider for permissions for individual texture use for specific projects?

I was hoping to use a few of his Windhelm wood textures for Cities of the North Dawnstar through this mechanism.  https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/52374

I tested it in game and they look great!!

You would have to ask, directly, but he does on a case-by-case basis. I'm not sure how often he is on the Step forums. I've had success contacting him via ModDB.

There is component in v1.7 update not found in v1.8:

textures\dlc01\architecture\dawnguard\dfloor01.dds

Not sure why this texture (11 MB) was left over from v1.7.

It looks quite great compared with raiserfx work "Dawnguard Fortress Improved".

Thanks for reporting. We'd need to get permission to provide this texture I think. or we could make our own upscaled version, which may be easier.

This is a very old and picked over mod, so it wouldn't surprise me if something is missing. We hope to move away from this one in the future by providing our own upscaled vanilla textures (properly upscaled DDS compression formats). This mod does it correctly but most other mods that claim the same have various issues, so we are using this for a while yet.
