OK, splitting semantic hairs ... so ... science derives conclusions based upon fact and not speculation. Science derives questions based upon speculation. Hopefully that passes muster by the semantics police :P Philosophy remains assumptive and speculative and draws logical conclusions based on schools of logic that do not necessarily have any basis in science, and those logic schools are almost infinitely malleable and have little to no bias constraint. ... if my words are not taken as I mean them, then let me clarify by stating that philosophy and philosophical schools of though (aside from the 'philosophy' of the scientific method) require many assumptions that are not derived from logic gleaned from facts gleaned from hypothesis testing. Philosophy != science. A philosopher can always deconstruct a scientific argument or principle to the ultimate conclusion that perception != reality and further confound any argument into a quagmire of semantics. This is a black hole of thinking that negates any real progress, IMO. I am not qualified to mince words with any practiced student/rhetorician of philosophy (scientists != lawyers)

OK lots of wishy-washy info being pushed on this thread ... STEP does not support mods that we have not tested and included within STEP - Some of our staff and site members are happy to help with custom mod setups, but do not assume that any 'issues' you are having are in any way related to a particular mod's quality. Most issues are related to mod-mod intercompatibilities and/or load order problems, or save-game problems: BOSS does not know how to order everything in the nearly infinite possible combinations that exist. BOSS is a tool that often requires additional user knowledge and inputCertain mods can cause issues, but that does not mean that there is any problem at all with the mod itself!Custom setups with lots of mods are for people that do not want to play the game right away. They want to tinker and troubleshoot and discover and learn. if you want to play: Install STEP or some other guided setup ... and follow the instructions!STEP does not support Cleanmem or any other memory 'optimizers' - These tools are not recommended, so stop using them or stop promoting their use on this site. We are tired of refuting baseless claims and redirecting misinformed users that read them! This thread is turning into a rathole of misinformation ... closed.

What is fact is fact. Science deals in facts, not speculation. I choose to believe in only the tangible. Philosophy and theology are rabbit holes of confounding, IMO, and I dabble in each only to the extent that they support my own ideology :P Then I get off that marry-go-round to nowhere.

implemented Mod Suggestions subforum for Fallout Series forum
z929669 replied to rootsrat's question in Forum Support
It would be very easy to filter by game I think. I'd just need to see about the possibility of combining tag filters (i.e., Skyrim / testing, etc); however, this would not be a problem if we had no mod testing and the like for other games, but I would rather build that in up from for forward compat of the metadata structure. I'll test in my VM and see how it could work. s4n would like this method more than complicating forum structure and creating potential reorg events in the future as needs expand. The only other option would be to implement separate forum instances like the Nexus does. I am guessing that our IPB license does not cover this, but it might. -
What is the weather/lighting 'fix' coverage for this mod? Does the author team up with any of the lighting providers? Sorry, too lazy to look myself and hoping other experts already know!

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me to keep the forum structure simple and use tagging system to differentiate between hosted games. This way, we could use the Mods forum and support threads as a common area relating to different games ... we can set up any forum with a tag requirement for all posts and use a predefined tag list (as prefixes or not) that requires members to choose a tag/prefix to apply to any new Mod (or other) topic. This seems like the simplest way to manage without creating a crapload of rabbit holes (forums/threads) to dive into, each with a similar structure and function. z929669 replied to rootsrat's question in Forum Support
I am just talking about creating the forum structure to support the future of our supporting different games. SMW support could come at a later time once we completely finish config for Skyrim support. (long way off!) Anyway, guide building is a challenge, and maintaining a guide like this and SR:LE is almost impossible, given all the mod changes and even paradigm shifts (unless several people dedicate themselves to that ... too much "other guide dev/maintenance" on this site is not ideal though, as we already have a challenge maintaining STEP ... but whatever. We need to let people do what they want and go with it more or less and hope that we get the help needed for STEP :P I'll think about this though and create a forum method at least in order to make info management somewhat feasible and logical. -

Let's not let that thread turn into another SR "pre-release feedback" mega-thread :P Best to create a structure to prevent that I think. Will design and implement something soon. -
Accepting this definition as Truth (which I choose to do), I am agnostic, and many others are not agnostic. All contrary arguments are purely philosophical, which is also purely subjective. Also, if we slip into non-existence when we die (as was our state for all time before each of us was born), then we still won't know anything at all about the grand Puzzle. All potential wasted effort No hypothesis can be experimentally proven but rather only disproven (or falsified; but even that can be logically debated philosophically). The same applies to a supreme intelligence/creator ... theism and atheism are beliefs based on faith alone and cannot be falsified or even discredited. One's actions and justifications founded on one's beliefs are scientifically unjustifiable ... hence, I remain agnostic (see def above :P ) IMO, faith is a Pandora's Box that should not govern any action or justification.
-
Any proper scientist MUST be agnostic, since there is no way to convincingly disprove the existence of a higher power. Likewise there is no way to 'prove' it either. An atheist is just like a creationist with regard to their 'belief': they choose to have faith that there is no higher power or intelligent creator/conductor of life ... faith, because they cannot scientifically convincingly disprove it.

z929669 replied to rootsrat's question in Forum Support
If we are going to consider mods forums for other games, then I think that we should rethink the forum layouts for those games (to avoid creating tri-level subforums). Maybe we bring the other Bethesda games up one .... -
wanted Purposeful Save as Draft (autosave already included)
z929669 replied to z929669's question in Forum Support
Good points ... nevertheless. Implementation is possible, and it is a wanted feature, as mentioned by several others on an adjacent thread (that is why I started this ... it prevents recurrence of the same question over and over again as OT posts on other topics). -
It turns out that extensionless image links are not necessarily the norm, and we will not be supporting them. This in turn means that any service providers that host images that can be served on demand (i.e., without downloading ... does anyone know shat this type of service is called formally??) must reference the image with a URL that includes the file-type extension at the end of the URL. Copy (15 GB) does host on-demand content but does not provide the URL with file extension.Google Drive (15 GB) does host on-demand content but does not provide the URL with file extension.Mega (50 GB) hosts files but does not host on-demand content.DropBox (2 GB) does support on-demand content and URL with file extension.Imgur does support on-demand content and URL with file extension.Postimage.org... ?TinyPic... ?ImageShack... ?photobucket... ?FreeImageHosting.net... ?Picoodle... ?I use DropBox, because it is convenient to save images to my local synced directory, and I can right click from Explorer to get the link and paste into my posts fast and easy

wanted Purposeful Save as Draft (autosave already included)
z929669 replied to z929669's question in Forum Support
I have to disagree that the default autosave feature is sufficient. It is a decent net for rare occasions when someone stumbles upon it, but it does not replace the purposeful save as draft. As far as teaching it, I am not even familiar with it, as it has not been useful or apparent to me as yet (and as much as I post, it would appear then to be all but useless to me and hence to at least a sub-sample of others). It is a "safety feature" so it does not need to be taught if it works as intended. The poster is simply "pleasantly surprised" that their post was recalled (regardless of how it worked). If anyone finds it helpful, that is great, and it is great for those that fall into the small group of applicable users. Save as draft still is more clear, succinct and inherently useful for reasons outside of "saving one's butt". Both are valid functions for very different situations. A valid function is whatever users say it is. I also am not worried about spammers using a save as draft feature .... if they even get in here, the problem has already occurred, and they can post spam without any assistance from a save draft feature. The multiquote feature could be argued against for similar reasons and yet we have that. Not sure how a save as draft could be validly construed as a security breach. It is valid functionality for any forum application (desktop versus web argument makes no difference ... 'boxes' were made to be broken ;) ). -
wanted Purposeful Save as Draft (autosave already included)
z929669 replied to z929669's question in Forum Support
If that is true, it is convenient; however, the "purposefully save as draft" feature is nonetheless missing, and I often require less than 2 minutes to begin composing something and need to move away. In these cases, a "save as draft" button would be quite useful. otherwise, users must wait if and only if they know about the autosave functionality (which is NOT intuitive at all. Less than ideal, so this is still a 'wanted' feature. Re-tagging topic :P -
The situation where images are not showing when linked from DropBox, Copy or similar image-hosting that supplies a coded link without an image prefix. This seems to work for all in PMs but not on post threads. Testing on this post thread from my account with image file-type restrictions applied:EDIT: does not work for admin either: https://copy.com/ApwFlETiZ7nqLet's test if the image coded link works without being in an image tag: https://copy.com/ApwFlETiZ7nq EDIT: Link disabled as well ... then why does it work from within PMs? If it work within PMs, then the file-type restrictions are incomplete and thus I think they should be lifted.

wanted Purposeful Save as Draft (autosave already included)
z929669 replied to z929669's question in Forum Support
Not really. I just tried it by starting two posts: one in quick reply and one in standard reply. Once I leave the page after beginning a post, no autosave prompts me to restore my 'draft' upon return ... autosaved draft does not exist. If there is a certaijn timeout requirement, it would be good to know what that is for testing to verify, but regardless, If one cannot recover editor text after accidently moving away, then that is still an issue (save should also be invoke-able via "save as draft" button, which is the whole point of "save as draft" functionality) Also, Lazarus does not appear to work as far as I can tell :/ I am not sure how to invoke/trigger Lazarus .... -
This is another problem for s4n ... I have no idea either ... you might try again now to see if the extension limitation I just removed had anything to do with it.

For those of you that had PMs moved over from our old forums, you may have noticed that if you click on the little envelope at top right and select "View All Messages" (or otherwise navigate to the messeging center of IPB), you will notice many 'unread' messages may exist that you actually have already read. This is due to the 'read' flag not carrying over properly from MyBB conversion. To fix, go into your messaging center > New , and select the topmost tick box, scroll down, and select "Mark Read". Do this for each subsequent page under New messages until you have no new content. I had about 800 PMs that were 'unread', and it took me about15-20 iterations of this, shich was pretty easy really.

UPDATE: s4n said he was making progress yesterday on a HighSlide implementation for the forums. Hopefully, he will have it running soon.

Yes, so let it be a lesson then: Chaos rules the day, regardless of how hard we try to apply the rule of order. Humans and their factions are too selfishly disjointed to develop a proper global conspiracy. We are stuck with the piddly back-room deals cast among only a small (albeit, sometimes very powerful) few that may or may not have their private conspiracy augmented (or canceled out) by some other random conspiracy born of selfishness (a universal trait of anything with genes).

Efficiency is partly measured by the active 'connections' among the brains neurological 'centers'. More connections ~= higher efficiency, and most people lack a consistent # of connections among the different centers since they are not really using those centers in conjunction with one another in any consistent manner ... brain 'exercise' is key to developing those, but most of us don't have nearly as many as we could have. I am no expert in this area, but rather am regurgitating an overly-simplified rendition of what I have learned (perhaps inacurately), which is testament to my own lack of 'connections' among the areas of my brain that pertain to remembering this stuff :P
-
Yes, you can ... furthermore, this functionality is not limited to a "public" directory as in DropBox. You can use direct linking anywhere where you enable the security to allow it. All can be managed on their web app, but you can also download a local app. Let me know if any of you are interested, because if you set up an account through a referral, you and the referrer (me or s4n in this case) get an additional 5GB of storage in addition to the 15GB they give you to begin with.

ACCEPTED Better Shaped Weapons - BSW (by masterofshadows and LeanWolf)
z929669 replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
It would be great if the 2.2.9 guide could be updated to account for this mod ... I am still not totally sold on sec 2N methodology, so I need to see how it all works out to make sure it is not weird.
