  1. You can install it just fine via Wrye Bash, not sure what the problem could be. Only thing is you don't get a guided-installer as you do in NMM as he hasn't written one for BAIN-install. Simply check the sub-package checkboxes for the versions you want. Keep in mind though if there are several options starting with "02" for example, only pick one of those. That means they edit the same thing. So pick one 01, one 02, one 03 etc etc. 21/22/23 are performance-variants. And yes, there is a way to write guided installers for WB aswell, but it's more complex. :)
  2. That's because if you follow the DDSOPT guide, there will be 102 files from the original Skyrim - Textures.bsa missing since they should not be optimized. I've posted how to deal with it in another thread about DDSOPT, but the gains from removing that .bsa from the ini are non-existant anyway. (The HRDLC files are all present after a DDSOPT optimize, that's why it works for them)
  3. When WoW first came out, it was not casual friendly. When comparing to EQ, then to some extent yes. I have some of my best memories in WoW in the early years when clearing end-game content was not easy, and was much more of a progressive endeavor than it is today. Yeah sorry, I was comparing it to EQ since that's where I came from. In WoW you were able to solo to 50 with any class even in beta aswell, that's pretty much what I meant by casual friendly. After that the term has evolved (devolved?) into something that is much, much different though. I enjoyed WoW for quite some time aswell pre-expansions, so not just bashing on it. :)
  4. Not all its files are overwritten, check the armor folder ;)I checked in Wrye Bash and it says the only "matched" file still there is the readme document, odd. Only files in the armor-folder are the shields, and they're all overwritten by HSR as that includes hold-shields.
  5. Not a bug-report per say, but an observation. This mod: Detailed Guard Shields and Banners Has ALL it's files overwritten by other mods in STEP. (By Tattered Banners and Hvelgelmirs Shield Retexture). This might ofcourse be intended so that people who skip one of the other mods gets that version instead, but just seemed a bit off to me. :)
  6. Mimicking the #1 western MMO has been the case forever yeah, not even WoW was different in that regard as it was a EQ-clone but with more streamlining etc to make it "casual friendly". Sadly it's that "casual friendly" attitude that has just kept getting stronger and stronger in WoW and more recent MMOs. :(

Ah right, I forgot to post about it. I did notice about 3-4fps difference when changing from the default value to the 500/0 value. I ended up putting it those values myself however as mentioned in OP. :)
  8. There are comparisons to 2.1 in the preview vid I watched a couple of days ago. There was text popping up saying 2.1 and 3.0 in the bottom of the screen. If this was another video then I apologize. :)
  9. Sounds of Skyrim - Crash Fix gives you a bugged out "slashing sound" when any 'message' pops up on the screen, such as when quicksaving, an ASI script loads, harvesting etc etc, when used together with Improved Combat Sound v2.0. This is because ICS has to load before SoS, but with the crash fix for SoS you can't do that as it esmified the SoS esp's. To fix this, go to the optional downloads of Improved Combat Sounds and download the fix. NOTE: Currently BOSS sorts that fix incorrectly to load before Improved Combat Sounds v2.0.esp. Move it manually to load after it, or it won't work. I have reported to the BOSS-thread about it, so BOSS should sort it correctly soon hopefully. Edit: BOSS is now updated to sort it correctly.
  10. I understand where you're coming from, but look at this way: you only need to learn how to use each tool once, then you can use them whenever you want. :) Using DDSOPT as in the guide is actually a lot easier than it might look (since the guide is rather long), and I don't think you'll regret following it! ;)
  11. Using DDSOPT is definitely the best if you want to lower VRAM usage. Simply following the wikipost is your best bet. Optimizer Textures does pretty much the same thing but you have less control over it.
  12. The fake-HDDs should be removed by the script when you're done with running it. Atleast it did for me. Otherwise a reboot should fix it.
  13. When extracting via DDSOPT, make sure the lower section only says for example "E:\DDSOpt\out" and not "E:\DDSOpt\out.bsa". Browse and select Use Folder on the map where you want the results to be sure. Sounds like you had DDSOPT set up to make the result a bsa-file aswell.
  14. Having seen parts of the article, I am quite intrigued. I like that they are going the way of EverQuest/UO etc with public dungeons rather than having *everything* instanced. But we'll see, I'll remain sceptical. :)
  15. Luckily there aren't many mods that would attempt to edit the records he has deleted. I did have CtDs constantly in many areas when I last tried it, but when I tried it now it seemed to run fine in Whiterun atleast (an area I used to crash instantly in with 2.5). I've deleted quite a few mods that could conflict though. :) But indeed, when it works it's a lovely mod.
  16. Quoting myself from another thread on these forums about this mod: Now ofcourse, it DOES work for a lot of people aswell, but if I was in charge I wouldn't find it "safe" enough for STEP. I have informed the author about it some time ago and he said thanks for the info etc on how to handle the issue in the future, but I don't think he got around to fixing it as sounded like he would simply consider it for his next project. Edit: Had a look at the new esp (last I checked and when I informed him was at 2.5) and it had 1337 UDRs. 2.5 had 1044. :(
  17. Do you mean Ambient Occlusion? In all of my settings, ingame AA is always set to 4x. No, I meant AF. :) You had yours at 16x and Quality, with Anisotropic sample optimization on. I always had that off (default) and the quality setting at High Quality. I didn't really notice a difference when changing to your settings, but I gained a lot of FPS. And thanks, had mine set at 4x aswell but just wanted to make sure.
  18. Oh and one more thing...with 1x2 SSA + 2 AA, or 4x4 SSAA, do you set ingame AA to 4 or 8? Not quite sure how that would need to be done to get it correctly.
  19. @stoppingby4now: Wow, was playing around with your settings some. Tried the highest quality setting for starters just to see how hard the hit would be, and indeed my fps was pretty darn low with that + ENB with SSAO/DoF running. Then I noticed your AF changes, implemented those and had a MASSIVE fps gain over the High Qual settings I used there before. Much, much more than I would gain.. Always thought the hit from AF was pretty darn minor.
  20. That's the only way to prepare for any promising MMO tbh. ;)
  21. I looked at this mod some time ago, reason I didn't try it was that some of the guards simply didn't look like "guards" anymore in my opinion. Some of them are excellent though.
  22. Yeah, I use 109 already and it improved performance quite a bit which ofc meant I could up the settings some. :) Currently working on finding a stable OC for my gpu as it has great onboard fans (DCUII). Great for being onboard fans that is. Should help out aswell.
  23. Thanks for sharing, I'll do some more testing with different AA settings. I'm using ENB for SSAO/DoF and bloom etc, so that lowers performance quite a bit. Been trying out a 2x AA + 2 SSAA + SMAA mix currently which seems to work decently, more testing always helps!
  24. They conflict yes. Unless you use Wrye Bash and make a bashed patch, then they work perfectly fine together.
  25. I've tried it, but only very briefly. It is definitely well written, the characters they added have real depth to the dialogue. Only about half the NPCs they added have voice acting so far though, but the voice acting they have is high quality. I haven't tried (or found) the quests however so can't comment on that part at all.
