Are both large textures mods really necessary?
Vond replied to Spiffyman's question in General Skyrim LE Support
What I've been doing is using SRO as the main replacer, but installing Skyrim HD aswell, just very very low priority in WB (even HRDLC overwrites it). That way it ONLY overwrites the optimized files from Skyrim - Textures.bsa, and nothing else. That way I get a few higher res versions of certain files that other mods or the DLC didn't fix only. Probably not worth it if you have a slow connection though as you'd download several gb of data and only use a few mb, but hey I live in Sweden so internet speed isn't an issue. ;) -
I had read that, but Bokeh DOF also stopped working when I tried it. I had heard it was working with 1.09 as well, but I have had no luck. ATI card then I guess? DoF/SSAO didn't work with ENB 0.109 until the last betaversion he released. That version still has the grass/underwater issue for ATI too though, just not Nvidia. Next version that should be released in the next 24h most likely if his forums are a clue, will have that fixed aswell + his new improved shadows.

Weapon sound plays when picking up items or saving
Vond replied to BigBadBanana's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Improved Combat Sounds, did you download the fix from the Optional section of that file on Nexus? (Granted you did get Improved Combat Sounds). And if you did, make sure that fix is loaded after all sound-mods in your loadorder. That should fix it, it even fixes the issue with another mod (werewolf perktree-mod that my brother uses that caused a werewolf howl in all those situations) if loaded after it. -
Yeah I haven't noticed any fpsdrop with More Rain (or More Snow by same author). I use the 66% less view distance when raining option, as I feel it's more immersive aswell on top of helping performance. :)

The reason it causes bloat is because of an issue that causes constant drizzle (almost unnoticeable) even indoors etc. RLwC was considering just removing the scripts/esp and keeping the textures and sounds since those are still better than vanilla. Personally I've followed that example and use the textures+sounds together with More Rain.

1gb is better than 1.28gb? ;) -

I use the 1024 version as I only have 1280mb on my GPU. Wouldn't recommend the 2048 option for anyone with less than 1.5gb memory on their GPU, possible even 2gb -
Are both large textures mods really necessary?
Vond replied to Spiffyman's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Necessary, no. It's personal preference which people prefer. I don't use Skyrim HD 2k at all since they differ quite a bit from the original textures, whilst SRO follow the original theme nicely but just.. looks better. -
This is really tempting. Too bad I heard about this after I finished setting up my loadorder for the playthru, but think I might actually change to this instead... Lots of mods I currently use will be unnecessar/uncompatible though it seems such as the ACE mods (awesome perk changes), Duel - Combat Realism, Enhanced High Level Gameplay, Deadly Dragons, Minor Magic Overhaul etc etc. Might be worth it though, and re-installing everything if I prefer the old setup isn't exactly hard. :)

Screen resolution and VRAM info
Vond replied to Vond's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Ran some tests last night, but sadly forgot to save the results in SPM. :( I do remember the basics though, and when playing for longer periods of time over more varied areas etc the avg/max is actually very similar with 1680 vs 1440. However, the avg fps stayed higher with 1440 compared to 1680 (pretty much never dropped below 35 at all with 1440 which is where I lock fps at, whereas 1680 would drop to 25-28 very often for prolonged periods of time in the outdoors). -
That is fixed in ENB 1.09

SMCO - Skyrim Mods Complex Optimizer? Anyone used this?
Vond replied to Vond's question in General Skyrim LE Support
It's one of the last loaded, usually you can see it tries to load that .nif more than once -

SoS - The Wilds works fine if you use the crash fix though, shouldn't be that at all methinks? -

I haven't really noticed any difference at all, but I've only optimized the loose meshes, not touched the meshes that are in bsas added by mods yet (which should be the majority of the meshes I have). -

Usually that can be fixed by deleting Skyrim.esm and verifying cache after that As for freezes, I had 2 major freezes last night whilst playing a long session. One was in Whiterun and one just outside Whiterun. Both forced me to ctrl+alt+del out of the game but luckily I had recent saves -
Are the devs telling everyone to download the SVN?? Is 295.5 not still up on the Nexus? They are only supporting 295.5 right now. Otherwise they would release the SVN as a 296 Beta ;) EDIT: Still waiting for Monty and Beald to chime in on this topic, as I suspect our brethren across the pond may be inclined toward deliberation and consistency ... They are telling everyone to download 296 yes. They also tell everyone that they don't supply support for 295.5. And as I said about Nexus, the people that are currently actively working on fixing WB don't have access to upload 296 to Nexus, it's been discussed quite a bit in the WB threads on Beth forums. :)

sorry s4n, I am lost. Can you be more specific? What is DLC2? Only STD vanilla has textures\landscape\trees\treepineforestbranchcomp.dds (HRDLC does not, only the normals... I still have to test the normals BTW) Increase in detail of the DDSopt versions? Skyrim Flora Overhaul has it aswell btw, worth mentioning as it is in STEP. All files you mentioned above are there actually.

Sadly I haven't kept most of my logs, only a few. But I do know I've seen that a lot, but I'd wager in most situations it doesn't actually remove anything noticeable. Will have a look though for sure.
-
Aha, nice find! Not sure what other type of objects besides trees would be using non-1:1 aspect ratio textures. Any clues?

Base exclusions can be found here: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\SkyrimMTO\exclusions_base.txt -
I have skipped Cloaks of Skyrim when running DDSOPT on all my mods (I do it one mod at a time, unpack to a backup location, optimize, pack a new .7z etc) for these very reasons, can't believe I forgot to post about it. Cloaks would turn "plastic" etc. The difference in filesize was quite huge too, from the standard of ~11 (off the top of my head) to ~3.

Personally I find it easier to use BOSS with 296 than it is to use BOSS+BUM with 295.5 though, and only using BOSS doesn't work with 295.5 ;) Anyway ofcourse the bashed patch functionality isn't needed for a pure STEP-install, but I also think it will end up really annoying for the people working on WB currently if people here are encouraged to use 295.5, as that will lead to more questions in the WB thread that they wouldn't need to ask if they simply used the latest version. Only reason 296 is still SVN and not on Nexus is because none of the people with access to the nexus-site for WB is currently active (moving etc), it is considered the stable version. Anyway it's not my call obviously, but that's my 2cp!

Next thing to put on the exclude lists: any hair .nif's -

OpticShooters and Kivans meshes are in the exclusion-lists (except some from WATER 1.4 as it's newer than latest SMCO version). Brumbecks meshes didn't seem to be excluded as they still worked fine after being optimized, but he was running tests checking if there was any exceptions. So far the only issues I've had was with new meshes from WATER, and I've almost finished installing everything and optimizing loose meshes. Then it's time for .bsa's. Bethesda .bsa's are excluded aswell, not sure if that was because of possible crashes or just by choice. So far I've reduced my meshes folder approx ~20-25mb, so it's nothing major. -
Well, one of the selling points with WB is load ordering and merging leveled lists. SVN version is needed for the first, and does the second much, much better than 295.5. If the guide only covers actual installation via WB then yeah, 295.5 works just aswell for that part. :) And SVN isn't really hard to install, as you simply install 295.5 normally and then take the Mopy folder from SVN version and overwrite all old files inside the Mopy folder with those files.
