Easy, D - FixesEssential mods that fix bugs and tweak deficient aspects of Skyrim. Well maybe not. My preference would still be UI, simply because the changes are in an UI element, albeit a menu not the game screen.
-
This mod might also be looking odd because of the odd placement. I haven't checked the homes, but going off the screenshots, the chimneys look wrong because most homes of that style, especially those with thatched roofs, should have the chimney on the gable ends or exiting at the peak of the roofline. Placing them there avoids the potential fire hazard that user comments have noted. I'm not sure if that is due to the placement by Bethesda of the fireplaces themselves or a purely aesthetic choice by the modder. If it is due to Bethesda I'm not sure what could be done about that unless all the internal structure was re-arranged, not a good option.

"Yeah its definitely an Gameplay mod. It makes no changes to the UI of the Dragonborn as to what factions he/she can join, only reminds him/her of which ones are current." On reflection, my previous post did sound a tad dogmatic and after seeing the reasoning of others I can see why it could fall into either, or neither, of those categories, hence this 'edited' post to balance it out.

MOD ORGANIZER "can't delete output file" Error
GrantSP replied to greekgod14's question in Mod Organizer Support
You no that old gag about tech support where the tech guy says: have you rebooted your computer? I'm going start using that. :) -
Ah well there was a new plugin made to handle the UI mods for the Fallout series, maybe you missed that if your focus is on Skyrim. Im away from my computer right now and I can't test it.

MOD ORGANIZER "can't delete output file" Error
GrantSP replied to greekgod14's question in Mod Organizer Support
I believe there is a new Steam feature that allows you to move games to another location outside of the Steam folder. Doing it their way also ensures all the registry settings are correct. I do recall seeing something a little while back about it. Try YouTube, there's bound to dozens of videos showing you what to do. My only concern though is what I stated above, since you had it installed and working before, it still should work now. -
Even after the update? It seemed to when I tried it. Maybe I'm going blind.

pack A Real Explorer's Guide to Skyrim
GrantSP replied to CJ2311's topic in Step Skyrim LE Packs (retired)
Are you sure that is what the message is/was? Seems very odd to me. Why would a Skyrim mod need a file from Oblivion Data? -
MO says some of my mods aren't installing fully?
GrantSP replied to gammitgames's question in Mod Organizer Support
Unrelated to the issue at hand. The dialogs are from the installation process and the 'Run' dropdown menu merely shows the current selection, not what is active in the screen. -
MOD ORGANIZER "can't delete output file" Error
GrantSP replied to greekgod14's question in Mod Organizer Support
Ordinarily I would point out the fact that installing into C:\Program Files (x86) isn't the preferred option, but since you already were able to install mods, and presumably play the game, with that directory used, I'd guess there is something else at work here. The error seems to indicate that another process has control of that file and isn't allowing the delete function a chance to continue, so my next question would be: do you have any explorer windows or other programs open with that file active? Next I would look at whether Windows has recently updated and perhaps changed access restrictions on some folders, unlikely but you never know unless you ask. Have you installed any software updates, either Windows or Anti-Virus software in the last couple of days? -
You don't even have to close down MO, just choose 'Refresh' from the small menu under the first of three icons at the top right of the left-hand pane.
-
Shouldn't be necessary. The internal installer works fine now and it actually formats the options better than the current external installer.
-
Yeah its definitely an UI mod. It makes no changes to the gameplay of the Dragonborn as to what factions he/she can join, only reminds him/her of which ones are current.

FALLOUT3 Descriptive Icons for Fallout 3 (by MistakenMystic)
GrantSP replied to GrantSP's topic in Fallout 3 Mods
I've got a question that I hope can be answered here. Although my icons show up nicely in the PipBoy, when they are shown in the inventory screens of storage containers, they clip over the graphic line in the bottom left. I know it isn't the size of the *.dds that is doing it, I have carefully used the same size, so what would be causing that? Does there have to be a fixed area of blank space around each graphic element inside the *.dds? Using the screenshots above as guide the part of the icon that appears above the "Repair R" line is what clips over. There must be some blank space needed. If anyone knows the desired amount needed, it would greatly appreciated. For now I'll redo them with some different spacing and see what happens. -
Then you have a load order issue, probably in the left-hand pane. In my setup there are 18 files in this mod that overwrite the UUFO3P, and 11 files in this mod being overwritten by; Robert's Male Body, DIMONIZED Type 3 Female & LiL An Eye Improvement. Most likely, if disabling Redesigned fixes it, you have a conflict with one or more of those mods. Can you enter the console and see which assets are missing? Redesigned only handles heads and hands I think, so that should narrow it down.
-
I'm going to ask this simply because the number of new MO users lately that forget, or are unaware of, this is amazing. Have you installed ALL your mods ONLY with MO and not by any other means, Steam, NMM etc.? Mod Organizer MUST have a clean 'Data' folder to work with and various issues may arise if it can't manage all the assets found there.

Are you using a save from before Fallout Redesigned was loaded? When I went through my install, I too found my character was missing a texture or two, as well as some NPCs and dead bodies around the RobCo factory. After starting a fresh save however they were fixed. My save was the one I used after the initial game run to check the UI elements were working.

Skyrim won't start even no Bethesda logo
GrantSP replied to drkalbar's question in General Skyrim LE Support
It appears that @Tannin is happy with the temporary solution of employing a 'process_blacklist.txt' in MO's root directory that contains two lines: Steam.exe Steamerrorreporter.exeBoth the Bug Genie and the Nexus home page show this as a valid workaround. Well done to all that provided the needed information. -
My 2c worth. Microsoft Security Essentials + Malwarebytes Anti-Malware + Common sense. Or to put it another way. These tools, MSE especially, don't always get the greatest reviews but if you use your computer wisely you shouldn't be in a position to be at risk. No hard evidence to support this next statement but, 99% of all infections are the result of wandering into a site that you shouldn't be in and downloading something you shouldn't be getting. If you sleep with dogs you will end up with fleas.

ACCEPTED Burn Freeze Shock Effects (by pauderek)
GrantSP replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
You can't move 'BSFEffects.esp' up in the 'Optionals' tab because it is the ONLY plugin available, doing so will make it unusable by the game! Also you can't install BOTH plugins from the 'Optional' section of the mod's Downloads page because they the same named plugin, doing this will mean overwriting the original. It is recommended to install the 'Dragonborn Dawnguard' version and use that one. -
What esp's do you merge? (Compatible Merges)
GrantSP replied to Jverv's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
It may pay you to read the wiki about this, specifically the section that deals with the 'Overwrite'. What @Nozzer66 is outlining here is a routine to keep the 'overwrite' clear of the files/folders that get gemerated after using those patchers. So in the left-hand pane there could be some new mods made by you to handle: SUM, DSR, ASIS, PerMa, FNIS or any other mod you like. Whenever you use those tools the 'overwrite' folder will contain some files that can be moved, drag/dropped, into those mods. So you run ASIS and some files/folders end up in the 'overwrite' folder. Double-click that folder in the left-hand pane to open its window. Select the files that need to be moved and drag/drop them onto the mod in the left-hand pane for ASIS. Repeat this for all the other patchers. This is necessary since every file in the 'overwrite' folder will ALWAYS win in a conflict and this will throw out your order if they aren't cared for. Although there are some in STEP that don't always follow this rule, you should always keep the 'overwrite' clear. What @Nozzer66 outlines is a good routine to get in the habit of following. -
Something is Preventing Skyrim from Running
GrantSP replied to p4ck3tl055's question in Mod Organizer Support
Can someone that has experienced this issue check the Bug Genie, p4ck3tl055 seems to have successfully applied the suggestion offered by @Tannin and now it appears to work. We just need a few other users to confirm it before the 'fix' can be considered official. EDIT: Although this thread is specific to Skyrim, I'm lead to believe it applies in all the games so it can be looked at by non-Skyrim users. -
Skyrim won't start even no Bethesda logo
GrantSP replied to drkalbar's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hang on, so you have Win8.x but you don't experience this issue? That makes you and @Tannin the only two so far, everyone else apparently that has Win8.x has that issue. Users like myself on Win7 seem to be immune. Can you post links to your plugins and modlist and perhaps any other relevant details that might be impacting on this, like ENBs or similar? Also make mention of whether your BSAs are extracted or not, just in case there is some connection. If we can narrow the search down somewhat it will all help. On the Windows error logs suggestion. From what I gather this isn't so much a 'crash' as a 'hang' and Windows probably doesn't register this particular type of software glitch as it isn't impacting on the OS, just the game code. Steam on the other hand does store dumps from misbehaving games. They will perhaps be helpful. On my system they are simply in a folder called 'dumps' under the main Steam folder.
