Skyrim 1.8 Beta
stoppingby4now replied to frihyland's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
What are you talking about? :| I believe that's a reference to their releasing a DLC for consoles first, then for Windows 30 days later. -
Well imagine that, a very fitting use for that thread rainbow icon. :P

We were going to do a mass import of mod pages (but hasn't happened yet), which is why the pages were all removed. I'll just wait till we really are going to do the mass import before deleting it again.

If the second one was copied from the ini file, your missing the letter "a" in General. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2

New Open Source Font designed for programming
stoppingby4now replied to frihyland's topic in Step Banter Inn
I like the fonts. Trying it out in NetBeans, and pleased with the result. -
I highly doubt it's RAM related since the total usage you are reporting isn't hitting your max installed. With 1GB VRAM, that is more likely the primary contributor of the freezes. When looking at the Memory usage in the Performance tab, that figure is the total of all processes actively using memory. You will need to click on the "Resource Monitor" button in the Performance tab and look for TESV.exe. The "Working Set" column will tell you how much total physical RAM it is using.

Skyrim Thriller

That was a really well done machinima. -
The ~3.2GB limit is only true on a 32 bit OS, and it actually comes in less than that due to the OS reserve.

I'm not sure what is causing your CTD's, but having an executable that can use 4GB of memory does not mean it will automatically consume that much. Skryim will only use what it needs for caching textures and other resources, and nothing more.

Skyrim playing up

Do you have a boxed version of the game? That might explain the key not existing, which would mean I need to account for that. More annoyances. :P -

With version 1.5b I'm determining if a game is installed from the uninstall area of the registry. Just for curiosities sake, you can check the following registry key to see if it exists: x32 - HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam App 72850 x64 - HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432NodeMicrosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam App 72850 If Skyrim was installed via Steam, that key should exist. It's interesting that it's not showing you the version information or updating the state, especially if it was still doing its job. -
If it were a zombie, I would have killed it already. :D I wanted an actual executable though since you can't set a .bat script to run as administrator through Properties. Employing this trick to re-package ENB configs.

Lighting mods will definitely affect how textures look as they all play with color space. ENB based configs modify the scene post process, whereas mods like Realistic Lighting work with the HDR in-game directly (same with Imaginator). Two different approaches, but the end result can alter how the textures look whether it be due to color saturation, brightness, contrast, color shifting, etc. These modifications can also cause detail to look sharper or more dull.

What version of Skyrim Unplugged are you using? I'm curious if you are using 1.5b due to your comment about it not showing the version, unless you are referring to something else. At the same time, 1.5b shouldn't allow you to delete the files without enabling updates, but you can if using 1.4. -
I've created an EXE to make the softlink named "root" (and delete it if it exists) in the Data directory. Makes it easier since you can set this to run as administrator on the executable itself.

The functionality itself wouldn't be hard as a separate system. -

He's using the site to provide a comparison of the images (Vanilla is default image, mouseover is DDSOpt image). I didn't know about that site, but it's really handy for providing online comparisons. -
Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
stoppingby4now replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
That is called Specular Aliasing. It will be seen regardless if AA is turned on or off because AA only affects the edges of objects. FXAA will clear it on the cheap side (though will introduce texture shimmering), or SGSSAA as JudgementJay described (with a performance loss). -
ACCEPTED ENBSeries (by Boris Vorontsov)
stoppingby4now replied to frihyland's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
I think they are waiting for a "stable" release before working on updating.Yeah, just stating for those that may not realize that, and prevent any headaches from ENB configs possibly not looking their best with the newer versions of ENBSeries.- 182 replies

Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
stoppingby4now replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Could you give a more concise example of what you are referring to with texture shimmering? There are three main items that people will sometimes refer to as texture shimmering. The first is z-fighting, which is most noticeable on distant objects such as the mountains, but it is not texture shimmering. It's a side effect of two planes existing in the same space where each scene render can end up with one plane winning over the other at any given moment. Torminater's INI settings will help that a lot. The second is a texture shimmering effect occurring on the edges of objects themselves, which is directly related to pure AA. It's really just a matter of the AA of the object not blending well with the surrounding background. Turning off AA will reduce the affect (but not completely eliminate it) at the cost of not having edges smoothed. This is typically only noticeable on very small objects such as grass, bars in windows, wood slats seen from a distance, etc. Lastly is pure texture shimmering, which is directly related to, and occurs on, the textures themselves. Pure AA does not effect texture shimmering in this regard, but full screen rendering engines like FXAA does (SMAA greatly reduces the effect last I checked). It can also occur from post process injectors which modify the full screen view post process. This is typically only noticeable on textures with very fine detail (especially on smaller objects) where each pass on a scene renders slightly differently from it's previous view as the object or the viewer moves. This is largely due to these methods not having any kind of fidelity in their samples to ensure a consistent render, and results in pixels being slightly out of place between renders, causing them to appear to "dance". If you are experiencing any of the above at night, they should be visible during the day as well. -

Unfortunately a lot of the ENB configs out there aren't supporting anything higher than 113.- 182 replies

Agree on all points for the most part. Though, in some cases folks just don't know what they can do with either brand, and if they had the knowledge going in they may have made a different choice (in either direction). For my older UNIX workstations I use ATI cards when I don't have on-board video and just need a cheap video card. I also don't try to play games in Linux either though. The one exception is my HTPC where I'm using an Nvidia card for High Definition audio support (in Linux), which is not possible with ATI (for now at least).

Drivers have everything to do with it. It doesn't matter whether you use the Control Panel or nvidia inspector, they are "driver" flags and thus are directly related to the drivers. Can't argue with that. The use of ENB is game specific. While you can use some ENB versions with other various games, not all results will be the same (and some are quite horrible). Having the options that nvidia inspector provides is still very much invaluable. You also have to consider the amount of frustration developers have when creating injectors that work with ATI. Reading a lot of Boris' commentary on how much he hates ATI when trying to get aspects of ENB to work on it can be quite amusing. Nvidia has far better support for un-supported "features" than ATI. The way I see the difference between ATI and Nvidia, is what the user expects to get out of it. For the non-tweakers, ATI is definitely the winner in PPP. For those wishing to get the best visual quality on a consistent basis regardless of the game, Nvidia is the reigning champion (albeit at a price premium).
