Me too. But, you and Aiyen have giant cats. Those aren't run of mill tabbies. I worked on the x-47b replacement, the UCLASS, before leaving the DOD. Right now I don't have any cats though, but I often foster them. I do have four dogs though, two bull mastiffs and two mutts. Also, have three box turtles. I would have more pets but my girlfriend is out of town since she works for the ambassador to Mexico. With two mastiffs there is way to much to pick up in my yard already. I also have no children, so I get to sleep every night. [emoji14]

Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - pre 2.xx
EssArrBee replied to sheson's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
Well, I'm a bit stumped on the whole mini atlas thing. I've tried it a couple different ways and can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. It should just read my loose files from the Data folder and make the mini atlases or do I need to change something or move files around? -
Redoing my main bathroom and I haven't destroyed anything, yet. Girlfriend is out of town. Infinite beer, no pants. Dogs got a bath yesterday, so they don't smell like dirt. I'm a teacher so work is meh. Hockey playoffs are awesome as always. EDIT: 6k posts, Whoooo!!!!

I'm not sure people realize how much 25% is. Do you think your company pays you 25% worth of the revenue you generate? I doubt it. I doubt that I get 25% of the revenue of the tuition from my students. Actually, I've never done the math, and now that I think about it, I probably get about 25%. I do teach two large classes (up to 80 students) though so that probably has something to do with it. But, everyone knows teachers are extremely underpaid. Anyways, what I mean is that in the real world for your real job you will get much less of the revenue percentage for your work than Valve is offering. Ask anyone in the food service industry if you get 25%. What is the going rate for tipping your waiter/waitress? 15% and $2.15 an hour.

any source files/folders are not needed. Those are provided for mod authors that may need them. Any other files can be drag and dropped into the folder that should be the Data folder. So for DCF you can drag the readme.txt to the Data folder and then set that as the data directory and ignore the source folder.
-
The Blazing Ringsword is $.25. I think that may be the lowest. Maybe that's just in 'Merica.
-
You need to right click on the folder that should represent the Data folder and select 'Set data directory'. What's happening is that some mods are packed in a way that mod managers can't install them properly because they can't 'see' Skryim folder structure.

The people giving off hate and offering nothing in return will fade away after a few days. The people that want to have an actual dialogue about this will be able to do so after the knuckleheads cry themselves to sleep. Now that I think about the whole thing some more I remember hearing Wrye give a talk about the Austin GDC a few years ago about how valuable modding could be to devs. The implementation may be a bit terrible, but the truth is that this has been on the horizon for quite a while. I think the ability to get mods for free should never go away, but a payment model is probably here to stay. It needs to be fair to the users though. The worst case scenario is not being able to have 500 mods installed without dropping a grand on a load order. The best case scenario is that someone won't have to work some sh**y job anymore and could mod fulltime. The part about the video makers making money off of mods while modders aren't is a pretty good point. I'd actually be concerned about that if I made mods that people were using to make money and I wasn't making anything. Gopher also released a video about the Steam Workshop that he threw together really quick. He urged caution and told people to remain civil. That didn't work obviously.
-
Game devs probably get much less than 25% for their work. Do you think the game devs for GTAV got 25% of the total revenue? That would be like $750 million+ dollars, probably going to be about $1 billion soon enough.
-
The hate going toward modders that have decided to use the system is quite abhorrent. You can't go around saying that we are a great community if that is how you act. Isuko did not handle his mod updates well, but the hate and entitlement from mod users is quite sickening to me. This stuff has always been free and it will always be free. Going forward there just isn't going to be 100% of mods released for free. I don't have to like it, but it's happening and I'm not going to spread that type of hate toward people because they make their own choices. Chesko wrote about the reason he decided to go forth with this: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s53/sh/3c4f3e29-9b4e-41cf-9a72-1b3ed9f70c62/c727dccbb3398aebb5946afac7faaaea I suggest you read it all the way through because it is quite compelling.

Hey, aren't you a mod author dude?
-
I think they missed an opportunity to do something really nice. They could have made it a pay what you want model, kinda like Humble Bundle with a free option. That would have really made it a nice way to support modders, but not cut some people off who can't pay for content.
-
Apparently there is a pay what you want option in the Steam Workshop that author's can set. That might be cool if you have a zero dollar option.
-
No, that's not what I mean. I'm talking about mods that are ONLY behind paywalls or mods that were free and went behind paywalls. I would support Wet & Cold v1.4x that is the current verison on the Nexus, but would not support v2. That would be the author's responsibility, since the way I see it, is that someone paid for that support.
-
As long as there is a free version on the Nexus, I don't see any reason not to use it. v2 looked exciting, but we probably aren't going to be in the business of requiring paid mods for STEP. We only require official content that costs money.
-
Maybe we'll see more mods like this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=430718983&searchtext= The description says it all.
-
Damn, just saw this on the /r/skyrimmods thread for Steam Workshop. It's from the Workshop page about payments: A bunch of people waiting till it hits $100 are going to be very angry.
-
I've paid for some mods before that were source engine stuff, but those were put through QA and had professional support behind them after Valve allowed those to change money. A la Gone Home or Dear Esther. If something that was DLC sized and had that same amount of scrutiny put behind it, then I would consider paying for it, but it better be some DLC sized mod like Falskaar and it better be like $5 or less. This 1.99 for an armor when I've already acquired Immersive Armors for free isn't going to cut it. Oh and that armor is only obtainable through the console? WTF? This is biggest issue I have. We aren't getting paid to support these mods if they have problems.

pack A Real Explorer's Guide to Skyrim
EssArrBee replied to CJ2311's topic in Step Skyrim LE Packs (retired)
I'm not sure how we manage this either. I think I'll open a dialogue privately with people that write guides to see how we should approach this a little later when we have some more info on the way mods will be selected by the Steam Workshop. -
Well, app devs get 70%, but they don't end up with 70% after they pay their licensing fees. If you make a game and have to license the engine then you owe money for that, just as an example. Bethesda made the CK, so they get their share up front instead of the backend. Steam/Valve get their share up front to. I'm worried about how these mods are supported now. Do I get a refund if it doesn't work and is unstable? What is the protocol for mod making it through verification? I'd have to say that it may cause an issue for a few mods in different STEP guides if a mod goes paid only. We have to troubleshoot and support our guides, but not for something that already cost money. We aren't getting a cut for the S&T.
-
I get wanting to pocket some cash from a lot of hard work, but what do I get in return besides the mod? Do I get support for your mod that may not be stable? Do I get a refund if it's unstable? I wish they started slower and did something like Valve did with Source engine mods. They choose the mods they want to support and allow people to charge for. You can't just show up and slap a price tag on a couple Portal maps. They have a bit of scrutiny going into this stuff. I imagine mod piracy is going to be a thing now that some of these are behind paywalls. By the way, anyone gotta link for that Shadowscale Armor?
-
Isuko? Noooooooooooooooooooo....
-
We also have permissions for raiserfx's mods. *wink*wink*

Actual shot of the first and third person perspectives makes the engine look mucho caliente to me.
