  1. What location are you referring to
  2. I would but that is me... there is literally no harm done and performance maybe negligible hit but I have not done any benchmarks... [spoiler=I misread what you said...] if it was a perfect world, yes and it should be standard to use them but since people use parallax and when mod authors are modding meshes they use the vanilla ones for their base it kinda defeats the purpose That being said if you are experiencing flickering then try them out otherwise its unnecessary... I was thinking about making a proper patch for ETaC because MJB finds them to be not needed
  3. That exactly what I was going to say. In theory it'll work but in reality its doesnt... The best way to test is to literally play the game for an endurance run. In one test I purposely played the game for 12 hrs and not a single crash. What was my LO, I dont remember, it was in the days of when I used NMM
  4. its was for the 32bit OS... I cant remember what it did exactly but maybe allow more than the 2.2 GB memory limit but I could be incorrect
  5. well... The esp can be incompatible/inconsistent with other mods Talking about meshes: the bad is that they can be overwritten or overwrite. the good is there should be no more flickering... Heres a quote from the ELFX page Just so you know... light flickering isnt really the lights flickering. its a given material toggling if it can receive light on a mesh... Its a long story... If I find the post I made I'll link it.
  6. the ELFX meshes are just fine to use with any game. bust can override parallax meshes or be overwritten by parallax meshes
  7. Thank you, its been awhile since I have done anything major to the guide... I need to go through an finish my edits likely next weekend but there is sooooo much. I dislike what I did with the normal instructions... so I'll go through that a different day I added and removed a few things... I made an incompatibles section so that mods that were removed can be tracked. the whole ococccm thing, I'll do but it just takes forever.
  8. the patches for ELFX are generally meshes, unless there is an esp. The meshes do hurt but will help with reducing light flickering effects In other words its fine even if you dont use ELFX.. just if a patch has an ELFX esp that you dont use then just delete it
  9. hmmm, did you redownload the archives and then reinstall them. Delete and re-add them to the executable list in MO try it Do you do anything to the .jar files after downloading them?
  10. I dont think it maters just us a normal save and not a quick save or autosave...
  11. Here is a Real Shelter vid hopefully its applicable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsNgjuaU42M&list=UUF1Qkw7OUG4JmIrw1QI-oWg
  12. It seems like its one scroll tick down. On my guide, in the first block of text I have a link with the text OBSE and its a good example
  13. I know exactly what you mean. Make a Topic on the wiki forum. s4n will get it sorted
  14. the warnings and whatnot are definitely templates though yeah parser functions are to but is it really needed? Does anyone actually use them? If so, link a page. Same goes with variables. Both of those seem like wiki development to me... Its up to DoubleYou and s4n since they seem to understand the most about SMW. EDIT: Temporarily using the css that I made. Hopefully, finding the different headers will be easier
  15. those are not magic words but rather templates... Ill move things around magic words are these https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Magic_words They are in the form of all caps and no spaces and between two underscores on either side like __NOTOC__ is common with small pages that really dont need a toc to navigate Like the Unofficial Chat wiki I found as I was writing it was always in the way and ruining the flow and formatting
  16. I would say use alternate start and then select I was caught crossing the boarder It may alleviate some of the new game stress
  17. I didn't want to write another novice guide because it takes a ton of work.... I figured lets raise the level a little bit but not forgetting about the person that knows nothing(this is where the links help). I think this is going to rely on people joining the discussion adding what they think and then moving on. In doing so the writing stage will take longer but the final produce should be significantly better. This will work as long as there are people chipping in every once and awhile to give their 2 cents whether it be through discussion or adding it. I don't know... Lets see what happens over time
  18. That seems like 1. lot of maintenance 2. confusing So I liked the questions that you previously asked and for once I actually gave this a second thought I think I'll be focusing on what STEP does, where to find the info for the easy stuff(you said there is plenty of content out there and I agree), and describing the more difficult. Does that make sense or is it flawed? Ill also be moving the page to edit to Doubleyou's
  19. I don't think there is any reason to untick certain mods when patching because I don't think the patcher cares if a mod is ticked or not. I know stats could be weird sometimes but that is really it. As for the mods I can say they are all good other than the companions one because I have never used it but by the sounds of it should be fine
  20. I would say, leave EnableCompression=false It can cause a good amount of stutter and personally I have never seen or felt any benefit with it
  21. its kinda compatible.... meaning it will not ruin a save but rather it means that some places might not have the box or whatever its called. The patcher is for the weathers I believe but there is an ETaC patch on the mod page for Real shelter
  22. Its supposed to be geared more toward directing the potential writer to get started (STEP specific), direct them where to find general info, describing STEP specific things like templates and whatnot. So the guide would be a mix but I kinda want to leave the more generic stuff out but still have a link to where to find specific examples. Like I had previously stated, when I was starting I had no idea where to even look and when I did find out that it was mediawiki their site is a pain to find anything unless you search for it. When there is someone that wants to write something which I don't know about you but I pm'd Ess which helped me out but it still took me quite awhile to figure out where that I need to go(several days) because I had zero clue what I was doing. I think it would be way helpful if all the info that was needed was on one page. On the page it'll have STEP specific instructions and expectations that will guide them over on how things are done on STEP, where to look for info, who to ask for help and etc. Hmm, maybe I need to think on this a little more and seeing what other say before jumping in but that last statement -in my mind- sums it up pretty well I glanced through that forum more than once and it appears to be focused on templates rather than help.
  23. I think there is a mod that did that... Frostfall? requiem? RN&D?
  24. Hmm, the problem is that I dont even know where to start... Here is a temporary link until DoubleYou gets back to me. Wiki Writing Guide it'll be moved eventually EDIT: use https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:The_STEP_Wiki If anyone is going to add something then feel free to. If you can think of a section then add a new header and maybe a small description Ill sort through it as I go.
  25. Ok, before making this topic I asked a few people and did a search for "wiki"... That search engine in my mind is still terrible... What you were planning to cover on that page is something that I cannot write about because I know little on the subject. I don't plan on adding it anyhow. I am going more for the person that want to get into this or the person that had forgot quite a bit in their absence... It'll be like the cheatsheet but have the more of what is used on step... Hmmm maybe a better title is "wiki writing on step" Now a question, what would you want me to do? I guess I'll make it in my namespace until I get a response
