Avast Anti-virus may be too zealous
TechAngel85 replied to GrantSP's question in Mod Organizer Support
I don't think there are very many of us using Windows 8. If Microsoft stops developing MSE, I'll just switch back to avast most likely. The only thing I've read is that they're ending MSE for XP. Not for anything else. Of course all XP support is being cut off as it's already past its End-of-Life point for Microsoft. -
Mod Organizer hanging on launch
TechAngel85 replied to Ares90000's question in Mod Organizer Support
Did you start with fresh installs of everything (Skyrim, MO, etc). Your Skyrim data directory should be pristine vanilla and nothing else. A lot of users who switch over from NMM forget to clean up their Skyrim installation and it can lead to a lot of issues if one doesn't do that step. -

2K is the vanilla. I was mistaken and was looking at the wrong file. I extracted them and I'm looking at them right now in an editor (not file size on the explorer). The normals are from the HRLDC and the textures are from the vanilla game (Skyrim -Textures.bsa): Vanilla Male Body: 2048x2048 Normal (MSN): 2048x20248 Vanilla Male Hands: 1024x512 Normal: 1024x512 Vanilla Male Head: 512x512 Normal: 512x512 Better Males Body: 4096x4096 Normal: 2048x2048 Better Males Hands: 1024x512 Normal: 2048x1024 Better Males Head: 2048x2048 Normal: 2048x2048 There are the actual resolutions for the main textures and their normals. There is an increase but what I said earlier still stands. There are other ways to figure this out besides looking at the Nexus page and there is no performance version for this mod which is the reason the performance icon is not listed on the Guide. EDIT: If someone wants to provide the optimized textures for those less fortunate, they can and we'll provide them via the mod page. The author has opened up permissions. This would be be coming from a staff member that really knows DDSopt. -
Avast Anti-virus may be too zealous
TechAngel85 replied to GrantSP's question in Mod Organizer Support
I used Avast for years and it was the #1 recommended anti-virus in many of my recent tech books in college. Since then, I've switched to MSE because it's light-weight and gets the job done for those that use best practices. For client computers, I still install Avast though. I've never had any issues with it when it's set up properly and have never had a computer come back to me with virus/malware issues after I installed it for clients. I'd still recommend it for the average user. But for more advanced users, MSE and the protection built into Firefox is all you need. Speaking of which, Firefox is the second thing I install on client computers and then I delete all shortcuts to IE and tell them that, "Firefox is the internet. Just use it when you want to go online." Don't ever touch Norton nor McAfee! Not even with a ten foot pole covered in hazmat protection! If I ever had a computer come to me with virus or malware issues, 9/10 times it had an active subscription to one of those anti-viruses and it declared the computer as "good/clean". You couldn't pay me to use either one of them! If you've ever wondered why some companies like Staples push these crap programs, it's because they get a kickback for every new customer. Staples is specific to Norton. I found this out by working as a Resident Tech for Staples for several months. I eventually quit because the boss was the biggest a**hole I've ever met and I didn't agree with how they handled their tech side of the business nor how I was forced to pressure customers into buy crap they didn't need just to raise the attachment rate for the store and the sales numbers. Staples doesn't care about the customer, they only care about numbers. Never take your computer to Staples and if you know some that has, slap them for me! All the techs in there are idiots. All they do is hook your computer up to the station and run some crap cleaner program from Symantec. If it's something that needs more personal attention, they outsource the work to remote techs that remote into the computer to fix the issue. Monkeys. Wow...that got way off topic but you got me on a rant. Haha! -

Unfair? There are several ways to find out the size of the texture besides going to the nexus page (which doesn't even say the size of the textures anyway so your concern is a bit misplaced in that regard). We're not going to list the size of all the texture in all the mods on the Guide. Users have to be somewhat self sufficient in some areas. Try using one of the following tools...both of which will do as you need: Windows Texture Viewer by Nvidia: https://www.nvidia.com/object/windows_texture_viewer.html Skyrim DDS Image Viewer by Sir Garnon: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30745/? It should be noted that 4K is the norm for bodies. Even vanilla body textures are 4K and users have to be careful when reducing them as they will get missed up easily if the right settings aren't used in DDSopt. -
I happen to disagree with the highlighted part. The default CSS use of whitespace is terrible imo. If it's a big guide with a lot of information, it can become difficult to read due to how the default elements are formatted. Then there are cases in which it is far easier to create a custom CSS file in order to achieve a specific result in formatting, especially if that formatting will be used over and over again on the page. A good example of this is the custom CSS I have for the ENBSeries INI Guide found here: https://wiki.step-project.com/User:TechAngel85/enbseries.css I have done the following for that Guide's CSS: Increased white space for headers to make the sections separate better for ease of readingCustomized the elements so they don't stretch all the way across the page.Allowing these elements to stretch all the way across the page creates an undesired separation of the content and thus makes it harder to read and follow; they disrupt the flowCustomized the elements so they are more emphasized; slightly larger font size (I use these whenever a parameter is mentioned in plain text)Created a custom solution for displaying the compare shots properly on the page using tagsThese things are often needed in guides and there is no way to predict what will be needed in order to cover every situation with the default CSS. Thus, custom CSS will always be needed at some point or another when it is impractical to use inline style sheets. This applies to any element which will be used multiple times on a page which requires custom formatting; else, a quick inline statement can be used. I do agree; however, that users shouldn't be changing colors of elements or drastically changing how they function outside of their user pages. In my case, though, I simple add a bit of white space and tame the preformatted elements to make it easier to read and create better flow.

Vividian ENB - Skyrim Revisited ILS from enbhost.exe?
TechAngel85 replied to MysticDaedra's question in Post-Processing Support
At this point I would redownload SKSE and reinstall it. -
Nope. It's got to be a conflict with a non-STEP mod or missing textures from Wet & Cold. I'd start by redownloading this mod and reinstalling it.

Vividian ENB - Skyrim Revisited ILS from enbhost.exe?
TechAngel85 replied to MysticDaedra's question in Post-Processing Support
Make sure you're launching SKSE in MO as well and not TES.exe to run the game. That would be another reason for the skse.ini not working. As well, making sure you're running the latest SKSE version. Here's a reference image from my system: -

SKYRIMLE Alduins wall retexture - concept art by hellstorm102
TechAngel85 replied to rootsrat's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Idk, as another user already stated, it's really stands out. Retextures shouldn't grab your intention in that way by saying, "hey look at me!...I'm retextured!". You really shouldn't noticed them and have them just flow into the game as if you could forget they were even there. This one isn't the later and; thus, really screams out at you from the shots on Nexus. The Kohdi version fits a bit more into the surrounding textures. -

My initial instinct tells me bad memory. Have you tried running a memory check program like MemTest86+? To rule out the hardware as the issue? -

Post your memory settings from the enblocal.ini. -
You do have a point there. I didn't really think about that. This would be a legitimate bug that needs to be reported. Tannin usually doesn't fix things unless it's on the tracker so if it's not there already, you'll need to add it. I realize this is possible by using ( /^[a-zA-Z]+$/ ) or something similar in the code; however, Tannin decided to use the standard versioning system for...well...versions. It makes sense. Your complaint makes sense as well, but basically you're just going to have to log it on the bug tracker and let Tannin do with it as he wants. Then disregard. I mistook what you said earlier as that is what you did.

2.04.4 = 2.4.4 ...MO just drops the leading zeros. It's the same number. Basic math. MO can not account for all possible ways that authors might decide to name their versions and "new" is way off from any standard. I'd ask the author to use a more standard versioning system and tell him/her that their system is not jiving well with MO (that probably wouldn't even jive with WB either) rather than blame it on MO. That's not an MO issue. It's an issue of an author using an odd ball version numbering system. The standard is easy to figure out by looking at just a couple mods on Nexus. As for "alpha" and "beta", that is a bit annoying because the mod may not be in alpha or beta versions. But that, again, is a non-standard versioning system. Instead of adding letters, authors should only be using numbers in versions. That is industry standard for just about anything across the software world and that is why MO uses it. If author's deviate from the standard, it's not MO's fault for not being able to correctly translate it. @All, GSDFan is right and being nice. You guys need to reign it in. I would have already handed out some warnings. Lets keep on topic and keep it civil. @BAPACop, Keep in mind that posting multiple threads to increase its chance of being seen is not allowed. @All, Please review: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:STEP_Community_Citizenship EDIT: I leave you with this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_versioning#Sequence-based_identifiers

To get the proper conflict resolution, it is sometimes necessary. -
You don't. You deal with it. haha! MO still reads it as the correct version

One man's observations of the 2.2.9 Guide

You're right. I've had very little sleep and have worked a lot of hours so forgive me. :: I never had that probably but maybe it was because I didn't do the Meta Rules until after all the mods were installed. -

You should be using the "Changing Priority" instructions for those Meta Rules on the mod page. You're not so much as creating a Rule as you are just simply changing the priority in which they are sorted. -

Those are very good. I just wish they weren't quit as sharp as they are. It's definitely a good alternative since it's vanilla friendly. -
You can change the star's intensity in the enbseries.ini file. While in-game, at night and looking up at the stars, hit the ~ key to open the console to pause the game. Then hit Shift+Enter to open the ENB Gui Editor. Look for the [sKY] section and lower the following parameters until you get the desired effect: StarsIntensity=StarsCurve=Once you have the stars looking like you want, click the save button, Shift+Enter to close the ENB Gui, ~ key to close the console, and enjoy.

I'm sure someone will come along and it them again eventually Someone may want to ask Ewis if he's interested in doing them. He seems to do pretty good textures. CaBaL would be another candidate.
