i don' think you should have 2 MO installs. the highest if you don't want to use profiles is that you have 2 mod folders. Name it mod1 mod2 or something and than you can switch between those through the MO settings->general->advanced->modfolder(if this is the english text which i don't use but it shouldn't be that much od a difference to this). those mod folders can be wherever you want.
-
Another MO Profile is what you want. There is no point in having 2 Skyrim folder(at least of a more simplistic way, because skse and enb is still messing with it). Your location of the profiles / mods / download folders of MO are fully customizable as far as i know. I have steam and most of MO on my ssd but i switched my download folder for MO to my HDD. You only need 1 one install of MO and Skyrim. With that you can have a nearly vanilla/untouched Skyrim and with your MO Profiles you can have as many nearly completely separated Modded Skyrims as you want. If your diskspace on ssd#1 is full than you may want to put the location of the mods onto another SSD/HDD

CTD and Performance patch ENBoost (by Boris Vorontsov)
Simondererste replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Tl;Dr: I recommend changing those settings to manually set the VRAM, because it caused really bad problems for me(wrong VRAM settings by auto allocation). Those settings made my Skyrim stutter, because it didn't set the proper VRAM: Find the section marked [MEMORY] and ... Set VideoMemorySizeMb= ('yes, this should be blank')Set AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true(64-bit env only) Set ExpandSystemMemoryX64=trueNOTE: This sets the proper VRAM allocation automatically so i haven't tested the 64 bit setting. I had to set the VRAM manually to get rid of the stuttering. I use an oc gtx 780 with 3gb of VRAM. After testing i can confirm that it sets the wrong VRAM for me and so causes heavy stuttering. Now i have also set ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true but i don't really saw a change with this setting. My working settings: [MEMORY] ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true VideoMemorySizeMb=9216 AutodetectVideoMemorySize=false -

a bb a b a So i agree with Z for all the sets(i preferred the other one on 5. but in 11. i liked the darker one. Both where more about the brightness than the normal maps). Depth >> Flat looking texture, even if the one with more depth has technically more mistakes. -

Looks like one set is more Shadows -> more depth So i mostly prefer those which doesn't look so flat: 1.A 2.A 3.B 4.A 5.A(only choice i went with the other set at least what i believe, because there is not a big depth gain and it just looks darker but you have to see this in game.) 6.B(Like the one above here is not a big difference for me but you have to see it in game if it effects the feeling about its depth) 7.B -
Any complete overview of packs and compatibility?
Simondererste replied to xxx78's question in General Skyrim LE Support
+1! 1. All packs are designed to work with Core. 2. Extended is a pack itself. 3. What about compatibility between packs? (4. Needed modifications to make packs/mods compatible may be maintained with such a list too, but may be too much) If someone want to do this, don't stop them :) -
Any complete overview of packs and compatibility?
Simondererste replied to xxx78's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Great idea but i feel it is a bit too "early" yet :) For me especially because i just finished a first complete playable STEP install, but more general because STEP's aim with the packs isn't yet completely finished. Although working on this already is good, so it can be up as soon as we get STEP 2.3 -
DROPPED High Quality 3D Map (by Ethatron)
Simondererste replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
What exactly would be the higher quality option of this mod? Baseline is already the highest mesh and highest normal version. -
I guess having a shimmering from any magical effect(like eating salt) on your body reveals every neck seam? For testing: Using far behind in the load order should do the job?
-
Small edition to my smooth 60 fps. It's not the whole STEP install yet and my rig is pretty good. I want to optimize how far i can look. If i'm able to have a nice overview over Skyrim i have no problems with 40 FPS. Stable 30 FPS are still playable and some have no problems with this. Some(like me) notice it's a bit "choppy", but the main concern is changing FPS i think. For me setting the [Memory] section manual instead of automatically solved my FPS drops while turning and looking around.
-
Thank you very much TechAngel85! Setting this instead of the automatic suggestion stated in the STEP guide may have solved my stuttering problems. ReservedMemorySizeMb=512 (changed from 64)VideoMemorySizeMb=9216 (changed from =)EnableCompression=trueAutodetectVideoMemorySize=false (changed from true) => smooth 60 FPS Seems like the automatic detection makes something wrong or is too safety? I need to have a closer look into this subject, i guess . My fps-drop-problem
-
(Bump) May have found the issue.Changed the automatic settings to those suggested by TechAngel in the ENB Thread.Voilà smooth 60 FPS like a baby's butt in every area i was running through while testing. Just had 1 short lagspike, but who knows where this came from. Feelings of microstuttering was due to something blocking my way i guess. I even used the 2K textures from Serious HD.[spoiler=enblocal.ini now has those different settings from first post:]ReservedMemorySizeMb=512VideoMemorySizeMb=9216AutodetectVideoMemorySize=false[WINDOW]ForceBorderless=falseForceBorderlessFullscreen=false[ENGINE]...EnableVSync=false No more FPS drops due to turning noticeable anymore. Also used an older full step profile for fast testing and it seemed to work ok.(40)-60FPS VRAM <~2,7GB RAM <2,4GB CPU% and GPU% mostly under/around 60%. GPU peaked to 96% but why not use what you have ^^.I will continue testing other settings. Hopefully this was the cause of my FPS drops and i will be able to mod my Skyrim into the skies .As my PC didn't exploded yet, i suppose it's an error with the automatic setting.Someone may know what is wrong with the automatic settings and may be able to correct it. With a nearly full core install(some from extended added some from core dropped) i got a nice playing experience. Most of my mods should be installed with the higher option than baseline now. While playing and stresstesting: Lowest constant FPS where in Markath with ~29FPS. Most of the time i get between 40-60 FPS. Big Cell loading stutter without collision and 1500 speedmult ^^. For me it runs smoothly so far. while playing and running around with 300 speedmult i just get some stutters here and there. So far it seems like it is working good but not optimized so far. If i found my optimal setting i will edit my first post, but this may take some time as i also want to use an enb. I will mark this as solved with this:
-
Using Serious HD 2k textures -> small stutters while turning fast at Merryfair Farm. Although i didn't used 2k before, i just tried it and tested. Seems like it happens, when it want to use more than 2gb of vram. Could the cause of my stutter have something to do with this? I should have 3gb of vram(SPM shows that too), but stuttering happens when it is around the 2gb line. Max value recorded by SPM was 2005MB. Changes to first post inis(shouldn't be important): enblocal: borderless both =false; EnableVSync=false(done with nvidia); skyrim: iMinGrassSize and uGridsToLoad not in ini => default value; [Camera],[interface] and [VATS] not in ini skyrimprefs: fGrassStartFadeDistance =7000; fMouseHeadingSensitivity =0.0125; not in ini: bDecalsOnSkinnedGeometry = 1 iMaxDecalsPerFrame = 256 Autumnwatch tower is my newest test area. After installing SRO HD Misc and Tobe's highres textures and getting nearly no problems(just one time stutter while turning around. second and following turns ~60FPS) i tried running around a bit more. Then down the Autumnwatch tower i already got big stutters, that didn't vanished after the first turn. Those lags were gone after removing tobes hd misc and SRO and were just those one time fps drops. Again it occurred when vram hit 2gb.
-
Shouldn't be running too much in the background and definitely no Overheating. Nevertheless i will keep an eye on this and also try deactivating borderless + just using one monitor. Isn't the ReservedMemory thing autodetect as described in the guide? I will try setting it manual. Short test: Borderless both = false and ReservedMemorySizeMb=512 (Stream running with 720p on second monitor, but shouldn't make any difference) Here are 3 pics taken: 1. and 2. image i had >55 FPS CPU was about 45% and GPU at 80% 3. image i had only 2FPS with CPU at around26% and GPU between 50 and 70%. Just looking in one special direction gives me this huge drop in FPS and not just a lagspike. I stays at 2FPS and as soon as i move out of this "bad region" i get immediately above 55 FPS. After setting ReservedMemorySizeMb to 64 again and testing i get a constant FPS drop from 60 to ~50 in this region(5-10FPS is somewhat acceptable). So this region seems to be intense for the GPU, also i don't really understand what's the difference there. Setting ReservedMemorySizeMb to 512 increases this drop immensely. turning around fast stutters(short FPS drop to ~25) Setting ForceBorderlessFullscreen to true gave me 2-3 FPS. Seems wrong after some more testing, also for ForceBorderless. Both don't enable a borderless window mode for me. Vanilla runs there with ~55 FPS but without (big)framedrops while turning. Note for myself: Began again from the start. Installed including SMIM. Testing more places and try to go to specific places where the mods add things. Outside of DragonReach i could decrease my FPS too 45, but that was the lowest so far and looking around fast increases FPS(>45). No stuttering at all. So, not many texture mods installed -> no issue found for now.
-
First i installed a "STEP:Core+", with some mods with higher res than base and some mods from extended. As i tested and got heavy fps drops(1 FPS while looking in specific directions), i decided to invest the time to figure out what causes those lags and to optimize my modded Skyrim. Supersampling rest like 1.E.1.2 Tools: SPM v3.66 and FRAPS 3.5.99. Test after 2.F of STEP 2.2.9: (No Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized by Vano89 due to: Greater than 1.5GB: Do not download this mod, just use the full HRDLC.) Mostly 60fps, but already some fps drops to 20-30. Happens while turning around fast(most stress for GPU?). VRAM usage ~ 2GB. CPU% and GPU% ~70%(-80%). Test after Enhanced Night Skyrim installed: Nearly no difference from before. Maybe less overall FPS "bigger FPS-Hits", but expected due to heavy texture mods. No real increase in stuttering, but dropping FPS while turning fast is still there and annoying. VRAM usage ~ 2GB. CPU% and GPU% <80%~90%. Test after improved Vanilla Mountains: After it got worse after the last step, i think it got a bit better with those 5 mods added. VRAM usage ~ 2GB. CPU% and GPU% <80%~90%. Lag/Stutter/FPS observation: FPS and stuttering are depended on location, also it doesn't looks logical to me. I can turn around fast in Fort Greenwall(stays at[40-]50~60FPS), but FPS drops down to 5FPS in Merryfair Farm, although i can see less there. While it occurs the CPU% and GPU% is decreasing(getting less material to work with i guess). It's still playable but with annoying lags while turning fast(happens less frequently while really playing) and stutters while moving around. Misc: Higher uGridsToLoad settings increases stuttering, but 7 seems to work ok(I'm a real fan of having a nice long view into the distance[trying to optimize especially because of this]). Better shadow qualities could eat up about 600MB VRAM, with setting MapResolution to ~8k and ShadowMask to 32 in skyrimprefs.ini. VSync settings aren't working as expected, but i will have a look into this again later. Using Nvidia for VSync for the moment. Seems like with VSync off stuttering is getting damped, but also causes physic glitches. Most of the mods(especially the bigger once) should be baseline. Some smaller could be higher(2k instead of 1k). Is it normal, that i experience those stutters(maybe because of the engine), or is my system to weak to even handle a little bit more than baseline? Can high res textures cause FPS drops, even if i still have ~0.9-1GB of free VRAM(, with my GPU)? Can those stutters cause constant FPS drops to 1FPS if i mod more(like my first try, where not only turning caused stuttering and drops but also just looking in special directions)? I will continue to test and try to find out what can help me to get a nice panoramic view in Skyrim, with an acceptable framerate.

I think the question mark is always there. It's some debug infos not directly related to the fps counter. If you use ENBoost, SPM(version 3.66) can't show the fps. Use either Fraps or the FPS counter mod. Also using shift enter with any ENB(also ENBoost) shows some menus and on top it shows the fps. -
I looked in this thread, because i'm trying to get a stable a nice modded Skyrim, that fits my system specs. So i question myself if it is needed to install and run the game always through the Helgen intro sequence, just to test the mods. After having an installation that i'm satisfied with i would begin a fresh new game all from the start on. So having mods installed before Helgen is given, for my playthrough. For testing purposes i will use a save after the intro sequence, because i can start running freely around. I would guess that this best practice for modding allude to mod testing? Don't know if putting a hint like: "You can use a save after Helgen intro sequence for testing" is appreciated and would help.

If someone may read through his lines quickly he might misunderstand this and try to use merge as often as possible. In my opinion it's better to use replace in most cases. The link DoubleYou provided is "more neutral" and describes it very good, so the user will chose the correct approach for him. Also here is a nice video from Gopher: Youtube -

Everything is on my SSD(i think it's a samsung 840pro). GPU is under 80% all the time even as the lags occur. My system should be >=STEP's Recommended system specs. Everything i can notice on SPM is that GPU% and CPU% is dropping while stutters happen, and everything else looks ok. -
Skyrim Performance Monitor (by mnelson999)
Simondererste replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Other Utilities
I will test my settings and mods over the next 2 weeks. So far i'm running around with a test char and add mods to see if it is something mod specific. Most of the different ini settings(enblocal skyrim skyrimprefs) where set to STEP recommendations. Fraps/ENBoost show me ~60fps most of the time with a setup of STEP mods till enhanced night skyrim. I experience some fps drops but they aren't heavy(goes down to ~35fps) but are short and the framerate raises too the normal value after a short time in this area. VRAM is ~2gb and the enb menu also shows me that i have constantly over 900mb free VRAM. So this may be already a hint to my drops as increasing mod number and some settings like ugridsToLoad can increase those stutters. Before that i have tested a bit more with my full setup and those heavy fps drops don't necessarily come from turning around, as they stay if i look in specific regions(also i haven't noticed similarities to those regions). So i can look in a direction and suddenly my fps drops till it goes to 1. If a turn away from those spots i get fps of 45+(full modded). I may open another thread for my testing, but for now i will do some practical work with my InspectorStutter ;) -

Simondererste replied to mooncrow's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Is this really the correct way TechAngel? I always do replace for safety. So this needs some more explanation. It comes down to how you update a mod. Either get the new version(a) or an update/patch(b) for that mod. a)As for me i mostly will download the new full version of the mod. You may download a bigger file, but most of the time you have no other choice, because there are only some who provide an update/patch for their mod. Using the merge option here would just have the potential of leaving dead/dirty/old files inside your mod, which may cause problems or just waste space. If you are afraid of errors in the new version, either there is an old version available on the nexus or you do a backup(or just rename it). b)Rarely, there is only an update/patch available or you don't want to download a large mod again just for small changes. In this scenario you can use the merge option or install the update as a new mod. Using it as a mod XYZversion1.0-1.2 after mod XYZversion1.0 in MO. Although this may use more space, but at the same time you will keep track of what has updated(maybe you want to keep a change you did to version 1.0). So as i haven't manipulated a mod i will replace it most of the time with the new mod instead of merging it with an update.
