Hardware (new Mobo/CPU) - need suggestions/help
Octopuss replied to rootsrat's topic in Step Banter Inn
It honestly doesn't matter, the basic, most imporant features are there anyway :) -

I'm not very familiar with ASUS products, but for gaming purposes, I think the board perfectly fine. All of the basic features are there, and being pretty modern line of products, there shouldn't be any upgrade limitations, so... yep, I'd say go for it, if you really think you want to go the Intel way. The CPU is perfectly fine as well. The most expensive variant hardly brings any significant performance gains, unless you plan to overclock, which I assume you don't. -

Wait, what? Drivers incompatible with W7? That doesn't make any sense :O_o: Unless it was and old version or... Well that doesn't matter now I guess. But really, Intel feels like much more robust platform, and especially if one reads various IT forums. That's not to say AMD is bad, but just... It looks like there are many more small annoyances or possible incompatibilities than with Intel. -

I would suggest getting rid of the AMD stuff and rebuild the PC on Intel platform. It has significantly better bang:buck ratio, and I haven't read about any illogical incompatibilies unless really obscure hardware combinations were used. It's not even much more expensive (if at all!) than AMD stuff. You can get decent H(Z)87-based board and Core i5 CPU for reasonable money. Of course, the question is whether the problem isn't caused by Win 8.1. Honestly, I wouldn't use it, but that's pointless suggestion as you probably already bought it :P But internet is full of people crying about all kinds of problems it causes... Did you have the same problems under W7? -
Combat overhaul mod recommendations?
Octopuss replied to Solmyr's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I decided to throw Revenge of Enemies out, because it's horribly unbalanced, and the author is apparently gone. Is there anything that doesn't reinvent the wheel and replace it with a house on legs? Basically I am looking for something that "just" improves the vanilla system. I don't need any locational damage, dodging, or anything like that. Just somewhat less retarded enemies. I don't mind (heavily) scripted mods, though. Btw, RotE has nothing to do with AI, it simply overboosts things with completely ridiculous abilities and multiplies their damage by I don't even want to know how much. If it was well balanced, it would have worked really nicely along with ASIS, and I probably wouldn't even think about looking for alternatives. -
1k as always, in my book anything higher is an overkill. Just send over whatever you need tested, I'll crunch through it :)

SKYRIMLE Better Dwemer Spider Textures (by Naitrii)
Octopuss replied to egocarib's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Judging by those screenshots, I'd say it fits into the game perfectly. -
The 3rd image, I see a mix of hay, rocks, and frozen wood, but no ash whatsoever.

I might have it wrong, but aren't these spiders craftable? Then it would make sense for them to be shinier, tidy, less rusty etc. The rest of the stuff is apparently several thousands years old, so... edit: I got it all confused with a mod that makes the spider a craftable follower. -

ACCEPTED Better Shaped Weapons - BSW (by masterofshadows and LeanWolf)

When I changed the fomod "prefer" option to false, the installer looked different, and correct meshes were copied. I really don't understand all this at all. -

I think the version from Ruins Clutter Improved is much better.

What's NCC installer? I don't see anything like that in MO. -

Meanwhile I confirmed the bug. All of the no sheaths meshes are installed wrong (you get fully sheathed greatswords). Pretty easy to test. -
The texture is really nice, but something tells me SMIM is superior because of custom meshes.

I am almost certain the installer is somewhat bugged. I selected the no sheaths option, and it's still installing the wrong meshes (I only tested it with glass greatsword, but it's possible it's not limited to just that). Could anyone confirm? Leanwolf said the installer was made for NMM, but I have no idea what that means for MO users. I don't really understand the various installers at all. -
I still like the combined plugin for the rest of the stuff. Just remove the SMIM stuff from it...

I am looking at the screenshots, and the vanilla texture seems to fit in much better. It's not even blurry or anything. Am I weird? -
That's actually quite useful. I "messed" up my previous char by investing points into perks I didn't need at all, and without any intent to play this legendary stuff, I was basically stuck with them.

SMIM was just updated with merged esp this time... hah. And changes to the plugins as well.
