  1. Sounds & Gameplay: Better Bards Users should make sure not to install the optional files esps that are included with the download. This is a (silly) mistake I made on my first install some months ago and it causes all NPC dialogue to have less pause between their lines as the esps affect a global variable. Smooth Blades Draw and Sheath In the 3rd screen of the FOMOD installer, there are 6 options which are disabled by default. Should some of these not be enabled by the STEP user? They concern the draw and weapon sheath replacement sound files for daggers, blades and enchanted weapons as well as some mute options.
  2. The STEP recommendation says that it is "Packaged with a BAIN wizard that includes a STEP default to simplify installation." However, neither in the BAIN wizard nor in the optional FOMOD installer can I find this STEP default? I'm using MO 1.05, but this problem also occured to me some time ago on another install when I was using MO 0.99.6 In the BAIN wizarrd, the package.txt is greyed out. Does that indicate an issue?
  3. Alright I went through Character & Creatures and Clothign & Equipment  using only STEP:Core mods. Here's what I noticed, do with it what you want :P Bellyaches Animals & Creatures: 1. There is both a High-res and Medium-Res pack available. I suspect medium-res to be baseline. 2. There are different main files for Wrye Bash (with both hi-res and medium-res options). Again, rather obvious for most users, but for some it is handy that you mention to run that one instead (in case not using MO) 3. In miscellaneous files there is a “default animal replacement†package which is considerably smaller than the main files (which include more options) so it may be good to recommend users to install that file instead. Cover Kahjits The male and the female version of the 1024 optional file are packaged badly. Because there is no NMM/WB/FOMOD installer, users will need to run the 1024 optional file twice in order to install both male and female khajits. Or they can create some new folders and rename during the install. Book of Silence 1. There are two hotfixes for 1.9 in the Optional Files section which almost all users likely will need to download as well. 2. A more detailed list of what to install would be really handy for Mod Organizer users, especially since it seems (imo) that more and more people favor using MO over WB lately. There’s a BCF for WB (I don’t know if the BCF is up-to-date for version 1.9 though) but MO users are left in the dark since none of the installers for Book of Silence has “default†options for any type of armor or weapons. For example, users can choose in Glass Armors the following: Golden, Steel Grey, Thalmorized, Variants. To me - and I’m sure it’s the same for a great part of the user base – it is not obvious which type is most consistent with Vanilla Skyrim and with the STEP philosophy. Moreover, Glass Variants adds an extra .esp whereas the other choices do not. Many users who install STEP haven’t fully played through the game so there is no way of knowing for them which choice represents the most consistent one. There are literally dozen such choices to make in all the Book of Silence packages. For consistency’s sake and for simplifying STEP in general it would therefore be nice to have the STEP WIKI page on Book of Silence list which choices should be made. You could always recommend ‘Cabal’s Cut’, which is the easiest option :P 4. Since 1.9, as you are all aware, there is now a Creature Package. What would be the STEP recommendation for this? 5. The STEP Wiki page mentions incompatibility between GDO and BoS Skyforge Weapons esp. First, BOSS now load GDO before the BoS Skyforgew Weapons esp so that conflict is gone. Second, there are however other issues caused by W&A Fixes Remade esp and by the W&A Fixes GDO Patch esp. Amidianborn Skyforge Weapons does not forward some of the changes made by W&A. Conflicting nodes are: 0009F25C/D/E/F, 0009F260. They aren’t really gamebreaking conflicts though. Diverse Priests: Because Bring out Your Dead is not used in STEP:Core, unaware users will run into a CTD if they install and enable all ESPs as recommened by STEP. A better recommendation would be to install all ESPs but to deactivate the BOYD patch until BOYD is installed. Close Quivers and Longer Arrows 1. “normal quivers†is called “vanilla quivers†in the installer (obvious but still :p) 2. Under “conversion of other mods†in the installer, by default many options are checked for mods which are not in STEP. I’m not sure whether it is a problem to install all those compatibility meshes. My best guess is that it is not an issue since all of them (with exception of Book of Silence) are not replacers but instead seem to be mods which add armor/weapons to the game and therefore the compatibility meshes are not used until one of these mods are activated. Is this correct? 3. On the second screen of the installer, under the heading “bolt of torch arrow†, by default the compatibility for “Torch Arrows 1.3†is selected but this mod is not installed by STEP. 4. On the second screen of the installer, under the heading “crossbows basic collection by DJojo†, by default the compatibility for “DJjojo's Crossbows Basic Collection†is selected but this mod is not installed by STEP. Elven Weapons for Silence 1. A BCF is available for WB but for MO users it is not clear which install options are preferred by STEP. Greatsword Sheaths and Scabbards There is an option in the installer for Skyforge Weapons by Book of Silence, I suppose this should be enabled (it is diabled by default in the installer) Improved closefaced helmets 1. Users could be reminded to now put the W&A Fixes Patch for ICH after ICH in the install order. In either WB or MO. Otherwise the .esps from ICH will not be overwritten by the W&A Fixes Patch. 2. The W&A Fixes Patch for ICH comes with 4 .esps but STEP ICH only uses 3 .esps. The esp called: imp_guard_helm.esp must be disabled or removed (unless ‘improved guard helmets – tighter eye holes’ option is also installed by the user). Shield of Ysrgramor In the installer is both a 1k and a 2k version. Ultimate HD Torch Wording could be made slightly more clear by saying “STEP recommends to also install optional less glowing cloth versionâ€
  4. I didn't know it had moved to there and I already had gone back to installing the old enahnced terrain and map snow before I saw this. Thank you for that link. Yeah, I agree with Z that the new Enhanced Terrain v2 looks really good. The lush version is a bit more extravagant than the blended, but the former still looks very natural - especially when combined with SFO 1.87 (1.85 looks better with the blended version imo).
  5. Thank you all for your replies. I've installed a 2nd MO. I didn't use the installer but extracted the archive. I deleted the NCC folder in the new MO install just to be sure it doesn't attach to the registry or anything upon first launch. It works really well for me: 1. Clcking 'Download with Manager' while MO-1 is open, and MO-2 is closed, will download the file within the directory specified of MO1 2. Clicking 'Download with Manager' while MO-2 is open, and MO-1 is closed, will download the file within the directory specified of MO2 3. Clicking 'Download with Manager' while no MO is open, will download the file within the directory specified of MO1 4. You can't have two seperate instances of MO running at the same time (unless you change the .exe filename I guess) I haven't yet tried how running seperate instances of MO will work with BUM. Ideally, BUM has a different list for each MO instance. But since the program's installer attaches itself to your first installed BOSS dir (at least it does this on my pc) I'm not sure if that is possible. Good thing is that STEP doesn't require any BUM stuff so I haven;t had the need for it on my 2nd MO.
  6. Thank you tech, for taking this up. Tomorrow I'll continue with the other sections and will post some more things that I noticed here. There's no intention from my side that you or anyone should change it in STEP. But between the first time I installed STEP:Core (3 months ago) and now (being more experienced with modding) some of these things really stick out and it is sometimes the small things that may pose the big hurdles for the beginner/average modder. Anyways, you'll be hearing more from me tomorrow (if there is anything to report that is!).Â
  7. Just did a reinstall of STEP:Core on my 2nd Mod Organizer. I noticed a few things during installation so far. I know STEP also leaves some choice to the user, but I think the following things can be considered for change by you in order to make the guide a bit easier to understand for some users. After all, these are STEP:Core mods. I noticed the following (up to and including 2.G. Landscape & Environment, will do rest tomorrow): Enhanced Night Skyrim: Description doesn't mention whether a galaxy is supposed to be installed or not. Also not sure why you choose lower-stars. I doubt the performance difference with medium or high is noticeable and with lower stars one can much easier see the ugly round lines that make up the skyrim sky. Moss Rocks: 1. In the installer are two options: Install Moss Rocks normal OR Moss Rocks SMIM version. Notes do not mention which one. 2. There is a Dragonborn version of Moss Rocks, of which there is no mention in STEP Realistic Mushrooms: There is also a low-res version (1k) available. Would be nice for users if you mention which one to pick. I guess the 1k version for baseline. Terrain Bump: There is both a performane and a regular version. Z, Since since you yourself made the mod and wrote in the description that the performance version has no noticeable quality loss compared to regular, it would be good for STEP to have the recommendation as well, I guess? Visible windows: Has no style recommendations. Do you recommend 'smooth' or 'gritty'? Deafult/Yellow/Red/Blue/Green tint? W.A.T.E.R. 1. Reduces Splash is now called "improved splash" in the installer 2. Extra Wet Rocks is called 'kerplunk - watery rocks' in the installer 3. Ice is now called 'frozen puddles' in the installer 4. There is a 'dawnguard' option in the installer. Althought not mentioned in STEP notes it is quite logical that people with the xpac install it 4a. There are actually 3 Dragonborn options, but STEPS only mention to install the 'DB Addon 5. There is a rowboat option: just wondering why this is not mentioned 6. Both high and medium resolution have six different stylistic options available, but STEP does not mention any preference/recommendation. Maybe these are new since the last update I'm not sure since I've been using RWT2 on my regular install. Hope this is helpful in some way.
  8. New version is up. (caps are from the author...) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: Also, STEP has both this mod ánd 'Enhanced Distant Terrain' https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1598/? marked as STEP:CORE. However, both mods provide the same texture and therefore the other mod becomes redundant.Â
  9. Sorry but I don't really understand what you are trying to do, say, or ask...
  10. I noticed that there is now also a LITE version, which does not require SKSE or SkyUI. Perhaps this is an alternative to the current STEP recommendation of installing the full T&B but not activating it. I suppose the LITE version does the same thing?
  11. Is there anyone who uses two seperate installs of Mod Organizer? Wondering how it'll work NCC and Nexus install links? Reason is that it is getting too messy with STEP:Core, full STEP, SR and a custom profile... totalling 800 mods. Rather split it between two MO's.
  12. Most of the tips in that link are really old and have been proven not to work well or to decrease stability. With regards to INI tweaks, one important baserule to hold is: less is more. Stick to the STEP tweaks like Salvador said.
  13. Well I for one cannot play with a crash frequency like that. First, it's anooying and second you are continuously anticipating/anxious about anything you do in game that can cause the next crash. But to each his own. If you do crash that often, I'd suggest you use Autosave Manager, it helps a lot.
  14. When I saw the title of last episode, I was hoping that Dexter would fly off in a plane to Argentina while all his colleagues at Miami Metro just discovered that he was the real 'monster' all along... :(

  16. No offense intended, but this sounds like "I installed hundreds of mods from Nexus that I liked and now my game crashes. Plz help fix" More than half of your mods are not used in STEP or in SR. That doesn't mean you will not get advice but I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask about such a load order. For what it's worth, my quick view of your mod list concludes that: 1) You use a lot of mods that add gameplay content plus textures to the game via cell/worldspace edits. The tons of city mods that you use are just one example. 2) Way, WAY too many scripted mods. For example, you have Interesting NPCs installed, a mod which alone is worth 2GB of data with tons of scripts/NPCS etc. You can't expect to be able to combine that with 5 other heavy scripted mods (Wet and Cold, Inconsequential NPCS, Realisitc Needs and Diseases...etc.) 3) Too many unknown/mods that haven;'t been tested extensively (at least not here). It seems like you haven't really given a lot of thought to installing mods, or you're new to modding. If you want to have an extensive modded skyrim, I'd start anew and go for STEP:Core. https://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.7
  17. Yeah It has been likte that since MO 1.x
  18. Posted in this old thread because I thought it inappropriate to open a new one. Stumbled upon a facial mod comparison on the internet, thought to link it here. Facial comparison of: Coverwomen ECE Envision LoreFriendlyFemales Mature Skin Navetsea Nuska Pretty Face Univision Go to: https://gdriv.es/tesg Scroll down to "Character Appearance"
  19. me too. I'll want to keep everything seperate unless I'd hit the esp cap.
  20. Latest update introduces a MCM menu with spawn control settings, me like (getting kinda obsessed with spawns lately lol). Version 1.503 EVERY bandit complete change in LVL list (All bandits hit from lvl 1 - 60) Added in MCM Menu Added in Fire Warlock Bandits (72 new NPCs) Edit: uhh I didn't update this for a few weeks, maybe it has been in longer :p
  21. Papyrus Log Viewer Papyrus logs can become very large and be cluttered with countless duplicates of each warning or error. This simple log viewer will only show each entry once, making it easier to get an overview and less likely to miss less common entries among all the duplicates. Instructions: Uncompress the archive and double click the .jar file. Requirements: Java 7
  22. When I was DDSopting for the first time, I personally found the instructions in the SR guide easier to follow... Also, I made another post today about 2 other performance enhancement mods that you could use on top of Hi-Res DLC Optimized while foregoing DDSopt completely. Mind you, this is my personal recommendation because it works out well for me. Highly likely that not everyone here at STEP or the people from the STEP team will agree with these 2 mods, but I found that in practice they work out really well. I'd still DDSopt other mods though if you are having vram issues. https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/42360/? https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/43921/?
  23. You could test it easier by doing the following in the console on main menu, type: coc riverwood in-game, type: tgm player.placeatme 000FEA9B
  24. Ever since I removed the iLargeIntRefCount completely from the INI, as talked about earlier in this thread, I haven't experienced a single CTD/ILS anymore in dungeons. Used to get like 1 per every 2-3 hours but I've been playing over 30 more hours now and it hasn't happened again. No other relevant changes were done to my setup so I just wanted to confirm that it helped. So thanks again! :)
  25. Hmmm did a small test without unpacking BSA, you're right... lol :(All this time I thought it would only show the .bsa file in conflict window because in the filetree it does only show the .bsa. Either way, I doubt loose files have a severe or even noticeable performance impact on any mid-range pc... So I'd definitely extract them, but that's just imo
