This is the best outcome, for now.

Excellent.

Will be interesting to see what happens now. Whether some of the people who jumped to Steam Workshop, like the SkyUi crowd most obviously, come back. I suspect the 5.0 SkyUi wont see Nexus...

Time will tell, but I hope they do appear with a donate button. Perhaps once Nexus adds new donation features.

So now were back to the way it was before. Everyone is allowed to get paid for their part in the modding community except the content providers.

Nexus is still relaxing the rules on donations, so still a plus. Hopefully this was a wake up call for people to be more appreciative and donate, but doubtful.

I'm fairly sure there will be another shot at it. This time a bit more consultative. And probably with a bit more warning than what was essentially a crowbar across the face sort of deal as this try was.

I hope so anyway.

I'm sure there will be, but not likely for Skyrim in particular. Maybe FO4 or TES6.

This is a great victory for the modding community. And content developers didn't totally lose out. The paywall barrier to collaboration is gone, but donations are now more prominent than ever. Will that prominence last? Only time will tell. But they listened to people and I'm glad.

Judging just from my donation inbox, likely not. First day had a very small flurry of donators, second day almost none, since then absolute zero and I don't expect that to change. I can't speak for anyone else ofc but it was interesting to watch.

I still don't think the 'community' covered itself in glory, either.

Sure there's the 'victory' of modding remaining free, but I consider that victory as best pyhrric. I suspect we'll lose/have lost people like Isoku and Chesko, frozunwaidon etc.

That's heartwarming. I hope it will allow the wounds caused by the harsh words of the last few days to heal faster. Now may be a good time to promote donations in a way that is convenient for both authors and supporters.

I sincerely hope not, things will heal over time. Some will be lost, but hopefully not all.

Honestly I am at a loss for words. I've tried to type this message for 10 minutes. Talk about taking a wrecking ball to the community. Tantrums, fights, name calling, walk outs, leaving top modders to be crucified and twist in the wind, splitting the community, etc. The only good thing is raising awareness to financially support modders and modding as a profession. But I doubt that was ever Valves real motivation anyway.

All mod managers should have a donate to mod author button build in.

I endorse in the managers, so I should be able to donate in them as well.

I honestly had no idea donations were so sparse for modders. Before this whole fiasco, I figured the bigger ones would have been getting fairly regular spurts of support, so to speak, especially during updates.

I'm not a particularly stable person as far as finances go, but I will definitely try to click that button more

With the setup as it is on Nexus at the moment, it's VERY easy to miss donation buttons. You need to make a conscious effort to hunt them down.

If what Dark0ne is saying's going to happen does happen that will be a good thing and will hopefully up the donation rates.

Except a few mod authors took a paid mod to the knee* and may not return? I think the Boston Tea Party was more civilized that some of these shenanigans.

* Nozzer, I know you a beer for coming up with that phrase.

I know there a teabagging joke in there somewhere...

"I used to be a modder like you, then I took Gabens teabag to the knee."

Yep.

Wow, I'm shocked they actually did that.  Honestly, I would like to see them try again.  They really do need to engage the community in a more ongoing way, talk to more modders, look at what is really involved in modding Skyrim, and figure out a way to make this truly work.

The increased show of donations was pretty nice, but I also suspect that it's now over and donation rates will once again flatline.

I also hope this prompts Nexus to continue thinking about adding a shared ad revenue system for mod authors.  I hope I'm proven wrong, but I just don't think the donation system is ever going to prove particularly sufficient as a means of financial support for mod makers.
