Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD

Finally I can see my house from here

You know the price for my mods: blood, sweat and tears. Oh, and your first born.

If you want to help other authors of quality mods then donate to them directly.

For latest information and instructions see the DynDOLOD 2.18 UPDATE POST

What is this?

DynDOLOD is a set of tools based on TES5Edit and TES5LODGen to automatically create a Skyrim mod based on the load order which adds distant LOD for objects to Skyrim. By combining DynDOLOD with TES5LODGen users can create drastically enhanced traditional static LOD plus tree LOD and the new, optional dynamic distant object LOD in a few 'simple' steps.

DynDOLOD is meant for enthusiast modders who are familiar with using TES5Edit. Enthusiast modders have a general knowledge of computers, folders and files, especially Skyrims 'Data' folders and how to install mods safely with a manager or manually.

To fully expand the visual experience and use the additional features offered by TES5LODGen the DynDOLOD package comes with over 1000 new or updated LOD models for objects that were badly missing from the original game like the Skyhaven Temple or landscape features like roads, smaller rocks and dirt cliffs that simply make the distant landscape look much more natural and alive.

What does it do?

It makes Skyrim look like this

Hello again,

I as well have run into a problem (well two problems) again:

1) I had one occurence, where all lods (trees, roads, buildings...) didn't change from lod to the full meshes. That happend on the way from Riverwood to Whiterun. Don't know if this might be ralated, but before I had this problem I had a camera bug in riverwood, when I tried to use the tanning rag in Riverwood, and instead of using the tanning rag I was stuck in first person camera and could walk around, but with odd moving control. When I clicked on the tanning rag again I could walk normally again and change from first to third person camera again as normal (using Enhanced Camera mod and had this bug for the first time and I don't know if this might had anything to do with the stuck-lod problem I had afterwards).

2) I'm (again) using Skyrim Flora Overhaul 1.87 and there are several trees, that have a lod with a very orange looking trunk - the color is not matching the SFO 1.87 trees and thus the changing from lod to mesh becomes very noticable like a pop up. When generating tree-lods as you explained to me in this old post I noticed, that the tree lods are generated from Skyrim.esm and Dragonborn.esm. I couldn't find any reference to Skyrim Flora Overhaul.esp - might this be the cause for those orange trunks, whose color doesn't match the actual tree models of SFO?

3) One river foam lod glows white at night - from close up the "real foam" doesn't glow and looks normal - it's just the lod.

I feel sorry to terrorize you again Sheson with questions, because you seem to work so tirelessly and you always give feedback - I hope there comes a time, when your help isn't neded so much anymore.

But the thing is I don't want to go back to my old LOD mods, cause after seeing Whiterun with high DynDOLOD lods I can't go back ... :innocent:

Every time I answer a question a firstborn is sacrificed, so you are terrorizing the firstborns, not me.

1) tree, roads and buildings typically uses the default in-game tree + static object LOD system. So if that goes funky it would do so anyways regardless of number of objects (simply more triangles) that were baked into the files, I presume. I would assume reloading would fix any issues.

2) See the FAQ answers to the questions "Tree LOD: LOD trees do not match close-up full model trees" and "Tree LOD: LOD trees textures cut off mid-way"

There really can't be any other reasons than either the billboards being wrong at tree LOD creation time (download correct billboards, make sure they are overwriting each other correctly), or the LOD texture does not belong to the LOD meshes.

3) ENB? Do you have the particle patches from Mindflux? Or here Particle Patch All-in-One

Extra bright objects could also mean 2 are superimposed on top of each other, which classifies as save game update gone wrong.

open console, click it, disable, if it is still there, click it again, new form id? It is a second

If problem persists post the form id of it or the base element, please

Hello,

More related to STEP's instructions rather than DynDOLOD itself :

From the DynDOLOD step mod page :

It's said to add the following to your skyrim.ini :

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa.

I'm not sure if this have any impact on what will happen, but I believe the dot at the end of the line shouldn't be there. (There is no dot at the end of the equivalent line in SkyrimEditor.ini)

Cheers,

That makes sense! I was wondering what you need them for!

Yes, reloading the save before that bug fixed it! But, as I'm so eager to finally start playing the game again (after 3 months of modding), I want to make sure that it's as stable as possible - therefore I asked ... hope it doesn't happen again!

There really can't be any other reasons than either the billboards being wrong at tree LOD creation time, or the LOD texture does not belong to the LOD meshes.

Tree texture atlas TamrielTreeLod.dds and meshes are used from my DynDOLOD - Output mod; it doesn't get overwritten by anything apart from the "DynDOLOD - SFOv1.87 Tree Lods darker (-5)" mod that I generated aterwards to get a darker LOD (and problem happens as well without the darker lod DynDOLOD mod).

The load order of my Billboards and DynDOLOD related stuff is:

TES5LODGen - Vanilla Skyrim LOD Billboards

Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD

Skyrim Flora Overhaul - Basic v1.87

Skyrim Flora Overhaul - Dragonbrn v02

Skyrim Flora Overhaul - RecPines and LODs Basic v181b

TES5LODGen - SFO 1.87 Basic LOD Billboards

Realistic Aspen Trees - 2k Vanilla LOD     <- There's no SFO 1.87 LOD for Realistic Aspens available - therefore the vanilla lod version

Realistic Aspen Trees 3.4 - Billboards for TES5LodGen

DynDOLOD - Output

DynDOLOD - SFOv1.87 Tree Lods darker (-5)

The TamrielTreeLod.dds from "Skyrim Flora Overhaul - RecPines and LODs Basic v181b" and "Realistic Aspen Trees - 2k Vanilla LOD" get overwritten by the TamrielTreeLod.dds file from "DynDOLOD - SFOv1.87 Tree Lods darker (-5)"!

I'll doublecheck Form-IDs like described in Q: Tree LOD: LOD trees do not match close-up full model trees and let you know what it yields.

Yes, I use Particle Patch All-in-One. It gets overwritten by SMIM, Realistic Water Two, Finer Dust, Better Shaped Weapons, ELFX, Project Parallax Remastered and Vivid Landscapes.

Without using DynDOLOD I don't have that one lod of glowing foam though.

And can't be a save game update, cause everytime I try something new with DynDOLOD I start a new game now - takes lots of time, but makes sure, that it's not save game update related :) But I'll try your suggested method and will try to disable it via console and see if there is another form id.

It'll be sometime tomorrow till I can give you feedback on the Form-IDs of the trees. Thank you very much for your answers :-)

Yep, I was wondering about that dot as well! Don't have the dot at the end of the line in my ini neither.

On a quick glance you are missing billboards for Skyrim Flora Overhaul - RecPines and LODs Basic v181b?

You will have to create by splitting 181bs LOD texture. I don't think they are available for download.

TES5LODGen - Vanilla Skyrim LOD Billboards

Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD

Skyrim Flora Overhaul - Basic v1.87

Skyrim Flora Overhaul - Dragonbrn v02

TES5LODGen - SFO 1.87 Basic LOD Billboards

Skyrim Flora Overhaul - RecPines and LODs Basic v181b

[insert billboards for 181b here]

Realistic Aspen Trees - 2k Vanilla LOD

Realistic Aspen Trees 3.4 - Billboards for TES5LodGen

I just assume the other billboards match the mods.

DynDOLOD 1.30

Fixed double Solitude windmill reported by adelinadragonborn

I have just updated DynDOLOD as I only just noticed the above in my game - have this now (picture attached). Also using the Whiterun.esp. I use mainly texture mods, Purity, Chesko's camping mod and the unofficial patches.

Still, better than the double sails. Apologies if the fault is mine. Will update again when I get the chance. Everything else is great. Big thanks for this mod, it really is essential in my opinion. Will post any further info if required.

You know, I was sure I followed instructions - but I watched the vid and ran the process again and got the attached...

I did not do enough un-installing (I think). I strongly reccommend the video; it's easy to miss stuff, not because its complex, but there's a fair bit on the to-do list.

Do I get my rocket science degree now? Or maybe some negative kudos

Thanks again for the work on this. I use the low preset, there is no performance loss on my system and the distant objects actually do add significantly to the experience.

I've run into an issue since updating DynDOLOD and adding a few other mods:

When generating 'DynDOLOD - Worlds' I get options for two Tamriels.  One is "Tamriel (Skyrim)" as always and the other is "Tamriel (LOOKUP FAILED!)".

When I first installed I hit Select All.  This led to the "could not find json" error so I exited the game and tried to re-install Dyn.

The second time I installed I hit Select All and unchecked "Tamriel (LOOKUP FAILED!)".  No error this time.  However I noticed significantly more stuttering and pop-in than usual when DynDOLOD is active.  Grass pop-in was particularly bad.  It was the same upon reload.  The MCM said Dyn was active but I don't think it was working right.

I suspect it's this second 'Tamriel' that's causing the issue, even if LOD isn't being generated for it.  Any idea what's causing the issue?

The new mods are: 'Smelters for Riften and Solitude', 'Immersive Dawnguard Dayspring Pass', 'Windhelm Lighthouse', 'High Hrothgar Overhaul', 'Sky Haven Temple Merchants and More' and the Enemy AI and Enemy Scaling modules from Skyrim Redone (I doubt this one could be causing the issue).

Possibly of note is that of the above mods, only the 'Smelters' mod is listed as a Master for the DynDOLOD.esp.

Grass has nothing to do with LOD or vice versa. It hints at bad performance and/or ini problems.

Edit: In TES5Edit, unfold worldspace for skyrim.esm, click on Tamriel to bring up the data in the right window. In the right window find the row that says "FULL - Name" and see if there is any mod that doesn't show "Skyrim". Probably a translation?

A second Tamriel is really bad. In TES5Edit you could unfold "Worldspace" (if it exists) for every mod and see if there is any mod that adds an Editor ID Tamriel that has not the FormID 0000003C

Edit: You probably won't find any.

Please post TES5Edit\TES5Edit_log.txt

I found one mod using TES5Edit that came up with "LOOKUP FAILED!" with regards to Tamriel, but it's not one that I've added or updated recently: Dovahkiin Relaxes Too.  A second Tamriel in Dyn hasn't come up before now and the FormID is still 0000003C though.

Attached is my TES5Edit_log file.

Right click on "Worldspace" of that mod and select remove ans save it. The mod doesn't add anything to Tamriel, the whole tree is empty anyways.

I am not sure if this indicates any more serious problems with the mod though.

That should fix the double Tamriel in the menu. Next version of DynDOLOD will work with mods changing the FULL name.

Then try generating again.

Having no performance loss can only mean one thing: you need to choose medium or high settings next time.
