Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

Recommended Posts

BTW - when I was testing my mod set up I noticed in the physical character generator (when you first wake up and Doc asks you if he sewed you up right) that some things seemed messed up.  I selected "female".  I noticed that Hispanic 40 looked exactly like Hispanic 50.  I also noticed that Lobotomites Drumber has purple skin.  Is this happening in your set up?

EDIT: I have yet to DDSOpt anything.

In the DDSOpt "FNV Quick-Start Guide" (https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt#tab=FNV_QUICK-START_GUIDE), there is a missing screenshot in the "Organizing the Vanilla Textures for Selective Optimization using Batch Files" section.  I say this because it says this: "Once complete, which takes 5-40 minutes depending on the system, the "Working" directory structure will look like the screenshot to the left."  No screenshot is showing there, but I see other screenshots referred to prior to this on the page.

Drumber has released FCO 2.1.3 which fixes some missing textures. I'm pretty sure I read that others had missing textures for Lobotomites, so it might fix that issue. Also he has some optional files which perhaps should be considered for the guide: One is the 'FCO - No NPC Edits' which probably is just an .esp with the fix I suggested some time ago (edit: yeah it's confirmed, but it has been done in a lot more clean way than the fix I came up with, as the NPC race records have stayed untouched. This should be the main FCO file for use in the guide replacing aforementioned fix). Also he has some 'Fallout Character Overhaul Patches' with FCOing of 'The New Bison Steve Hotel and Lucky Casino' and 'Afterschool Special'. Don't know if the difference between the NVR3 style and FCO style will be too glaring but I will try them out none the less.

Well this ain't good. All patches (Willow, Niner (hope to see him in the guide one day), the Playable Races + Roberts Patch, as well as the FCO patches for Afterschool Special and New Bison Steve) all require the FCOMaster.esm. Since the FCO - No NPC.esp won't override the NPC records and make them magically go away, the FCO - No NPC.esp isn't that much of an improvement over the fix we're using right now if you want anything but the races. I'll go back to editing the FCOMaster.esm again, perhaps this time using FCO - No NPC.esp as a guide.

In the DDSOpt "FNV Quick-Start Guide" (https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt#tab=FNV_QUICK-START_GUIDE) under the "Archive or Move the Optimized Vanilla Texture Files" section, it mentions: "For Mod Organizer 1.2.9 or later the installation instructions for optimized vanilla textures are available in the detailed instructions for the DLC mod pages and in the Fear and Loathing in New Vegas guide".

I could not find this information.  All I could find is the placement of the vanilla files/DLCs: https://wiki.step-project.com/File:FNV_Non-MO.png.  I cannot find any information about where to place the DDSOpted DLCs.  I have a hunch about it, based off of Skyrim, but I cannot find the information for FNV.

The screenshot being referenced is the "Working Folder "Vanilla Extracted" Screenshot" to the left and up. The next time the guide is edited we''ll make this clearer. The guide still needs the screenshots and text for Fallout 3.

Thanks for catching this. Currently the instructions are only in the Fear and Loathing in New Vegas guide. The reference to the Skyrim guide was removed.

When EssArrBee has identified more mods that need optimization the section on Fallout NV mod optimization will be expanded.

Install FCO and delete the NPC records, also get the patches and the NVR3 files. When installing FCO completely remove the old one first. Install the NVR3 files in a separate file for easy removal if if NVR3 updates.

FCO 2.3.1 - I like to wait until EssArrBee updates the guide with the new versions of mods because often new versions are messed up or have things added that have to be accounted for differently.

I'll update soon. Maybe tonight or tomorrow.

I guess I need to add companions. Niner, the one with the dogs, and maybe Russel will go into testing for my next playthrough. You'd have to change the FormIDs to match the ones in the ESP then clean the masters to get rid of the ESM. More work that just deleting the NPC records.

Interlace the vanilla stuff like you would Skyrim, that is correct.

Well, maybe all of Hectrol's mods, but they all have multiple resolutions. I'm not sure what else could be used than the mods I listed. I cover landscape, bodies, weapons, armor, and clothing. I could add clutter, but I didn't think it was that helpful.

Just found out that I can't add the playable races patch and delete the NPC records from FCO.

Yeah, I just ended up deleting every NPC record from the FCOMaster.esm which didn't start with "race" in the name column. It isn't too hard to do if you just remember to sort the records by name first, then you can just delete the NPC records in batches. I just tested a new game and every race seems to work perfectly that way.

Unfortunately I'm one of the unlucky few who is experiencing the "double eye" bug. Only seen it on Willow for now (she looks like some kind of terrifying hinduistic god). I'll be trying some of the fixes posted on FCO's page, but it seems to be caused by NVR3.

In my comment I was also thinking of the use of DDSopt to improve quality with better mipmaps and to make some of the small format changes that DDSopt does for compressed textures that could be in a more compressed format (e.g., DXT3 vs. DXT5). In addition, body replacers often use large uncompressed textures for a few of the textures (e.g.,  "upperbodyfemale.dds" in the Type 3 body in the guide). For users with 1GB of VRAM or less it might be good to change this to R5G6B5 format or to reduce the size to 1Kx1K uncompressed (R8G8B8).
