Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

Recommended Posts

I just got to the Atomic Wrangler and the FPS there is terrible, lots of stutter when looking around. It's because of all the NPCs added by Populated Casinos. I used the high version at first but now use the medium version. However it is still pretty annoying. I use ToggleEmotion to make it a bit better, but perhaps there is a good fix for this?

I know its probably an engine limitation but i don't see how anyone can use Populated Casino's on high or medium without a lot of stutter. I tried many things already such as different settings in Stutter Remover, different bLoad .ini settings but nothing completely fixes it. The default ini settings seem to work best for bLoad settings. I'm not using AA or VSync, all the multithreading ini options are turned on, iNumHavokThreads=2, i increased BudgetCaps (the game still uses a scary low amount of RAM but perhaps everything is loaded in my 4GB VRAM). My system is pretty good: i5 4670K, AMD R9 290X, 16GB RAM, NV on SSD drive

There is a low version of the populated casinos mod a I believe. The biggest dips from that mod are ultra luxe and atomic wrangler. Really the problem is poorly optimized CPU code that runs the npcs. Threaded CPU calls in gamebryo are just no bueno.

Yea the NPC's put a terrible strain on the code, when i throw a grenade in the casino the FPS gets murdered along with the people. I now tried the light version which is a lot better, but very light indeed. Well, better than vanilla i guess. I just think its weird that i cant play with the high version which has been download 136.000 times.

I'll talk to author if I can to see about making a custom version.

Yeah I turned it off a while ago :). Populated Casinos actually becomes bearable afterwards.

I'll probably add something about removing that mod if you go through optimization for anyone that needs to do the armor and clothing. It isn't like Wasteland Clothing Overhaul where the textures are scratch made and still like better than vanilla even after reduction.

I linked your Let's Play too, I should have done it earlier, but I forget stuff since I always feel there is a thousand things that need to get done.

Thanks for the link man. It's much appreciated, and I can understand the tremendous feat you are taking on in putting together this guide. It really helps people like me (who are pretty new to the modding scene) enjoy the game in a whole new light.

Are you asking me to go through the optimization process with people? If so I'd be glad to help. You mean through a tutorial vid or something?

No, I wasn't asking, just making a general statement that Hall of Equipment is not good for people that need optimization for FPS.

If you have any specific details about how easy/hard following the steps are and how to make it better that would help.

Thanks for the suggestion, i turned it off. Not sure if it helps but im willing to try anything to make populated casinos work with as little fps lag as possible. Looks like they simply sharpened the textures in Hall of Equipment, making them look very grainy. If you haven't tried, the console command 'ToggleEmotions' also helps a bunch. You do need to apply it every session. You don't really notice the difference, i believe its minor facial movement like eyebrows.

I noticed when moving the video over to Premiere (ShadowPlay records at a variable frame rate),that because the framerate fluctuates so wildly with hall of equipment and enb inside casinos. The video would actually move out of sync with the audio. After removing hall of equipment and applying the borderless window option in the emblocal.ini I would get a steady 59.8- 60 fps (thats video frames rendered per second, not actual in-game framerate. Anything below 58fps results in audio moving out of sync with video, my actual framerate will dip down as low as mid 20's, but it does mean that I get much less erratic framerate jumps + vsync is enabled.) for every 10min clip without using 3rd party handbrake to encode the video before moving into Premiere.

The Better Metal Impact VFX link you provided is down on Nexus. Is there an alternate source? Does anybody know why the author took it down?

I'm removing that mod the next time I update the guide. It is included in the latest version of EVE. Also, any KiCHo666 mods that aren't on the nexus, just skip for now. He may or may not re-add them soon.

Please read the INI thread OP post with info from Queue about the INI tweaks. Sorry, I didn't see the bottom half of this post earlier.
