Fires and Embers Clipping Fix by Diego2891
Wiki Link

Improves the placement of fires, campfires and embers in their respective supports. Also fixed the correct positioning of all cooking items, like stations, pots and the various types of stands.

Comes in 3 variants: Vanilla, Embers HD, Embers XD.

Covers all SE content but not any CC content.

Many patches available, one is relevant for STEP Guide: for Relighting Skyrim SE.

I've been using this mod since the Embers XD variant became available last spring. As a side-effect of the improvements and fixes listed above, it makes Fire Hurts NG a lot more bearable and predictable: what you see is what you get - you don't unexpectedly catch fire by standing near a fire due to incorrect bounds, you only catch fire if you step on it.

Is it compatible with the older LITE version of Embers XD?  Is the LITE version just lower res textures?

So the Enhanced Lights and FX patch is not needed since STEP disables the ESP in said mod?

Yes the former LITE version (now renamed 2K) of Embers XD is just lower res textures. All versions of Embers XD use the same plugin.

The Embers XD variant of this mod is compatible with Embers XD's plugin. It doesn't care about its textures.

Correct.

Anyone testing this with STEP atm? What version, patches and placement in loadorder?

Expand

I have it in my STEP+ Parallax set up, so not a "typical" setup.

In game I have noticed that fireplaces and the like are better placed. With Embers XD (which is compatible without patching) sometimes coals looked lopsided, which is corrected with this. So for me it is a "stayer".

As far as patches go: I am using the Lanterns of Skyrim II and Relighting Skyrim patches. Since Enhanced Lights & FX is installed without the esp's, I am not sure if the patch for that would be beneficial. Besides in my load order, ELFX is mostly overwritten by other mods anyway.

As far as loadorder goes, I have it very low in my loadorder (below all parallax mods), but I guess for STEP should place it under the Fixes section.

Most of the answers to your questions are in the OP and the few posts after it.

For those that aren't:

  • Placement in load order: Sort with LOOT.
  • Patch for Lantern of Skyrim II: STEP uses the original Lantern of Skyrim (version 1), so I don't know if this would work. I don't use either one. Someone who is more familiar with those mods might tell. Or maybe ask the MAs.

Besides the patch for 'Relighting Skyrim SE' there are two other patches listed which might be relevant to add? One is for 'Realistic Water Two SE', the other is for a mod in testing, 'SB - Fixed Windhelm Entrance'?

You can use them as you like. The Step patches will take care of it in 2.3.

I just checked the RWT patch, and it's entirely redundant if RealisticWaterTwo.esp is higher priority than Fires and Embers Clipping Fix.esp. I'm not sure why the MA created this patch.

Also, the FaECL-RS patch will not be needed. The Step LW patch will incorporate FaECF changes that matter and keep all RS initially disabled refs buried... the FaECL RS patch initially disables said refs but does not bury them, but RS buries them to prevent lighting conflicts with it's other lighting customizations.

Here's an example of a FaECF treatment of a fireplace that has two fires in vanilla... probably to make it 'bigger'.

RS adjusts the position of the second fire, while FaECF eliminates it altogether. Here's the result:

vanilla  >>  RS  >>  FaECL

My opinion: Both RS and FaECL changes are an improvement over vanilla. I prefer the FaECF solution just slightly (removal of the second fire), assuming there will be a positive impact on performance. Relevant records: 000CE607 & 000CE624

Also, this is a small shack with only a single hunter, so a smaller fire seems more realistic.
