Fix for Windows 8/10 VRAM cap incoming?

This is the news I have been waiting for since forever. It'll be a great boon to the continued enjoyment of all DX9 games.

Just to be sure that means what I think it means... the days of CTD due to memory overage may soon be over? Really and truly?

Update mentions it is fixed in dev branch. Assuming no issues, it may be available in an insider flight in 1-2 months.

 

So extrapolating: mainstream...maybe 3-6 months?

 

Edit: Actually I have no idea how long it takes for a Windows insider flight build to go mainstream. Maybe sooner? Hopefully sooner.

Regardless of how long it takes, it's good news. A lot of users are still enjoying classic over SSE, but I personally think as soon as a couple things hit SSE we'll see a bigger migration to it.

Awesome News! Since I upgraded to the latest Alienware I am not able to even dual boot Windows 7. While there were some Alienware drivers released for earlier versions, mine is not supported.

 
Intel's seventh generation Core processors, the Kaby Lake series (I7-7xxx, I5-7xxx CPU description = Kaby Lake), will only have Windows 10 operating system support.
 
Dell is in alignment with both Intel and Microsoft support policies for Kaby Lake systems, limiting Kaby Lake operating system support to the Windows 10 operating system alone.
 
There will be no legacy operating system support (Windows 7 or Windows 8.1) for Kaby Lake equipped systems. 
 
I could install it on a Virtual drive, but I didn't like that idea. This is indeed very good news!

If that's a reference to SKSE and SkyUI, then in my case, you are likely correct.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like SKSE will be available for SSE anytime soon.

I know - and as it's the driving factor for a LOT of the mods I run, I just don't see moving to SSE anytime soon. It's unfortunate, because I'd LOVE to have unlimited RAM to play with. On the other hand, it also means that I have to pick mods with a bit more care and clean them out on occasion if they aren't adding anything significant to the game, so there is at least that upside.

Now fixed (for Windows 10) in the latest Windows Insider Flight build. Will be included in the Fall Creator's update for mainstream builds. It is doubtful the bug will ever be fixed for Win 8/8.1.

Can confirm it works... at this point it's still not where DX11 could be... I also think I was consistently getting 10240 on my Win7 install, but this is much better than 4064, and I can reclaim those gigabytes of SSD space now that I can dump my Win7 install.

      Installation
      Install the requirements as usual. Install the Core Files from either DynDOLOD Resources or DynDOLOD Resources SE depending on the used game version. Typically overwrite any files or refer to Load/Overwrite Orders. Install other options as desired. Unpack the DynDOLOD Standalone archive into a new empty 'DynDOLOD' directory that is outside of special OS folders like 'Programs Files' or 'Program Files (x86)', User, Documents, Desktop, Download and also not in SteamApps, game or any mod manager folders. If the tools are started without setting a Game Mode with a command line argument (-tes5 for Skyrim, -sse for Skyrim Special Edition etc.), a message window will prompt for the desired Game Mode. Since TexGen now generates billboards do not install any 3rd party billboards.
      LOD Generation
      Use TexGen to generate object LOD textures and tree/grass LOD billboards into a dedicated output folder and then install as a mod. Use DynDOLOD to generate object LOD (includes grass LOD if enabled), tree and optional dynamic LOD into a dedicated output folder and then install as a mod.  
      Major Feature Changes
      Generate high quality tree/grass LOD billboards with TexGen. No need to install any billboards. Optional ultra tree LOD is now a checkbox - remember to update the tree mesh rule as desired. Optional billboard Grass LOD in object LOD Level 4. See next post for details. Generate some pre-rendered object LOD textures, including all cities. Optional generate an underside terrain mesh to block sun rays. Automatic texture replacements for stitched object LOD textures.
