Gamespot - Greates Game Series of The Decade
Garfink replied to rootsrat's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
You know its going to be Final Fantasy that is going to win, a series that I thought was average at best, the Linear Gameplay in every single installment left me thinking the game was playing me. Even the venerable Wasteland on the Commodore 64 in 1982 had an open ended world where the actions you made changed the game-world permanently (in fact, it deleted it off the floppy disk!), now there was a game with vision. -
Borderless Window and now CTD
Garfink replied to hotelmariofan's question in General Skyrim LE Support
If the game CTD during initial load up, its usually (almost always actually) a load-order issue, where a mod(s) is missing its master(s). I would check in Wyre Bash to see if you have any boxes that has a red "tick" box, you can also check by running TesVedit and read the error message. I don't use Borderless Windows any more, I just use the setting in the current installment of ENBSeries, which include the same function. Using both I read somewhere MAY cause issues. -
A Tweak/Fix for your Shimmering Textures.
Garfink replied to Nearox's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
You tried to edit Unreal ENB? Wow you are a braver man than me! I recommend just doing a simple search on the Nexus for "enb" and you will find lots of different ENBs to try out, they are relatively painless to install and try out and you are certain to find one that suits your taste. Unreal is a cinematic ENB is probably a little to much for many, I use Somber ENB which is even worst. Try out Ruvaak Dahmaan ENB, its still cinematic, but the colors are closer to vanilla and you can use it with CoT and it is very performance friendly. It's one of my favorites. I think you will find that many people won't even play without an ENB, but if I didn't use an ENB, I would definitely still use ENBoost for the fixes. -
A Tweak/Fix for your Shimmering Textures.

I've never used NMM, I just install everything manually and track mods I am interested to see updates for and regularly use. You have to turn off AA everywhere, in your ini and your drivers, (I think its okay to set your drivers to application controlled though, but I've mine disabled.), in any case if you do use ENBs then with driver AA on, the ENB isn't able to render some effects. These instructions comes with most ENBs installation instructions. -
I noticed that there are many ENBs that are based solely on ELFX and are not compatible with Climates of Tamriel.  Which makes sense because COT messes with color and if the ENB isn't designed with COT in mind you are going to have unpredictable colors in certain weather conditions. With that in mind, I was wondering about weather mods like enhanced dynamic weather system, do all weather mods mess with color or can I use enhanced dynamic weather system (or other such vanilla weather mods) safely with any ENBs? Any general recommendation for weather with ENBs that don't like COT? (It's just that my favorite ENBs just don't support COT or even the enb-weather mod and I really miss the many different weather patterns you get with COT and its adjutant mods.  The first time I got caught in a Supreme Storm blizzard was simply awesome!) (partly answered my own question... just noticed that supreme storm is compatible with vanilla weather!)

I like EFF too, but I like the AFT's make anyone your follower function a lot. (I've had no issues with EFF or AFT both) I stopped using SIC and Monster Mod in general, in my quest for "No-Tolerance for crashes", not saying these are the causes for crashes, but I've deactivated these mods early on to help eliminate causes for crashes. I will probably be reinstalling these for testing sometime soon, but since I have no more crashes for the moment, I intend not to mess with my install too much!

You could be right, I will be interested to see how "detailed" this mod's descriptions are. Still the choice is nice. -
A Comparison of Water Mods
Garfink replied to TechAngel85's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I am in love with Realistic Waters 2, I think it melts the best of Pure Water and WATER, with calmer darker still water of pure with the nice water flow of WATER. The things that won me over is the lapping water of the lakes which are better then Pure Water & WATER and the new specific water sounds for different bodies of water. (I've copied over the splash.fx from WATER into Realistic Waters 2 and that made everything perfect.) -
I've played Requiem with S.R. I pretty much took what the Requiem Readme as gospel and deleted all the mods that double up on what Requiem edits (which is a lot of mods) and kept the graphics mod and mods like say... Convenient Horses, Amazing Follower Tweaks and Autosave Manager, which doesn't compete with Requiem and are somewhat synergistic. I also took all the mods that added new spawns to the world (like monster mod/SIC/Radiance) out and I've never used AV (apart from testing). Worked fine without any specialist homebrew patches. I got SUM running fine by messing with the blocklists. But I remember in my playthrough with it eventually, I didn't use SUM, as I only had ASIS that needed reproccing. Same thing with Skyrim Unleashed, just followed their webpage's recommendation and judiciously picked modes that don't conflict with its philosophy.

Aye, I imagine it to be even bigger than Krakatoa, it is made from the heart of a divine after all! Artistic license is fine with me. Just thought it was interesting to bring up the topic of scale. The scale of Tamriel is clearly dictated by the Game Engine at the moment, but what is really the scale of Tamriel? I suspect in Elder Scroll Online, to fit so many players, Skyrim will probably be much bigger, so maybe we will get closer to the actual scale of Tamriel.

Not AV or ASIS, it's too much scripting and texture size problem at that exact spot. Garfink Skyrim Junkie Anonymous.

A Tweak/Fix for your Shimmering Textures.
Garfink replied to Nearox's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Odd, I have never had this issue, apart on a left side wall on the bridge into the front door of windhelm which I ignore, never had these issues you describe. But I am using a different graphics card. (Titan). I also use MO/SKSE, so I doubt it's that. Have you try messing with you shadows settings, could be that too, I had a similar problem with grass if I turn off grass shadows. Oh, and some of the hairs from apachii hairs can flicker too I have founds, but not all. As for AA I turn off all AA in my drivers and just use the AA that comes with ENB versions >0.214 Garfink Skyrim Junkie Anonymous. -
No, most (almost all) mods still need the ESP. Only with the Bethesda HD texture pack are you instructed to delete the esp. Garfink Skyrim Junkie Anonymous.

SKYRIMLE Skyrim Realistic Texture Overhaul (by Frozunswaidon)
Garfink replied to Yggdrasilion's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I still prefer SRO, in-game in my testing, I found SRTO has more saturated colors compared to SRO, using the same ENB. I also found SRO seem to tile blend better than SRTO. But this is a personal taste issue though, as I prefer a bleak cold Skyrim. -
Found a map of Tamriel with a scale, but I am not convinced that it is official though. But it appears the east edge of Skyrim is about 250 miles from the Red Mountain, which means you probably can see the smoke gushing out of the volcano in a thin stream, but not the volcano itself, which should be a speck on the horizon. But based on this map's scale the whole continent is about 2000 miles from Western Hammerfell to the Eastern coast of Morrowind. Which seems rather small for such a diverse array of flora and climates. So I am not buying it. Given the range of weather from north and the south, the size of Tamriel based on Earth geography should be at very least 10000 miles (probably more) from the top to bottom to even remotely give such diversity to climate. So I am not buying it. You should not be able to see the Red Mountain from Skyrim if Tamriel wasn't limited in scale by the Game Engine.

ACCEPTED Book Covers Skyrim (by DanielCoffey and doccdr)
Garfink replied to dstansberry's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Not realistic, you can't burn these newly covered books for warmth... (Seriously though, great mod, most of the covers are great and definitely should on one of the extended guides. Even after the great mod cull I did recently, this mod remains a staple.) -
dont know why skyproc gives such trouble with MO
Garfink replied to exploiteddna's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I did not install MO in the "default" directory, never thought about it really. I solve my problems by installing the Skyproccer directory of the mod (Reproccer, SUM, automatic variants, ASIS whatever) manually in the data directory of your skyrim installation directory and direct Mod Organizer to run the jar files there. Works like a charm. -
A mod that make townfolk ignore accidental hit during dragon combat, sounds doable.
