If you have 4GB or more of system RAM you should be fine, 8GB is optimal. For VRAM 2GB will be fine to run all STEP mods (a few at hi-res) and 2 forms of AA. If you have 1GB you will need to use SMAA only and stick with all the low res versions of mods. Less than 1GB you will have to seek out mods designed to make skyrim work on laptops to install on top of STEP. Most CTD's are caused by 3 things. Poor load order, use BOSS to fix thisBad mods, we have lists of mods with errors that should be avoidedConflicts between mods Corrupted savegames can result from any of the above and you will need to revert to a save before you installed those mods to continue playing without error.

SKYRIMLE Requiem - The Roleplaying Overhaul (by Xarrian and Ogerboss)
frihyland replied to frihyland's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
ENB is the exception not the rule. Other packs are going to be centered around specific playstyles so many packs may not be compatible with each other. For instance this mod may go into a Morrowind pack that I am (very slowly) putting together and will be incompatible with a realistic combat pack for instance. In general our focus is always going to be on the core STEP mods, packs will be available on the wiki only. -

No idea, but he checks his thread here regularly so you could post there and ask him.

AI & spawning problems with higher ugrids?
frihyland replied to Necrokat's question in General Skyrim LE Support
There is no reason for skyrim to ever use more than around 2GB of RAM unmodded (It was written for 2GB consoles after all), that's like asking why you car doesn't use all your gas to drive a few miles. If you soup up the engine it will use a bit more, and the same with the modifications we are making to the skyrim engine, but there is no reason it should use it all, I would be very worried if it did.  The real question is why would you want to? If it allows you to achieve a tangible goal than you could write your own memory injector for skyrim to use as much as is installed on your board, but skyrim would still function exactly the same way even using 32GB of RAM, unless you rewrote the whole engine.  What are you trying to achieve by using more RAM?  If you're looking for more stability, using all of a certain resource is always a bad idea, you always need a good chunk in reserve to handle unusual events. -

Completely slain after not playing Skyrim for 9 months
frihyland replied to Raistlin's question in General Skyrim LE Support
First try starting a new game and see if everything works right. If it does than your savegame may have problems that are pretty difficult to fix, if you really want to continue your savegame check the troubleshooting wiki. -
The idea is awesome and the potential is huge, but much like other overhauls the likelihood it goes off track is great also. I wish him well and am keeping tabs on this.

First the good news, out of 1763 mods (down from 4k after ditching the redundancies) only 342 mods contained structural errors. So that's about 1 in 5 mods with an issue, so it could certainly be better but its not as bad as I feared.  This is a pretty good cross section of mods, I been downloading anything at all that got on hot files for the last few months plus anything else I came across that had any potential at all. Remember this test does not check logic, version, or compatibility!  Just that the file itself is a good foundation for those other things :D Here are the worst offenders, #1 is the worst mod tested with 2735 errors and the rest are in order of structural errors. This is the do not use list. Here are the 2nd tier of offenders, #1 has 32 errors and the rest are in order of structural errors. This is the strong warning against use list. Here are the 3rd tier of offenders, #1 has 11 errors and the rest are in order of structural errors. This is the not recommended until fixed list. Here are the winners in the pass fail test - no errors found in any of these. This is the safe to use list.

Just finished testing the top 400 ranked mods on Steam Do Not Use Less than 30 errors Error Free Steam starts doing pretty weird stuff after you start downloading multiple mods with the same esp name and even weirder when you pass the 300 subscribed mark :P But alas not a single error or even a warning to quit being stupid.

Here is my results after running STEP through TESDump this test does not check logic, version, or compatibility! Just that the file itself is a good foundation for those other things. Don't panic, this is not impending disaster or anything, just that some of these are not good choices for STEP going forward and you should know what we found.  This is generally not the kind of errors that are gonna cause save corruptions (unless more than a couple hundred errors) more likely its sucking performance and stability.  Also on error numbers, be aware that a single problem can cause multiple unique errors. What we are dealing with at the base of Jenga pile.  Seems like a lot at first glance, but considering there have probably been upwards of a million edits each by dozens of developers using dozens of different CK versions its actually not too bad. Vanilla-You have to use these :P Here are the worst offenders, #1 is the worst mod tested with 2872 errors and the rest are in order of structural errors. This is the do not use list. Here are the 2nd tier of offenders, #1 has 14 errors and the rest are in order of structural errors. This is the strong warning against use list. Here are the 3rd tier of offenders, #1 has 6 errors and the rest are in order of structural errors. This is the not recommended until fixed list. Here are the winners in the pass fail test - no errors found in any of these. This is the safe to use list.

Error List updated for Oct 3rd version of Gems and TESDump. Â (I won't be doing this regularly but a new version came out and I was still set up for testing, soo here ya go). Do Not Use Less than 30 errors Error Free A few of the esp in the error free section are actually ess (savegames) which can't be tested yet so they get an automatic pass, but they got changed to esp at some point during search and replace cleanup, just FYI.

AI & spawning problems with higher ugrids?
frihyland replied to Necrokat's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Ugrids 7 is the most that the skyrim engine can handle without breaking itself apart. Think of it like severely overclocking your cpu without adding any way to cool off the extra heat generated, guaranteed meltdown in due time. Same with skyrim, you are exceeding the intended specs without accounting for the collateral damage. -
Check out the wiki, we have guides for doing exactly this. Â Skyrim Installation and Troubleshooting in particular get pretty specific.

Top 400 or so Steam mods tested
frihyland replied to frihyland's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I actually mean it fairly literally these days, the amazing stuff that TES5Edit and Gecko can do with the vanilla ESM's gets better every day. We'll have real fixes in a few months, maybe sooner. That's when stuff will just start exploding. -

You only need to remove quest items added or modified by any mods you have. As stated in the guide any active spells you will have to console back on afterwards if you are lazy, otherwise just go get a blessing or visit a stone or whatever you did to get it in the first place.
