  1. The order of installation is not important as long as the required patches, that enable the non-Vanilla companions to work, are also enabled. So if you want 'Lucy West' to accompany you, you will install this mod and then the Lucy West mod and then activate the patch included in this package, JIP CC&C - Lucy West.esp. The only proviso is to ensure the patch is enabled after both the mod providing the companion and JIP CC&C.
  2. About time this topic had a bit more substance to it so I was going to add some more information when it dawned on me: "why not just provide a link to one of the best articles around that discusses this subject?" The following link is to Lee Dohm's blog. He is currently one of the moderators on the Atom forum and has a wealth of knowledge on handling issues, and those that post them. So, before you run off and completely dismiss his blog and continue on to posting your report, please read it. Writing Good Bug Reports
  3. Maybe a case of 'caving in to pressure'? Microsoft has released an update that prevents some updates from automatically applying themselves to your system.
  4. I see you are also asking about this in the DynDOLOD thread, where it should be, so I am going to lock this and you should continue following in the other thread.
  5. You do have the 'output' path pointing to a folder inside MO's file-structure, try setting it to somewhere completely removed from MO.
  6. It's not only the OBSE dll that needs to be installed outside of MO, but EVERY OBSE plugin also.
  7. Every instance of ModOrganizer is a separate 'portable' program, ie. everything needed to install and run your modded games are stored in files and folders directly under the folder that contains the MO executable. Now, if you have several copies of ModOrganizer lying around there is no way for them to tell each other which game has already been cared for and they will 'assume' they are the first. It falls to you to know where you have installed MO and the mods that you want, there is no standard that is adhered to. What concerns me though is you say when you ran MO, Skyrim wasn't a valid option in the game selection. Was it the first time you ran MO? What setup are you running, is this a legitimate game? MO checks the registry for settings to confirm the game is installed, so if there are no legitimate registry settings there is nothing MO can do about that. Unfortunately a lot of what you are describing is just poor computer skills on your part, no offense, simply stating a fact. You need to know some basic knowledge about where files go and how to set up basic options. If I may suggest you watch the many tutorial videos and read through the wiki about MO.
  8. There was a user on the Bug Genie, MO's official bug tracker, with a similar name and issue and I just assumed it was you. Nevermind, all good, glad everything is as it should be again.
  9. No problem. Do you mind updating your other reports in Nexus and the Bug Genie?
  10. No, no problem there with those settings. Regardless of which setting you state for the fomod installer, since that mod, UIO, has a C# fomod script, the external installer will always be called. Can you check your AV package to see if it is flagging either MO or any of it's sub folders as problems? It looks like there is another process stalling the actual copying of the files in the installation. My install of 1.3.9 has no issue with any mods, especially fomods like the one in UIO.
  11. Your ini doesn't look complete, have you been able to start a basic game via MO yet? I need to see the logs from the 'logs' folder to see where the fomod installer is failing. Also when you post long text selections could you use the "spoiler" option with the "Special BBCode" (3rd icon) of the edit window or simply place: [spoiler] text [/spoiler]spoiler tags around it. Is MO installed away from any UAC folders such as those in "Program Files"?
  12. Which version are you using and could you post your logs and the modorganizer.ini?
  13. Ohh... don't get him started on that please! :O_o: Let me just say, for users that have the non-Steam version of Oblivion there are very few reasons not to use it, but for Steam users there a few hoops to jump through that make life... difficult.
  14. This guide, and indeed all the guides hosted on STEP, should not be viewed as 'teaching resources', though a lot of skills are taught by following them. Basics such as 'downloading files', 'the concept of overwriting files in mod managers' or 'how to use tools such as LOOT' are assumed to be known by the user, in the same way a secondary school teacher assumes their students have the fundamentals of language and mathematics. Modding a game is to be viewed as an advanced task, not a simple "plug'n'play" step like installing the game. Those concepts are discussed in other guides here and elsewhere or on the tool's own documentation page(s) and users are always encouraged to read those. ps. The extra files often installed by a mod such as 'readmes', 'screenshots' etc. will have no performance impact on the game whether it is run from MO or outside of MO. They are completely ignored by the game engine.
  15. I don't believe NV Interiors adds any Veteran Rangers, 'ghoulified' or not.
  16. I must admit I haven't used the Schoolhouse option but I use the Mobile Bus Home on top of the standard guide and it too uses 'Sortomatic'. While it's quirks are sometimes hard to get my head around, I have never lost anything because of that mod resource. I would suggest a thorough rethink on the installation of the 'Sortomatic' and perhaps getting as much info from the mod page to examine what is going on. What you describe sounds serious enough to be considered a major mismatch of scripts in the load order or perhaps an error in installation. To me it sounds like another mod(s) is fighting over the containers where you have placed items and depending on script load one or the other wins and hence items are lost. Sorry if that sounds vague, it is because I am not familiar enough with 'Sortomatic' resource to be more precise.
  17. Despite the intrusive push into everyone's personal life with Win10, I too tend to agree that the central framework of it is a solid base for an OS. Give it a month or two and we will have mellowed somewhat about the bloatware & phone-home apps. The difference in art style is irrelevant, all of that is too subjective to be of any consequence. I've got a fair few issues with my laptop not functioning as it should, but that is due to Toshiba not providing updated drivers, not Windows messing things up. The wife seems to happy so far with her less powerful laptop so that's a win. I'm with @DoubleYou on this one, why go for Win 8.1 as standard but then baulk at 10? XP is dead and buried and Win7 will be here for a while yet, but if 8.1 was deemed good enough I see no reason to think 10 will not also.
  18. Versions of MO prior to 1.3.9 do have difficulties with certain 7zip files that use the 'STORE/DEFLATE' compression method. @Thosrtanner has made a lot of strides in the fomod code and has been able to add some code to enable the use of these problematic mods. So if your MO is one prior to 1.3.9 you can either update or use your archive software to open the mod and then save it by any other compression method and install that file.
  19. Anything installed by a mod, that has no bearing on the actual game, ie. screenshots, readmes, etc. can safely be removed to gain some HDD space back, but it will make no change to how the game runs. MO's 'Sort' is a stripped down version of LOOT. It simply lacks the report window and the ability to edit metadata. There is no reason to run both tools. If you don't want/need those extra features, then simply use 'Sort'. If you want, or are instructed, to use LOOT, use it by itself.
  20. Just a brief comment on how easy it is for users to NOT pay attention to details. Though it is evident in this thread it isn't exclusive to this specific user, nor is it an attack on them, just an observation. @akatosh & @dragonborn are not the names of the users offering comments here anymore than @prisoner is the name of the one(s) that ask questions. Not a big deal in the scheme of things but it does highlight how easy it is to skim through information and have your mind tell you: 'yeah no worries, I got that all covered' only to completely leave you high and dry when you really need that info.
  21. So have you either optimised the files yourself or alternatively installed the texture packs from the Nexus as explained in this section? Also I have moved this to Neovalen's support topic.
  22. Sorry, that was my mistake, you need to invoke the context menu and choose: 'Refresh Data'. As for the "bash.ini", you need to make a copy of the default ini and rename it so your specific changes are applied, the documentation for WB is very good and I encourage you to acquaint yourself with it.
  23. What mod is this? It is very strange to have an esp in a bsa.
  24. There are a lot of ways to check where a plugin is coming from, the easiest is to look in the 'Data' tab and see the name of the mod that is providing it. Once you have that name you can either disable that mod in the 'Left-hand pane' or use the 'Information' dialogue to either "hide" it or move it to the 'Optional' section. Even though you say you have deleted it that file is still in the place you aren't looking, there is no other way MO can provide a file that isn't there! Using the Merge script is a very easy way to lose track of things if you aren't careful. Have you checked the 'Overwrite' folder?
  25. That being the case do you mind also making mention of this being a user error in any other locations that you have posted this question?
