Yay I win! Any icons not present in DIFF, let me know and I'll gladly add them. Especially if they are the icons that might have needed a plugin to load from the other mods, anything to regain another slot.
-
Just noticed that you have included my 'Descriptive Icons for Fallout 3' mod to the guide. Thank you, I am honoured. That being the case there is no longer any reason to use the other mods that provide similar changes to the PipBoy icons, my mod covers all of those and more. Of course you could still install and use those and hide some of my icons, but why would you want to?

If this log message perists, create a thread in the Bug Genie and let @Tannin know of it. There have been similar reports with that Windows exception message but it doesn't appear to be related to a specific issue with MO.

Globe button (search nexus for more mods) don't work
GrantSP replied to L0Apafix's question in Mod Organizer Support
When you use Chrome to visit any of the Nexus pages and you download a file, does MO handle the download or does it become one of Chrome's downloads? Or to put it another way, when you start a download does MO load and the download appears in the 'Downloads' tab? Your ini files look fine to me so there isn't anything out of place there. -
Yeah, PC gaming is the only way for me. Now as to convincing the wife I have an 'urgent' need to upgrade, that's the tricky part.

SKYRIMLE Insignificant Object Remover (by akkalat85)
GrantSP replied to alt3rn1ty's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
These sort of mods are actually some of the better options, IMO. I too am on a somewhat limited machine and any way to squeeze performance without ruining the experience is an asset. -
STEP Installed over clean vanilla Skyrim... what to backup?
GrantSP replied to ChatteringCat's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Also, if you don't want to download all of those files again, you should backup the 'downloads' folder. Lastly the ModOrganizer.ini contains all the settings for your MO and the tools that you use. If you can re-install into the same folder structure on the new system this file will restore the UI to how you left it. -
Oh... my... god! But how the hell am I supposed to play that on MY rig? Damn, just how am I supposed to factor this into my meagre budget? Anyone want to give me a present? Please!

Why so much MO hate? (semi-rant)
GrantSP replied to Octopuss's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
This whole thing has a very similar tone to early Apple vs Microsoft discussions where fanboys of either side would espouse the virtues of their preferred OS/software while taking every opportunity to take shots at the opposition. Where is that hatred now? For the most part faded into the past as everybody can now use most software from either camp at will. It is a pretty simple matter to use cross-platform software or even OS specific versions of tools that 20 years ago would be impossible to have. What's different with this discussion? Does MO do some things that are 'not established practice'? Maybe, but who decided what was the 'established practice'? Just because it introduces new factors into how mods can be managed does not make it inherently flawed and those that claim it is, (the VFS or BSA management) are merely trying to reinforce their view of the 'established' way of doing things and not whether those methods are desirable. History is replete with better designs falling to greater numbers of support for the poorer design. DC vs AC. Beta vs VHS. I would hate for MO to fall simply because it was bullied out of existence. I have seen the reminders that "such and such tool will not be given support if the user has MO" and frankly laughed to myself. OK, you don't have MO and can't test it, so why not direct them to those that can give support? Or better yet examine why you don't have that tool. Is it simply an ideological opposition or a functional matter? Isn't cooperation better than confrontation? Take the case of FNIS as used in MO. @fore was flooded with MO users that simply didn't follow good installation practice and were getting errors. He became rightly concerned and started telling users to make their complaints in the MO forum. Because of this a few simple lines of instructions were provided to him, which he placed on the description page of his mod, and the numbers have started to drop. What does this show? Instead of putting up a boundary and saying: "no support for MO users will be given." he took the option to bring it to MO's attention and a solution is now in place. The result, users feel comfortable asking in either forum knowing they can get the same level of support. Is this not the preferred option?! Whether it is xEdit, LOOT, Unofficial Patches, Wrye Bash, FNIS or any other tool/mod, if a measure of cross team support can be established, everybody wins. -
Globe button (search nexus for more mods) don't work
GrantSP replied to L0Apafix's question in Mod Organizer Support
Can you post your ModOrganizer.ini here so we can see the settings? If the 'Download with Manager' button in Nexus works, so should the 'globe' button. Also, when you execute the nxmhandler.exe in the root MO directory, what are the settings shown in that window? Are all your games managed by MO displayed correctly? The ini file created by that tool should have settings similar to this: [handlers] size=5 1\games=fallout3 1\executable=C:\\Games\\Fallout 3\\Mod Organizer\\ModOrganizer.exe 2\games=other 2\executable=C:\\Games\\Nehrim\\oblivion.exe 3\games=oblivion 3\executable=C:\\Games\\Oblivion\\Mod Organizer\\ModOrganizer.exe 4\games=falloutnv 4\executable=C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\SteamApps\\common\\Fallout New Vegas\\Mod Organizer\\ModOrganizer.exe 5\games=skyrim 5\executable=C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Mod Organizer\\ModOrganizer.exeEach game that is managed by MO should have a setting such as those shown here. It doesn't matter the order they are listed, just that there is a listing. -
HELP! MO is causing script delays!
GrantSP replied to pancakes247's question in Mod Organizer Support
hmm... interesting. Is this script lag quantifiable or is it only a perception you have? Are you able to measure it just to confirm that there is a lag? Since that mod only consists of a plugin and a BSA, the only possible problem could be in how the assets in that BSA are being accessed. Can you do a test for me? In MO change the setting in the right-hand pane for how archives are handled on the 'Archives' tab and do a comparison against itself. ie. Run Inigo in MO with archives managed and not managed. As far as I can see that is the only thing that might be causing any slowdown, but as I said above, in general once the game has loaded MO has no bearing on the running of the game. -
Thanks for that. Let's just file this one under 'W' for weird. :O_o:

HELP! MO is causing script delays!
GrantSP replied to pancakes247's question in Mod Organizer Support
Welcome to STEP. Once the game engine is loaded and the game is under way, MO has next to no influence on the game whatsoever, so the chances it is responsible for script lag are negligible if not non-existent. May I ask you since you say you have just found MO? Have you ensured you have installed mods in the correct manner? ie. the Data folder must be clean of ANY mods and only contain the vanilla files with all mods 'installed' into MO's environment. -
If that is the case could you try and pinpoint the differences in the installations? Things like UAC restrictions or symlinks or anything really that is different with the new install compared to the previous. Most of the references I have seen about this in the past recommended uninstalling softwar and cleaning the registry, but since MO makes no changes to the registry I am finding it hard to see what could have 'fixed' this.
-
This error message has nothing to do with either MO or FNIS, it is generated by Windows and is indicating an error somewhere in your OS. either with your registry, RAM errors or even poorly installed software. Doing a search reveals many ways to fix this error and I suggest choosing an option that doesn't involve installing some specific tool to fix it from a company that seems to only deal in specific errors. ie. if you see a site that says install 'FixAppHangB1-Error.exe'. Don't do it. It's probably a trojan of some sort. It is for that reason that I won't post any links to sites that offer help with this because I have no idea how trustworthy they are and don't want you to link STEP with any problems related to your fix. Apologies if that isn't the answer you are after.
-
I think what you are asking is whether you need to keep both of those backup files? If that is what you are asking, then the answer is no. In fact you don't need to keep either of them. If, for any reason, you need the vanilla files restored, the best method is to just verify them using the Steam client. This is where GamerPoet's suggestion and I differ. What Michael states though is accurate, but in my opinion, unnecessarily cumbersome. Dawnguard.esm -- cleaned with TES5Edit produces a cleaned version and the first backup = Dawnguard.esm.backup.2015_04_14_21_36_17 Dawnguard.esm (this result of the first clean) -- cleaned a 2nd time results in a new Dawnguard.esm and the 2nd backup = Dawnguard.esm.backup.2015_04_14_21_43_40 which is the same file as the cleaned Dawnguard from the first pass. The two yellow files are the same. There should be no need to clean the HiRes plugins as these only call the textures into the game. If you use MO there is also no need to have these plugins active as the BSAs they call can be loaded without them.

Mod Organizer cannot load external EXEs
GrantSP replied to swiftfoxmark2's question in Mod Organizer Support
You will be better served with an issue like this one I think, if you create a new issue in the Bug Genie. If you detail the steps to replicate this issue and provide links to the logs and any other pertinent details, @Tannin will be able to see why you are getting these crashes. As most users are not seeing these crashes, you will need to be as specific as possible: OS versions, paths to programs, any Anti-virus software, stuff like that. The more you initially provide, the quicker the resolution may present itself. -
Welcome to STEP. You may not be aware of the instructions @Tannin has provided in his Nexus download page about reporting errors so I have taken the opportunity to file this issue for you. All errors need to be filed in the Bug Genie and general 'setting things up' questions or other minor issues can be posted here of the Nexus forum. You can keep track of the issue you posted by going here.

Massive falloutprefs.ini duplication in Mod Organizer
GrantSP replied to grimZan's question in Mod Organizer Support
The ini files in your MO profiles are just copies of the default inis in your My Documents folder, with some changes you may have made. Copying the original over the expanding error-filled inis is fine, although you will need to add back any specific changes you made to them.- 8 replies

ACCEPTED Relighting Skyrim (by NovakDalton and JawZ)
GrantSP replied to z929669's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Just out of curiosity I had a look at this mod, firstly I read through some of the posts and the ones that grabbed my eye were about potential conflicts with the Unofficial patches. Do you imagine those can be simply picked up by the bashed patch? Quite a few different types of records are losing out when Relighting is active, too many to list here, What's more I'm not 100% sure if they are all actually conflicts. Obviously the <Placed Objects> will be on purpose, but there are also changes to <World Spaces> that mean nothing to me but might be important. -
Should I be updating to MO 1.3.x?
GrantSP replied to DiamondMind's question in Mod Organizer Support
I've just left a post in the MO thread stating as much. Although all the 1.3.x series are fully functional, until the main page description changes to show 1.2.18 as NOT the "Latest version", everyone should consider it as the 'stable' release, not any of the 1.3.x series. -
Benvenuti to STEP. You haven't mentioned which version of MO you are using so I will assume 1.2.18, though to be honest, I don't think that matters in this instance. Something isn't configured correctly, so let's start with the obvious. Does your Skyrim, with no mods installed, start without using MO? Does it start with no mods using MO? Does it start with mods? If you answered yes to those questions then my next question will be: do you absolutely need to back-date the bsa files? My understanding is this is an option you can take IF YOU HAVE ISSUES. If not, and the game runs just fine, don't worry about it. Now, this doesn't actually answer the question as to why that error occurs, and I am unsure why it is. My first thought is it is an issye with Windows not allowing full permission to the bsa files to allow them to be changed. Re-check all the UAC permission settings, even when run as administrator Windows sometimes plays up with these settings.

It's early morning here in Tasmania so I haven't read through all the information yet so you may be correct, 1.3.4 may well have fixed a lot of issues. However the principle is still sound, unless you are actively testing the version, it is better to use the last stable version on your system if you are just wanting to play the game or are testing mods.

fresh install with 4K and Titan X noob help
GrantSP replied to Snowelf12's question in General Skyrim LE Support
It looks like your post may have been left behind in all the work that is currently going on with the new STEP release, apologies for that. Yes, if you follow the STEP guides as they are defined you will get the best options available for you game, both with regards to visuals and gameplay. On a sidenote, if that screenshot is showing the latest version of MO that you have installed, may I suggest you upgrade to the latest stable version, 1.2.18 and use that.
