  1. The title of this thread might also be construed as inflammatory. There is no adversorial mentality with STEP towards Steam. Steam is just another means of distribution. There are hoops that need to jumped through to get things running in MO, but that doesn't mean if can't or shouldn't be done.
  2. You know I was feeling the same as you @kryptopyr for most of yesterday and today when I noticed most of the attacks were from users that have suddenly sprung up now that a 'cause' is here for them to jump on to. Notice how many of the terrible posts are from users that have less than 50 posts and no kudos or other credit to their name. I'm beginning to turn the corner and see that, by and large, the Nexus community is just being infiltrated by haters looking for a way to vent their spleens at someone. Give it a week and I am confident things will die down and we can pick our way through the carnage and see proper communication restored in that forum.
  3. If by 'external' you mean mods that aren't part of the STEP guide, then the best option is to make a copy of your STEP profile and name it accordingly and add the new mods into that. Run all the tools necessary to get it working such as LOOT, Wrye Bash etc. Any bashed patches you make with this new profile name them differently to the ones in the STEP profile and activate them only for the respective profiles.
  4. I was following you in that thread, calmly trying to elicit at least some form of response. You should be commended for you even-handedness.
  5. I am sickened beyond belief over the extent of vitriol aimed at these mod authors. Have you seen the number of 1 post users mercilessly flaming these poor people on the Nexus? Where are the moderators on that damn site. I have personally reported more users to them in this time period than in the last ten years, disgusting! Yes, this is the 'net' and we know it happens, but I have been amazed at the ferocity. Time for a holiday I feel. Until this all calms down, I may just grab a bottle and curl up on the floor, rocking gently... back and forth, back and forth. One last comment on the whole legal aspect side of things. Regardless of the licenses you impose on any mod you make, if you need to fight a company like Valve or Bethesda, even if you win... you lose. They have endless amounts of cash set aside for legal fights. Take note of Chesko's comment about the removal of his mods from the Steam Workshop. Valve say: "sure we will take them down, if we are legally compelled to do so!" End result, the mods will stay up and Valve wins.
  6. Here's my darling, 'Licorice': I rescued her about 14 years ago along with a male named 'Toffee', who sadly died about 6 months ago. Edit: No matter what I do, I can't get Google Drive or DropBox to show images properly.
  7. So much angst around at the moment, maybe we can have an alternative where we can list some of the current things happening that made us smile today? Well it is bucketing down here, so my tanks will be full very shortly, that's good. My cat is alive and well and sleeping soundly on the couch, that always makes me happy. Got a couple of good quotes for the installation of a heat pump, a few hundred cheaper than I expected, can't complain about that. The wife still loves me, I think, that's a good thing. I'm not dead.
  8. Actually those are nearly the same words I used in a post on the Nexus. Same idea, different phrasing.
  9. That would be my post. Here's the link to the EULA. On that point I would like to reiterate the position Bethesda/Valve are taking. None of what has transpired with regard to 'paid for mods' is a "copyright issue". All of that legality has already been cared for in the aforementioned EULA. All that has happened is those two companies are officially stating something that they both could have done at any time prior to today, namely: To claim the mod authors actually have any say in what transpires is attributing more than they actually have. They, the authors, are in a no-win situation. Agree to the 'paid for'method and at least get something while being vilified by ignorant, misinformed malcontents. Staunchly refuse, based on some imaginary moral grounds, and keep your user-base though miss out on some compensation.Whether you like it or not, modding has changed and will never be the same again. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so. Just remember, if you mod because you love the game/modding, just keep loving the game/modding and everything else is secondary.
  10. Just to elaborate a little more on what @Neovalen said. There is no need to follow those suggestions as the order offered in the guide is already taking those potential problems into consideration. MO's suggestions are based on some code with in the program and, as with all code, it doesn't always see what humans see. You could quite easily move just the bottom listed mod in that list to a new position and they would all go away. Or maybe two of them. The point being, the PMOP code is still a WIP.
  11. Looks like the Nexus hammers have been falling on posts over in the iNeed forum. I tried to write a post that asked for calm and offered some support for modders in general and Isoku in particular. Moved on to some other threads and then went back and it looks like the last days worth of posts have just been pruned from existence!
  12. As I mentioned in the thread in the Banter Inn, Bethesda is well within their rights to do this because they own any content produced by the authors, not the authors themselves. All that is happening is Bethesda/Valve is allowing authors to have a little slice of it. Bethesda is well within their rights to just take all the mods themselves and sell them and give the authors nothing! Isoku may have handled it better, but what he is doing is just fine. He has provided some great mods and if he gains something from it, all the best to him.
  13. The OWB plugin only requires the UHNV plugin and Old World Blues & FalloutNV to run so unless you have it loading before UHNV or you don't have Old World Blues, I don't see why that plugin would mess things up for you. Unless you have an existing bashed patch that is referencing these plugins and there is a mismatch in the load order with that patch. You will need to eliminate plugins out of the load order to make sure of what is going on. If you are installing this over an already started game there may be problems with stuff baked into the save game so try and see what, if anything, is missing or extra in the save you are trying. On the other hand if this is a new game, and it should be, if you run LOOT or otherwise order your plugins correctly it should just work.
  14. Take note of this section of the Creation Kit EULA regarding ownership of modded material: Essentially Bethesda & Valve are calling in that right. Despite the assertion of modders, and the support of sites like Nexus that imply ownership of modded material, modders have in fact simply been feeding the fatted cow that belongs to Bethesda, not their own. No matter what time or effort you, the modder, have invested YOUR work is in fact NOT YOUR work and never has been. Making it a paid for content service is just the logical next step from the companies that actually DO OWN that content. All that has happened now is they, Bethesda & Valve, have said: The only difference to this model is with tools that have absolutely no connection to assets owned by either company. If you have a mod that requires the use of a tool to setup the mod correctly or create the finalised product fit for installation, and that tool doesn't allow for paid for use, then you may have bitten off the hand that feeds you. As noted elsewhere, SKSE is a tool that is released on the MIT license and can be used in this manner, so all is fine in that regard. Plugins that use SKSE may not be, and if your mod requires those plugins a legal minefield is before you. (or Bethesda) FNIS is another tool that is used to make certain mods work properly. @fore has explicitly stated that he does not allow the use of his work in paid for content. Policing that might be a very tricky matter. What about the 'proccer' style tools? What happens if the authors decide to favour one side or the other of this paid for model? How will we decide to use, or not use, mods that require these tools? If the developers of xEdit or LOOT or MO ask for money I will have no problem paying for these, as they are solely the work of those developers and contain nothing derivative of Bethesda and hence there is, in my mind, no issue. I don't have a problem with the modders that want to get something back for all their work, but I'm afraid all that I see in this model is them being screwed over by the big guys that actually OWN the content.
  15. When you install it MO should offer to use the BAIN method, when it does say "NO" and use the manual method instead. In the dialog that now appears there should be the mod outlined with all the folders it is packaged with and the teaxt in RED saying: "no top level data" Now assuming you have all the DLC necessary to play, expand each folder under the folder labelled 'Core' and drag each *.esp & *.bsa into that 'Core' folder. You should end up with 'Core' containing all the files and possibly the readme.txt if you want it. Right-click on 'Core' and "Set data directory" and install the mod. From here you can open the 'Information' window and move any plugins into the 'Optional' section or just use them all. Activate all the plugins ensuring they are in the correct order and the game should just play. I just now grabbed it and installed and it works fine.
  16. Well I wake up and find the internet has exploded. Just spent an hour or so on Nexus, wading through the quagmire of posts from irate users and modders that are justifying their position and came across a salient point that needs re-iterating here. EDIT: as I'm typing I see @Neovalen has beaten me to it. This is going to send ructions through the modding community as we all have to figure out which mods are now tainted by this blight and expunge them from support and patronage.
  17. @zilav I took it you had a specific bug in mind, perhaps I read more into your post than there was. BTW it isn't that hard to install MO and make some tests. Its not like installing a fresh OS in a VM or anything like that which I have seen many do when testing. MO isn't a minor player anymore, perhaps a broadening of the testing base would be helpful to all. @octopuss Yes, I thought this might be something different.
  18. How so? If you outline it for me I can create a bug report for it.
  19. I maybe just tired, but that made my day, I am still giggling uncontrollably laughing in a manly fashion now.
  20. The wall of rain sounds like a common Real Shelter error in patch creation. Just re-run your Real Shelter patch creation again. Haven't played Skyrim for a while, and hence not used the later versions of Real Shelter, but I bet that at least is an easy fix.
  21. The current instructions are for updating the internal LOOT and not the full external LOOT. Using the internal version will ONLY sort your files but you will not get a report or be able to edit metadata as you would with the full LOOT. Running LOOT as a tool from the executables list is still the easiest option and provides the full LOOT experience.
  22. Welcome to STEP. You haven't stated which version of MO you are running or the settings you have set to handle fomods, which is what FCO is. So, assuming you have either the 1.2.18 stable version of the still in testing 1.3.4 version of MO the result will still be the same. In the 'Settings' dialog and on the 'Plugins' tab, ensure the 'Fomod Installer' has both options set to false. In both cases the 'external installer' will run and show the FCO installation screens. If it doesn't then perhaps there is an error in your current MO installation and you should rectify that. Easiest way to do that is to delete everything in the Mod Organizer folder except: 'mods', 'downloads' & 'profiles' folders and your ModOrganizer.ini and with the latest full archive version of whichever MO you like, I suggest 1.2.18 if you don't wish to share in testing, and copy the contents back into the now empty Mod Organiser folder. (empty except for those folders/files I mentioned.) This will preserve all your current settings and mods and will provide you with a fresh install with no leftovers from previous installs that 'might' be causing errors. If you are still getting this error, post the logs from the 'Logs' folder here and if a *.dmp file was created, post that also. Ideally you should create a new issue report in the Bug Genie, but for the time being post them here and we will try to assist as best we can.
  23. Installing software to manage torrents can be a very hazardous affair. Be sure to READ ALL DIALOGS before clicking ok. Many installers bundle useless, if not nasty, additional software in their installer. If you are unsure, don't do it. Better to be safe than sorry. (This warning message is based on a generalised view of most torrent software and not specific to that which is linked to above.)
  24. Ahh... found an error in my placement. Incinerator was included in the vanilla assets not the DLC03. Fixed for the next version. As for the stats. I'm not convinced on the idea of providing text for those, need to mull that over a bit more. Thanks for the feedback.
  25. There is a good reason why they are not called 'Irish Elk'. Ireland doesn't exist in the world of Skyrim! Since there are no other elk around it is superfluous to add the descriptor 'Irish', or for that matter any other name you care to think of. Elk is what they are and that is what they are called. My 2 cents worth anyway.
