Confused about loot meta rule instructions.
Shadriss replied to Cameron9428's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Realistic Water to be loaded after HearthfiresChimneys, so your #2. Read that as "Mod X should be LOADED AFTER: Mod Y." -
Not really - She simply knows who runs the Blades, so to speak. She could still very well believe in her soul that Paarthunax does need to die... but she also knows that the Bragonborn is whom the Blades serve. A close anology would be the crew of a ship and her Captain. We don't always agree with what we are directed to do, but the Captain gives the orders and we follow. Recommend anything we want to, but once the law is laid down... So yeah, I don't see anything 'breaking' about that statement in and of itself. Otherwise... looks like a solid replacement then, and gets rid of those unspoken lines as well, which is even better.

ATTN: STEP Modders (Rqst For Help)
Shadriss replied to Shadriss's question in General Skyrim LE Support
That's what I'm working from atm, DY. So far (not far into it), it's relatively clear, but even these suffer from a case of "Do this" without telling me what I'm looking at. As an example, early on for camera controls, it tells you to load up Anises' Cabin as an example. It does tell me to do so from the Cell View. It does not (so far) tell me what I'm looking at IN that window, so I can start making sense of the data displayed. I imagine I'll pick that up a bit more as I go... maybe I'm just being overly wishful. The RDTuts I mentioned earlier for the Quake 3 Engine were brilliant, simple, and taught good process at the same time it taught commands, views, and how-tos. I was spoiled I think. :) -
ATTN: STEP Modders (Rqst For Help)
Shadriss replied to Shadriss's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I absolutely detest video tutorials. I applaud the general efforts of those who do them, don't get me wrong, but there are several consistent issues that arise with them: A) Badly organised. They tend to be long on the person rambling and short on actual usable content. They don't plan out exactly what they intend to do and say, so it ends up being a ramble-fest. This is made worse by... B) Somehow, every person who does one seems to have a thick accent. Granted, this varied by where you live and what you are used to, but as I grew up pretty much all across the USA (USAF Brat), and don't have much of one to speak of, it's very difficult to listen to a thick eastern european accent for twenty to thirty minutes of rambling. C) Even if A is avoided, typically it is one, possibly two, videos in a series that are connected in process only because of the person who is doing it - IE, there is no long term plan to teach the program beyond specific applications of a given tool as opposed to the program. Manuals on the other hand, tend to be written more for people who already know what they are looking for, so those don't really work well either. What I was hoping for was a comprehensive series that starts at square one (I think I can figure out how to install... and did) and works through the process. Most that are written basically just have you mimic thier actions without any explanation of why you do a thing or when it may be better to do it an alternate way. I'm pretty much certain that you're correct in how it's going to happen, though Aiyen. Problem is, even the small portions of what I plan are huge. Before I can even begin to build it, I have to figure out where it's gonna be (Either the tundra expanse west of Whiterun or the hot springs area of Eastmarch), and that means going trhough the editor to figure out how to see those specific areas, which so far have eluded me. ENough whining from me for the moment - I have an interface to figure out. -
First, to set everyone's mind at ease, it's not a request for mod support - it's a request for modER support. Myself and a friend have made the tentative decision to steep into the modding realm. As I've mentioned before in other posts, I have some small history with modding other games and thier assets, and this friend assisted with that to a degree, so I have SOME idea of what I'm getting into. Unfortunately, I had something then that I do not, so far, have here. SPecifically, a set of tutorials for the CK that read as if they were in actual English. To this point, my searches have really only turned up the manual for the CK itself, which is not really helpful to me. What I would like is something along the lines of (and here, I'll date myself as some of you will never have heard of it) the old Rich Deisel GTKRadiant tutorials for the Quake 3 Engine. THe key here, to me, is that they be clear, consice, and general enough in nature to allow me to figure out how to APPLY the ideas, instead of just "Put X here, put Y here, and you have duplicated my work. Good Job!" If I get my feet under me for this, I have a rather ambitious idea for a mod, but I'll save that for later. I tend to try things way beyond my actual ability, but I seem to grow into them and they turn out really well... or have in the past. Hopefully, this will as well. So, if any of you are familier with a good set of tuts or are willing to assist with CK Familierization yourselfs at some level, your time or directions would be appriciated here. Moderators: Wasn't sure where to stick this, and it's the only Skyrim community I even talk in, so please feel free to move this as needed to a more appropriate area. THanks for your consideration in advance.

Nice... too bad there's no way to put the nice soups in the palaces and the bad soups in the dungeons. *sigh* I'd summon the spirit of Isoku to work his modding magic and make Skyrim tell him what to do, but I don't see this being in his realm. (Wonders of the Kitchen?). Honestly, they do look pretty good - just not sure it's something I like enought to drop into my LO. It's not like I look at the soup all that much... if at all.

Aren't the labels already covered by SLOD - Potions and Poisons or the Radiant and Unique Potions mod? I know SOMEWHERE there's a mod that touched the labels... in the STEP Order, I mean.
-
... wow. We have finally modded and textured everything else in the game, and are left with only soup left to retexture. Which is almost ironic, considering I call my MO profile "Mod Soup"...

I don't hold with overclocking on general principle. Yes, I know it can be done successfully, but as all it takes is a single mistake in setting it up to fry a chip, I simply won't do it. I've lost hardware to tweak attempts before - I'm not doing it with a CPU or GPU, even if there are pre built settings for it. They may well work - and then again, they may well not. It's not like products ship with bugs or anything, right? As for DX12, that's all well and good... if the software USES it. Otherwise, it's still limited in the programming calls it can make. Hence, the reason that Skyrim, DX9, is still so limited despite our ability to work around a lot of things.

Need help/suggestions on S.T.E.P. configuration
Shadriss replied to MasterKeef's question in Post-Processing Support
In general, Yea. I don't have it myself, but it features prominantly in several Packs here, and I've heard nothing but good about it. (Stabilizing my build first, that's why. :p) -

Shadriss replied to MasterKeef's question in Post-Processing Support
And that's why we do this. The happies, not the wrecking of the dragon's face. Though that's fun too. -
This has got to be the best MB Tech Post I have ever read.

Need help/suggestions on S.T.E.P. configuration
Shadriss replied to MasterKeef's question in Post-Processing Support
Change this back. If you are following the STEP guide for setup of SKSE, you enabled a Memory Fix there that, reportedly, conflicts badly with this setting. -
All true, Tech... but in this case, we also have to look at bang-for-the-buck. Which is he really going to get more from given a relatively constrained budget? He has an i5 as is, and per your first post, that should suffice, so a MB/Chip doesn't seem to me to be the path forward. To further your analogy, if the frame is already sound, you don't buy a new one if the aftermarket transmission fits and can get you the power you want for a similar price. Also, just to have fun at your expence, I would point out that the future proofing you suggest wouldn't work to hot where MBs are concerned - the MB itself, sure, but not for the chip that would go on it, since they change socket types all the time. So yeah - you can't future proof against what they haven't invented yet. :)

Delinquent Master Errors in Wrye Bash - STEP Extended + REGS
Shadriss replied to Monkee's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yeah... go to LOOT. Dunno that it will solve ALL your problems, but it will likely get you started. On a slightly related note, what the heck IS REGS anyhow? I keep seeing references to it, but... well, everyone kind of just assumes everyone else already knows what it is... -
ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Mage Guild (by cdcooley)
Shadriss replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
That's more what I was getting at... but now we're getting afield from the actual mod of discussion so... -
Not sure if it's unvoiced or not - I'm still a ways from the COllege at any rate. Now that you mention it though, Nexus did state a requirement for Fus Roh Doh, so that makes sense. Heck, even if true, it isn't the only one *I* have that does that. I think it would be a Step Killer though.

Delinquent Master Errors in Wrye Bash - STEP Extended + REGS
Shadriss replied to Monkee's question in General Skyrim LE Support
OK, maybe this is a stupid question, but I'll throw it out anyway: Why are you using BOSS? I thought it was discontinued in favor of LOOT? And if that's the case, the old BOSS masterfiles won't have been updated in forever... -
Holy Crap, Kess... $400? I didn't pay that much for MY i7/MB three years ago. Which one are you looking at? I checked the numbers for you on the last couple times I loaded in to the game, as I promised, and the highest GPU load I saw was 3100MB. Maybe slightly higher, but not much. Skyrim, anyway, won't cause you any issues, but anything relatively new very well might... that's really my big nay-say against the 970 based on what you've told me. Heavens, it may be a better option to get a slightly older card (700 or 800 series) as well as updating the CPU, and it should handle Skyrim well enough at that point. And yes, I could have just talked right to you, but NOW, I get to be ridiculed by others for my obvious ignorance, and that's so much more fun!

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56699 From the mod description: <quote> Ran across this after reading the other recent winterhold College related items. This seems to work with both of the others (Entry Requirements and the Mage's Guild NotSoFast(?)) and adds the requirements to actually... I dunno... know magic to be the Arch-Mage? Looks like, in combination with the others, would be similar to the Thieve's Guild Requirements mod we already have in STEP. Just in three pieces. I'm installed to take a look and will report when I have something. Of course, that could take a while - I suck at being a spell slinger.

ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Mage Guild (by cdcooley)
Shadriss replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Not... quite. Main Quest - Check. Companions - Check. Mages - Check. Thieves - Check. Dark Brotherhood.... not so much. Granted, it doesn't have the same timeing issues, but I think a small change to how they are handled would be nice. I haven't played through them recently, so maybe my memory is flawed (also, I'm old... I'll play that card), but the main questline of the DB would seem, to me, to suffer similar 'rapid promotion' sickness. Now, granted, the circuimstances involved are slightly different, but even so, some of the early timing still seems fast. "Oh, you killed Grelod for us... you're in!" is Ok... but then, with little to no assassinations later, things build, and quickly. But hey, if one's gonna get left out, I think we've got the right one. This pair from Cooly have been quite well done. -
Much as I want to show him some support (even post-mortem, so to speak), with this one conflicting with... well... about every thing in my load order weather and water wise, I have to give it a pass. And short of the STEP lineup changing drastically, I don't think a lot of us will either, for the same reason. Shame too... it's pretty, but not enough so over what I already have for me to gut my order and rebuild. Again.

ACCEPTED Relighting Skyrim (by NovakDalton and JawZ)
Shadriss replied to z929669's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Likely true, Spiffy... however, when looking at walls of text, it's still easy to accidentally skip over one. The miracle here isn't that none are missed... it's that there are so few (so far anyhow!). I'm not a staff member, but hey, I'll throw in with Tech on this... the combination of RS with the ELE lite makes a profound and awesomly awesome impact that should be shared with the world. Like Coca-Cola, but without the artificial cancer-inducing sweetener. Also calories. -
Maybe not so outlandish a thought - several full games in recent years have deliberately released thier own 'pirated' versions with key features messed up or left out deliberately. Not a stretch to think some mod authors (or even Valve?) doing the same here.
