GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
EssArrBee replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
I definitely want to make the game a bit harder from the survival side of things by making items a little harder to get. I added tons of mods that introduce all these awesome items in game and haven't counteracted that much with mods that make life harder. That is why I want a mod that makes some usefulness out of the repair vendors, it is part of my long term vision. Maybe I'll just make a mod that has a perk to lower repair costs, so it's optional in game. PN Rebalance has some goodies in it to really make things hard like spawn rates, Unfound Loot, and the vendor difficulty. I think I have a few of those in my recommended MCM settings which I really need to finish. I actually think that WotNM distributes high level guns to soon and I would like to do my own distribution plugin. Maybe even de-level parts of the world all together requiem style and make the game super hard. Anyways, CaliberX-WotNM patch is now out. I'm going to have to look through it all and see what is up with the installer for WotNM or if I just want to do it manually like I do now. Either way, give me a little time and I'll have it figured out. Oh, and I'm thinking the CaliberX version of the store is best, and that LITE version of the store seems best to me instead of killing everyone in the Gun Runners. -

Speech can be kinda overpowered, but that would require a lot more work changing the quests to have higher checks for speech skill. I guess I could make a patch that makes Speech start at a lower value than default. That would make tagging Speech almost required if you want to pass any speech checks. What I meant wasn't that I would throw away my weapon, I would just buy a new one and repair my weapon with it and it is way cheaper. The author of Significantly Cheaper Vendor Repairs, Grasscid, put it like this, "Weapon Repair Kits themselves are worth 20 caps flat. If they're a repair vendor, they should have plenty of these on hand anyway." I do use the vendor repair early on in game when it's cheap, but later on when I have some modded out plasma rifle or some amazing assault rifle Millenia created, I just don't use it because it scales to high. I don't want to really make it so low that it is cheating or would deter me from crafting weapon or armor repair kits. Maybe a 1:1 ratio instead of 2:1. -

I'll check that out. I think Mike Hancho did Helgen Reborn too. Why would you get a weapon repaired for double its value when you could just buy a new one for half the price? You don't pay more than a car is worth to fix if you get into an accident, you just total the car and get a check from the insurance. No clue why you have worse FPS, remove Collsion Mesh Overhaul and see if that is the culprit. I don't think it is, but it is the only thing I can think of. Thanks for testing the plugin, now I just need the author to respond to my PM so I can upload the patch and get the mod in the guide. I recommend dropping the spawn rates of the stuff in the PN MCM menu (PN Rebalance I believe) by a bunch to make it harder to survive. Also, crank up the hardcore needs settings by about 25%. WotNM seems to have problems with its installer so be careful with it even after it has been reuploaded, plus CaliberX still isn't updated so you guys shouldn't be installing it anyways. EDIT: the new WotNM FOMOD is two levels deep which means MO can't see it. -

With Alternative Start you go to History in the computer at the beginning and pick Mechanic. It starts with a Jury Rigging perk. A bit overpowered really, but if you play as much I do, then by the 50th playthrough you want to just repair stuff easily. Yeah, I know and I had been going through the list from BOSS and LOOT and comparing them, but it is tedious and time consuming. Do we report FNV changes to the Skyrim thread because there isn't one on the FAllout forums? -

Download a mod manually and it will pop up. I think MO bypasses the popup screen. -

Does anyone get repairs from the vendors on a regular basis or is it just to expensive to be useful in game? I was thinking of using a mod that decreases the formula. The current formula will charge twice the value of the weapon/armor/clothing if it is completely broken. I'm thinking the formula should be 75%-100% instead of 200%. What do you guys think? Also, added the Animated Fan, Ragdoll Overhaul, and a little PN fix for Med-X. Ragdolls is the only one that doesn't merge to bashed patch. I keep forgetting to look at the gas leak mod, but I'll get around to it. Not bad though, I've added like 6 mods in two days, so that is better than I thought it would be. Not sure if it is a good thing I have a lot going on in my life or not... -

One other thing, Weapons of the New Millenia has been updated, but the CaliberX patch will not be updated till tonight. Do not update until the CaliberX plugin is finished. I suggest downloading it now since it's now 560MB. That is a lot of guns. Like Waco, Texas level of guns. -

Okay, I got the bugs worked out on that patch and now it works for the refilled bottles too. Same link as above, just redownload. I'm going to ask the author about distributing it so I can add the mod without having to host it myself. -

It's weird because I had the same damn problem with Advanced Recon Thermal Nightvision and therefore couldn't add it to the guide. If I can't test it myself, I sure as hell can't endorse it's use with everything else. So the little fan mod is mergeable to bashed patch which means that I'm going to ad it since it's cool. Ragdolls is a good addition as well, I saw some ITMs in the plugin, but they are for records that no other mod would ever touch anyways. I made a Project Nevada - Refill Water Bottles patch. I'm going to test it out to make sure that on hardcore mode that the water does not replenish health. If someone else could verify it for me that would be great: https://copy.com/VgGev6rNUAIN Install the regular version of Refill Water Bottles and make sure that PN rebalance is installed. If water restores health then it does not work. -

I actually can't get the game to load when I install Afterschool Special with F&L's current mod list. There might be something I'm overlooking, but I patched the only two conflicts I could find. -

LOOT should work with the current load order it gives, but you miss out on a few changes from Interior Lighting Overhaul and Nevada Skies. Those are not gamebreaking changes in anyway, but by reversing the mods that conflict with ILO and NS, you get the changes from all the mods. That is a weird issue. I'll continue to try to reproduce that and see if it is a bug. It seems that Refill Bottled Water isn't working right with Project Nevada. It restores health in Hardcore mode, which isn't supposed to happen. Bottle that Water seems like the next best choice, but it adds in another level with a canteen. The Slave backpack mod is simple and easy, so that is going in. The gun follows crosshairs doesn't really matter when using weapon animation replacer. Animated Fan looks cool in game. It has no cord just like every other appliance in game, so I guess that means it is consistent. Still need to kill some more stuff to test out ragdolls though. After that, I'm going to try to add in Afterschool Special and finally finish NV Bounties II, but after breakfast. -

Okay, here's tonight's test mods: Ragdoll overhaul - Should have had this tested a while ago but to many animals to cover.Animated Fan - same author as Ragdoll, Collision Mesh, and Better Impacts, so why not.Better Gas Leak Effect - Same reason as the above mods.Improved slavebackpacks - Tiny mod, easy to test.Gun Follows Crosshairs in First Person - It's just so simple.KFE - Refill Water Bottles - This has been on the list for a long time and I want to get more survival stuff in the game and then do something that makes it harder to survive, so all the gameplay stuff makes sense. That seems like enough for me ATM. Also, here is some preliminary things I've found out about the LOOT load order: Nevada skies UE.esp and ILO - GS Shack.esp after NV Bounties I & IIADAM Complete after Trooper Overhaul-Dragbody.espILO - UE.esp after ADAM CompleteILO - UE.esp after NV BountiesILO - UE.esp after WMX.espILO - UE.esp after Laurens_Bathroom_poetry.espILO - UE.esp after Dragonskin Tactical Outfit.espWMX-EVE-AllDLC.esp after Improved Sounds FX - WMX Merged.espImproved Sounds FX - WMX Merged.esp needs sound and stats bash tagIntegration Courier Stash+WMX.esp after WMX-POPMerged.esp (technically this doesn't need to happen because WMX-POPMerged.esp isn't needed with Courier Stash Integration, I'll add a note to the guide about that).Okay, there were a couple more, but I can't remember them all and like an idiot I didn't write all of them down. If you find anything that LOOT puts out of order let me know and I'll add it to my short list. -
Are you using MO to edit the INI? YOu can access it by double clicking the mod and then go to the INI-Files tab and the uncapper.ini should be listed in the first box. Click it and all the settings will pop up and you can edit it there. Also, you could post your uncapper.ini and I'll take a look at it.

I'm not against a 10 gig download because it is big so much as that it is unstable. I'd rather it broken into maybe 10 files and then I could put it on my private VPN and give out a torrent for it with MD5 checksums to verify integrity, though torrents can have that built in if you know what you are doing. Mostly, though I imagine that something that large would flood the game with so many items that the leveled lists would crash the game. If they happen to be distributed in any way through the factions then you are really asking a lot of the engine to load all those references. My game already has some problems with script latency since I tend to have lots of open quests, so 10 gigs of armor/weapons on top of the 10 gigs of crap already in the game will just bring Gamebryo to it's knees. -
I guess I forgot how many dragr have disarm with Requiem installed. Seems that isuko is doing some quick updates to this mod. I'm going to wait a couple days and see what happens.

I just updated with a few mods. Since my nv bounties testing saves are worthless I'm gong to add in nv bounties 1 and just add in part 2 when I get to it. Collision mesh overhaul and impact effects are added as well. -
Willow may have a few deleted references in it, but they are intentional and should be left alone. I think some of the GECK stuff may be 64-bit and that gives MO problems. There is a something in the Creation Kit that is 64-bit that does that, but I forget what it is, maybe the Papyrus compiler. What exactly are you trying to do with the GECK? And 1400 hours? Man, that is a lot of time. You could have put that time into studying physics or math and be in grad school by now, but I'm a professor, so I'm a bit bias about these things.

Just Cause 2 for $3 is the Steam Daily Deal if you didn't already see it. They added the multiplayer part after some clever modders found out how to do it. Good way to support the community when stuff like that happens.
-
I don't see steam as drm so much as a service. Uplay is a service and drm, origin can be a service and drm for a few games like sim city. Plus the new find of graphics settings for watch dogs that ubisoft left out of PC version is pretty crappy. Not sure I want to support them.

It seems to me that the extremely high quality of military grade equipment is something might survive. That material just doesn't wear down like everything else. The parts that I really like though are the tactical vests. Any survivalist types would value those immensely, even in the desert. Also the face covers and helmets are something people would use a lot. I'm having problems with the mod anyways so it is a mute point. I don't think I knew about dragbody's new mod, but I'll look into it when I get a chance. He uses lots of textures from emerald reign and cabal so it will probably be a good mod. -
I actually don't mind Origin knowing that Uplay exists. I mean 8 bucks is a hell of a deal but I don't think I can do it with the Steam Summer Sale around the corner. Blood Dragon was one of my favorite games of 2013 though, pure mayhem and fun.

I think a bigger problem is that my weapon falls through the floor half the time I get disarmed. But really how often does being disarmed happen that it matters?
