I'm in complete agreement here. For STEP purposes, RL is going to be the better choice; however, personally I find RLO to be superior as well in the areas where it is mostly complete. When RLO is completed, I don't think much will be able to come close to it's realism in lighting.

SKYRIMLE Player Headtracking (by Maegfaer)
TechAngel85 replied to frihyland's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
He has proper uninstallation instructions on his nexus page and says how to clean the mod from your saves before you uninstall completely. I have attempted to reproduce the corrupt save at least 10 times without issue. All my saves were fine, but apparently you can get a corrupt save after the uninstall where one of the saves says it is corrupt and will not load. -

You should naturally lose some detail in the terrain as it gets darker outside. I don't really see that as a flaw....though it should be more like 10-12 hours and not 6. -

We need at least three (preferable more) confirmed no issues or has issues...or a mixture of results to either approve or disapprove a mod. At this point, one or two admins should test this mod themselves as only two semi-official testers (rspgc and myself) have tested this mod and we're on completely opposite ends. He's had all the issues he's posted about and I have had none whatsoever. I would like to ask rspgc some questions about his testing setup as he's never confirmed when asked about the proper testing when asked (unless I missed it). a) did you test it on a fresh Skyrim install? b) did you test it on a fresh STEP install with no additional mods? (STEP only) c) did you clean up your installations? (defragment...unless on SSD...and run BOSS) d) did you start a new game when testing? If the answer to any of those is "no", then it wasn't a proper test. Once a, b, and c are done (which is a process), then test test test with that setup. I personally have two set ups. One for testing and one for playing. My testing setup is backed up and zipped so I can restore it at any time to do testing. This make switching between testing for STEP and actually playing the game much easier. -

Rpsgc, you are entirely too aggressive and defensive. I was merely providing the other side your your post (positive posts about the mod). I never said, not once, that I didn't care about what others are saying. I also never said I think a mod is good and safe because of endorsements. Please don't assume things in others posts. If I somehow offended you in my reply, you should know that is never the staff's or mine own intention and I do apologize. For anyone testing this or any other mod, please follow the proper testing procedures so that we can accurately approve or disapprove this mod. Thanks! -
It's a little out-of-date, but for those that are interested please check out our Mod Testing Guide to make sure you are completely willing to properly test mods for STEP. It's really annoying having to repeat myself to users that are testing mods and saying that a mod isn't working right when they didn't follow the instructions for the mod or the proper testing procedure. I've asked users, "have you followed the proper procedures or did you just toss it into your current setup and report it not working?" *crickets chirping* "That's what I thought..."

Even if that is so and he couldn't improve upon it, he could have at least left it up for others (including STEP) to use. I just happened to have already downloaded it. -

I don't want the view point on this mod to be skewed from rpsgc's post above. Yeah, a few people have issues with it, but go read through the comments yourself. For every one of these posts you'll find 15 more that say "this is awesome", "best non-essential mod on here", "wouldn't play skrim without it", etc etc. These negative posts seem to be about 1-5% of the total posts in the comments. (which I would like to point out that every mod in STEP has negative posts about it) I think this one says it best: I would highly suggest for anyone having issues with this mod to do a fresh Skyrim and STEP installation and start a new game (also part of proper testing procedure) to see if the issues are still present in the new install and new game. (I'm redoing my installation right now...slow internet connection so it might take a few more days). -
I trust up but I'll have to test the Inspector without ENB to see if it works or not on my end. I'll try to do that later. Been really busy with work and moving...plus a slower connection where I moved.
-
Is that with extensive testing though? Let's face it... Skyrim is going to crash occasionally regardless of RAM/VRAM. Extensive as me playing for a few hours strait... was watching PrecisionX on my g15. Your right though not all Sky rim CTDs are caused by these issues but a fair # are. Hope that when Elder Scrolls VI rolls around it'll be DX 10+ with maybe 64bit addressing. DirectX 10 is would still be outdated...I'm hoping to make a full update to DirectX 11 at least and I don't see any reason why they wouldn't go with a 64bit option at least. Everything is moving towards 64bit so games need to also.

Troubles with SKSE 1.6.9

I have just updated to this version and haven't completed my fresh install of STEP with all the updated mods so I'll check into it as soon as I'm finished. -
Wet' computer server could cut internet waste
TechAngel85 replied to rootsrat's topic in Step Banter Inn
The idea of submerged computers in some type of liquid for cooling as been around for a really long time. It's just rarely been put into use. I can remember an episode of The Screen Savers on TechTV (now G4) in which they showed this concept. -

You are welcome! -
I don't use anything over 1K textures (unless they're not available), run at 1366x768, and have a very custom set of settings and INI tweaks (shadow and water resolutions are turned down, etc.). I max out my 1GB of VRAM, but to be honest I don't know how much system ram is being used by the TES process. I don't have those sensors on my system for system ram during the benchmarks. I'll have to use Processor Explore later to find out. What sucks is how demanding Skyrim is. I can play other games (Mass Effect 2&3, Dragon Age, Sims 3, Borderlands 2, etc) at 1600x900 (laptop's max resolution) with 4xAA and 16xAF while still maintaining around 35-40 FPS. Skyrim...forget it! No AA, 8xAF, and 1366x768 just to maintain 30-35 FPS.

V0.99 is up: Also, the guide needs to be updated for this mod. There is now an optional file for Dragonborn users that adds compatibility for the ash texture (mentioned in first point above).

In-Game Brightness Settings
TechAngel85 replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Unless the ENB specifically says to move it (a few do), it's meant to be left at default. -

Unfortunately so yes. Going to go through and see who the big culprits are. Even with all my hardware I apparently can't use all 2048 textures without hitting cap. On a side note, has anyone install Extreme STEP? I'm curious if it hits this limit as well. We need to go through and gather all the questions up and try to answer them.
-
Seems like the 4GB limit has also be confirmed by others on Nexus: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/787596-skyrim-ram-usage-increases/ EDIT: After Googling and reading some more, I'm convinced that this CTD issue is caused by Skyrim reaching it's RAM limit. We only need to confirm by a few more testing. Viking and Neovalen have both already confirmed this issue at around 3GB of usage already. The fix for this would only be to decrease your mod load.
-
If a test configuration can be put together, I'd be willing to test this. I have 8GB of RAM with 1GB of VRAM.
-
The way you're highlighted text reads (and this just might be me), is that it depends on how the DX9 application (game) is written to handle the allocations. ...allocations are "written" as lockable or not. This makes a difference on how they are handled. It's probably going to be impossible to know how the allocations are written for Skyrim. Again, the only test I can think of to check out the theory of the game reaching it's RAM limit is to have several people push it to that limit and see if they all have crashes occur.

You can log fan level and tachometer in NVIDIA Inspector (I don't know about GPU-Z). You can also control fan speed with Inspector. This is assuming you have the correct sensors and controls on your cards for it.
