Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD

What is this?

DynDOLOD is a set of tools based on TES5Edit and TES5LODGen to automatically create a Skyrim mod based on the load order which adds distant LOD for objects to Skyrim. By combining DynDOLOD with TES5LODGen users can create drastically enhanced traditional static LOD plus tree LOD and the new, optional dynamic distant object LOD in a few 'simple' steps.

DynDOLOD is meant for enthusiast modders who are familiar with using TES5Edit. Enthusiast modders have a general knowledge of computers, folders and files, especially Skyrims 'Data' folders and how to install mods safely with a manager or manually.

To fully expand the visual experience and use the additional features offered by TES5LODGen the DynDOLOD package comes with over 1000 new or updated LOD models for objects that were badly missing from the original game like the Skyhaven Temple or landscape features like roads, smaller rocks and dirt cliffs that simply make the distant landscape look much more natural and alive.

Requirements

SKSE

PapyrusUtil 2.8 or higher

DynDOLOD Resources - Make sure to use DynDOLOD Resources version only with matching or higher DynDOLOD Standalone versions but never with older versions.

Vanilla Skyrim LOD Billboards from TES5LODGen or Indistinguishable Vanilla Tree Billboards. If using tree mods that do not include billboards, check TES5LODGen for ready-to-use tree LOD billboards for some tree mods. For STEP users all billboards are included in STEP Texture Compilation.

Hopefully this is the right place to post it but some feedback on the TexGen script that lets you generate your own LOD textures.

 

My primary comment on this is that it doesn't seem to generate new LODs for some of the files based on my new textures, most noticeably it skips mrkbuildingslod01, mrkbuildingslod02 and mrkbuildingslod03 even when I have Markarth textures installed. I have tried using TexGen with Noble Skyrim, Granite Markarth and the most prominent change of More Dwemered Textures (which adds in a lot more gold) but it doesn't seem to detect it and generate textures for them.

Hoping this is just a bug, but if not I'd like to request that as apart of the function as I was planning on removing my crappy LOD textures and telling people to use this instead, but can't do that if its not working :)

If you'd like any info such as Tes5Edit outputs etc I'd be happy to supply them

From the TextGen document "With DynDOLOD TexGen.pas most but not all LOD textures can be generated from the full textures in the current load order. This is a bit experimental and doesn't work for town LOD textures."

If you have a look at the textures you mentioned and compare them to tileable landscape textures it becomes immediately clear: The town LOD textures are rendered from the full models and not a simple derivative of a full texture. Then they are processed with an image program to create the final LOD texture.

 

So, those LOD textures require manual work to look correctly. Mods modifying the textures of those building should ship with their own version of the LOD source textures or at least an updated version of the vanilla LOD atlas texture. In the last case split the atlas texture back to distinct LOD textures.

 

The real solution is to create LOD models that do not require rendered textures, however this technique makes creating certain LOD models so much simpler that even I used it for some new models at the expense of not being able to replace textures programmatically.

"DynDOLOD Guide - For Wrye Bash users"

 

I am hopeless at video tutorials, so its going to be words and pictures in the style of my Pictorial Guide

 

Will give you a link when its just about done so you can give it the once over for any suggestions to improve it, your description was good enough to get me most of the way, but obviously Gamer Poets video is MO centric so then it needs a few adjustments specifically for Wrye Bash users - I feel it needs an extra guide with a bit of step-by-step BAIN creation, and an overall "routine" method of rebuilding the Output into a BAIN.

 

Goal = Keeping it accurate, but as brief and simple as possible

Thanks for the reply. I did read all the documentation to see if I could find an answer, but there's a lot of info in there and I will fully admit that I was a bit overwhelmed. Thanks so much for your response though, much appreciated and I completely understand why that's just not doable.

Hello,

 

so I've been using DynDOLOD 1.46 for a couple of weeks and so far so good. I don't know if it's a mod conflict or not, but recently I've been geting "error can't read tamriel" and "error cannot find master data in tamriel" or something like that.

 

I've checked my data tree in MO and nothing is conflicting with the json files in SKSE/plugins/StorageUtilData. I've tried deleting tes5edit edit script files and replacing with the stock files from the nexus download, and rerunning dyndolod worlds script a couple of times, in which there are no errors applying the script (of course the json files are successfully generated too and I've made a mod from the output files and activated them).

 

I've also made sure that DynDOLOD, DynDOLOD textures output, and DynDOLOD worlds output are the last 3 in my left pane (in that order) so it overwrites anything conflicting with it.

 

Nope. Still error messages in game.

 

If anyone has a solution I'd be happy to buy them Half-life 3.

The message "DynDOLOD can not read data from *.json" either means the *.json file can not be accessed by the game, or the data format in the file is invalid.

 

"Error in unit 'functions' on line 1212 : Type mismatch." Use these papyrus scripts they add a MCM Information page that shows some numbers to verify files can be read and belong to each other.

 

You can copy and paste the content of a json file  into an online json viewer like https://jsonviewer.stack.hu/ to verify the data format is valid.

Well balls, my tamriel.json is missing. I mistook it for tamriel_objects. So is there a quick way to generate it or do i have to run the worlds script again?

 

By the way, I've ran the worlds script twice before posting my first post here and it still gives me the error. Is there a special option somewhere I have to check?

 

UPDATE:

I've restored my tamriel.json from a previously generated file and I got the message that it is successfully initialized. The only difference is that I also generated lods for Summerset Isles in that version, and not in my current version. Will this have any side effects?

 

Also, should I keep the scripts you linked me or should I just deactivate it if all goes well?

If DynDOLOD_[worldpspace].json is missing the only way to create a new one for this worldspace is to generate with a DynDOLOD.esp that doesn't have the worldspace, from scratch or manually deleting the worldspace from the esp first.

 

If it initialized all is good usually. Each worldspace has its own set of 2 files each. So having created LOD for Summerset has no affect on the LOD / files for Tamriel.

 

Keep the new scripts, they are from the upcoming next version of DynDOLOD.

Sorry if I keep asking stuff like a 5 year old, just one last quick question.

 

Regarding your first paragraph, how do i do that exactly? Simply choose cancel when prompted to update DynDOLOD.esp while running the worlds script? Replace my current esp with the stock one?

 

Thanks for keeping up with me btw (and almost everyone asking for help). 10/10 would give firstborn again
